Thandiswa Mazwai: (Official) Interview - Zabalaza 20th Anniversary
Thandiswa Mazwai talks about her debut album Zabalaza, 20 years later.
Thandiswa reflects on the 20-year journey of her album, recounting its creation, the inspiration and individuals who contributed to shaping the body of work. Amongst them are the legendary bassist Sipho Gumede whose serendipitous involvement played a significant role, as well as contributions from uhadi giant Madosini, Spikiri, Fana Zulu, Tshepo Tshola, and the anecdotes behind the creation of standout tracks like “Nizalwa Ngobani?” and the night she penned “Transkei Moon” in the Eastern Cape. Zabalaza, the song, is the protest anthem of our generation.
