Passages Sulu: Kalis
The latest episode of Passages Sulu features the kalis.
The kalis is part of the moro identity. It was an important measure of a man’s stature and ascendancy. Carrying a kalis was regarded with distinction.
The kalis is one of the most ruthless weapons ever developed. The manufacture of bladed weapons became necessary as the Tausug needed to arm and defend themselves against Spanish hostility and incursions. It became the embodiment of Muslim resistance and onslaught. To defend the faith and the sultanate.

I am a seaman working on cargo vessels. I have sailed by these islands for many times en route China-Australia. During our high risk piracy area passage, this place is considered the most dangerous area. People fucking try to board the vessel and rob the personnel. Do not even think about going there.
