Leslie Bogart is a dead-ringer for Bacall's mother, Natalie.

I have NEVER seen or heard any reference or rumour of Bogey being gay, Sandra. That's highly unlikely. What is most likely is that what LB said about their marriage was true, that they were madly in love, and that they had a very passionate relationship. She was a talented, beautiful women who never seemed to take herself too seriously and remained relatively unaffected considering the life she led. A good mother, apparently, as well as a loyal friend, and a person who fought for certain causes based on a fervent belief in the values she learned as a child growing up in America, regarding free speech and freedom of political involvement.

Bogart was supposed to be Gay. So I don`t know what the story really is. She talks about him as the Great Love but even if he performed with her he was the Father Figure. After one gets through that it`s fight your corner. Bacall seems unable to cope with men who followed because she was no longer the `Baby`...indulged, petted and catered for. She won`t discuss marriage to Jason and the long winded affair with Sinatra is also taboo.

Bacall was abused by Howard Hawks because she was a closet Jew and he knew it. So he`d say insulting things hoping to get a rise. Bacall was badly Jew-baited. Weird. Kids look a bit odd. Still Bacall likes to discount stuff...but it all counts. In that Person to Person she dragged out the toddlers...both were Micky Mouse pretty...it was all so American Pie...it takes its toll...and Bacall`s parents were kept outside by the pool...Murrow was almost afraid to mention and Bacall almost referred to them as the workmen....issue so identity, Jewishness, assimilation, makeovers...you can`t sweep it all under the carpet..leaves scars
