I love that you said you would invest the Million dollars if you could and didn't have to buy anything. If you do decide to get into rental properties down the road talk to people who have done it or have them currently. My husband and I started with our first property 16 years ago bought our first property. we talked to several people before hand and that was the best thing for us. we still have four houses (We had 6). We moved my parents into one to get them closer to us and My son and DIL moved into one a year ago so they could save for their first house. when a tenant moves out of one of the other houses our daughter wants to move into one as well. The bonus is you know how the landlords are with the upkeep of the property because you are the landlord. Good for you for thinking ahead for the future. Our goal is to retire in two years and use our rentals to be a supplement with our other retirement. We never did find our winter home however now that the market is coming down again I am looking again. No hurry though.
