Banjo is truly one of the most difficult instruments to play (you have to pick with all 5 fingers) Played guitar for 40 years. That, mandolin + violin were the hardest to learn
SNL was so damn good then
See the passion in his face
This is not Amateur Hour. Steve Martin is widely regarded as a world-class banjo picker.
I remember Rascal Flats doing a song called Banjo and Steve Martin made a surprise appearance on the show! He was amazing😮
Wow. He's really good.
I love the banjo! Wish I could play one!
Howard Caine who played Major Hochstetter in Hogans Hero's also played the banjo.
what song is he playing?
He looks so serious when he plays the Banjo, great instrument!
banjo face
Banjo music never fails to make me smile
He's a genius.
Could have been Harrison fords cousin or brother lol genius lol
He’s not even showing off. This is a clawhammer style. You should hear him really pick. Virtuoso, really. Signed; old picker.
Funny guy... "you tink banjo is JOHK?!?"
Why am I just finding out about this?
"Let's play the banjo!...On second thought, I'll play the banjo" Why is this so funny
Thank you Steve for all the great memories and music 🎶🎶🙏🇺🇸
oy!
Real country music,lol
The real talent here is his ability to play through that entire crowd clapping off beat
The wild wood weed
Actual quote from Steve Martin. " I didn't care if I got rich, as long as I got to play my banjo
He seriously wanted to be known for something other than comedy. I love it.
I noticed the amount of people watching drops off after the end of the instrumental. You guys should keep watching... I have heard Grandmother's Song before, but it had lines in it I have not heard.
4:00 Steve is fantastic, but THE CROWD is also! " .. and suck aids!" (At this moment people were much more openminded in many ways, especially in humour)
The banjo is the offspring of a sitar mating with a mandolin.
Isn't this just amazing!
Tremendous!
Jeff Daniels played a song on guitar for Kelly Clarkson surprising everyone especially her. A commenter mentioned Steve Martin playing the banjo bringing me here instagram.com/p/C6ow_JkuPJG/c/18028468751017776/
Almost as fantastic an instrument as the bagpipes 🤓 Huge react . That laddie is a master of his craft …☀️🤗👍
❤ .
Crazy wild guy
That was amazing
HE SAYS, HOLD ON ...? I FOR GOT THE WORDS....?!!!!!!-
The US equivalent of Billy Connolly … give this laddie legend status ….
Now just Imagine if he was playing with Flatt and Scruggs
He played several times with Earl Scruggs.
Words to live by....
The opening medley seems to start with Loch Lomond, and the third tune he segues into is Simple Gifts, but I can't make out the second tune, which he comes back to at the end. The melody is so familiar but I can't dredge it up.
This is the “Wild and Crazy Guy!!!”
I asked Alexa who was the best banjo player Steve Martin or George Siegel he was a very good banjo player also and she said Steve Martin well that's a good Plus for him I wish I could have seen George Siegel I don't know if my computer is spelling right. The actor not the karate Segal I think this one is spelled s e g e l George played for years on the weekends at the nightclub in Hollywood I wish I would have gone can't remember the name of nightclub.
Im not sure Ive ever known Steve Martin could play the banjo! Im really impressed!
Of course Harpo was talented Just great comedy
"Ring, ring the banjo!". Stephen Foster
I love the first part of this. I watch at least once a day. Love watching the fingering! Amazing!
And he wrote for The Smothers Brothers Show.
While I was working on the road, I was listening to a late night radio called "Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap." Randy recalled a time while they were on tour, they had a comedian who would go on stage before the performance and tell jokes. Randy went on to say that this guy would sit quietly behind stage before hand and practice the banjo..... "I wonder if Steve Martin remembers us?"
Steve Martin, keeping it classy since the ‘70’s.
He was raised a poor black child
Navin!!!
