Through the years, so many people have asked me HOW it was that I ended up playing with Santana. I took the opprtunity to tell the story at the Rock Hall of Fame.
Just wonderful ❤❤❤
This is great! Saw his performance with Santana and was blown away by it and so happy to have come across this. Never seen anything like that performance ✌️
What a beautiful dude. He always looked so happy whenever I saw him playing, full of heart and soul.
Do you think that during the infamous drum solo at ' Bethel ' Shrieve was clean as a whistle or had taken something to ' calm the nerves ' ? Either way it is Rock history somewhat unequalled to this day ....
Greatest live solo ever....IMO.
"...this is like a street gang, and their weapon is music." Great line, Michael! That iconic drum performance at Woodstock is etched in time! History! Being about the same age, I was very aware of when and what Woodstock was. Interestingly, I produced and voiced a 25th anniversary DVD collection of the Woodstock experience. What a thrill to enjoy your Santana performance, after all these years!
In 5 days it's 55 years ago we had a beautifull and excellent Woodstock, we have to remember and love ❤ it every day. Groeten ( greetings ) Jan
they were leaving the stage without their trophy like they care !
First came Ringo into my heart, and then came "The Summer of Love" and I was just 14 at that time. And during that summer you and your "music gang" came upto Woodstock and there I heard my new idol, who really really knew how to do it and that was you Michael Shrieve. You and the band took it to the next level 4 sure. Thank you
Great drummer and cool guy. Santana 4eva.
So glad I found this, ....the thread that has held Rock together. Thank you Michael....Thank you Santana!
Thank you so much for all the wonderful music!!!
Very deserving.
I think Michael Shrieve climax of drumming was in Santana 3rd album. Very melodic
Awefuckingsome
Sp4 Bruce W. Wright, born July 6, 1949, was captured by members of the North Vietnamese Army on September 1, 1970 while part of a six man reconnaissance team. The remains of Bruce’s mutilated body was discovered by members of the U. S. Army’s 11th Light Infantry Brigade on September 4, 1970.
A life long love of music began in 1970 when my uncle gave me his copy of Santana #1 (after Abraxas was released). I went on to learn keyboards (Hammond) and played in several rock bands.
🥁💯❤️
I love Michael Shrieve❤️
Now we know why Donald Trump sounds like he does today!😂 But seriously though love Micheal he is a g
Awesome drummer
It was the best segment of the movie, by far. Not everyday that a young 17 year old outshines Hendrix :D
Wow! Woodstock was a drum solo for the ages!!!!!
🤘You Rock Michael☮♥️
2:29 that was a jam I was on my way there never made it love Santana
Just as Carlos once said about enthusiasm, except it was all around them at Woodstock.Mike also brought it propelling the moment and the band. They'll probably never be another drummer or drumming moment that good.
I was too young to go to Woodstock but my vhs tape set up had enough clunk to say wow to what I were hearing.
That was wonderful speach. Love that cat.
Michael, your music skills are beyond impressive😁
I play his drum solo over and over then the band performing at Woodstock. I've been a fan since Woodstock. I was 18 years old as well. Then I went off to college and never grow tired of his performances nor Santana's! I am still one of your devoted fans.
this drummer made santana
Santana's Woodstock performance; Has there ever been a rock and roll debut greater than this one?
No never. Incredible
Come to think of it ?... BEST DRUM SOLO IN HISTORY! ☝👶🤜🪄🥁
Saw the band at the Fillmore, Michael was my exact age, late show and it changed a lot of our lives, most amazing experience ever- Stay well, Mr. Shrieve, and thank you Carlos and the entire band.
Heck, I need to put my footage from Bella Coola together and add a needle drop from the Stiletto LP.... And thank you again for obliging and playing that tune for me in Seattle a decade and a bit ago....!!!
What about the other white boy Rolie? He was there too, remember?
That Band in 69 woodstock Was a Superband..
I saw you in southern france in '76 was it? on stage with automatic man....then in a restaurant I saw you and I flipped. I shlda, asked u for your autograph, amazing!

Incredible DRUMMER !!!!!!!!!!!! AND what an amazing story !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOODSTOCK wow !!!
Michael Shrieve... THE BEST.
The absolute best!
Michael✌️❤️. Soul sacrifice at Woodstock was outa sight man👍
That was fun!
Dear Michael Shrieve, you are one talented dude. Your face says it all while playing Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock. Just brilliant!
"Listen, you want to join the band?" ..............Mike Shrieve: "Let me check my schedule."--LOL!
I thought Santana was a one trick poney but I was wrong. Over time, he kept it at a high level with creating hits all along the way one way or another. He's earned my respect.
I used to get him confused with Pep Perrine, the original Bob Segar System Drummer who I saw in 1968. They both were very young and had that same expression on their face when they played. They look a lot alike. Both were killer drummers. I think Pep Perrine was 16 if I remember right.
You showed up at Woodstock a young unknown musician just going there to do what you loved. You thrilled, excited entertained and inspired hundreds of thousands of people then and since in a "thunder of the gods" performance that will live on long past any of us I'm sure. I'm certain you had no idea you were about to write your name in the history books for giving one of the most epic drum performances ever recorded as Carlos watched the neck of his guitar turn into a snake 😂 good stuff👍
