I lived at Carolina Beach, NC during this storm. With 5 friends, I decided to stay and ride the storm out. Big mistake! At an elevated area of the island we didn't get washed away however we had no water, power, or plumbing for days! Trees were downed across roads so we hiked around on foot to see the damage. It was absolutely devastating! The only good thing about that day was the rare opportunity of experiencing the eye of a hurricane. I've never seen so many vibrant stars in my entire life!

I was born on wrightsville beach but was living in Dunn NC when Fran came through. The day after Fran we were at the summer sands cleaning up.

Great editing. We remember how on each street the piles of household "debris" grew each day, the National Guard walking by the house, the smell of bleach from washing out the downstairs, the check point at the bridge, the quiet isolation, the leaky roof, the dead flowerbeds, and the gratefullness that we still had our home. Thanks for posting these videos.
