    Excellent work...! I have a 2012 crew cab with surface rust and scaly corrosion on the rockers, the road side of the floorpan and other parts of the bottom, but it's not soft (hit the rockers and underside with a ballpeen hammer in a number of places and nothing flakes off) would you risk sandblasting or laser cleaning...? I only ask because I don't use the truck for work anymore and it will probably get less than 5,000 miles annually from here on out, but I want to keep it for personal use for the long run.

      @@FiveBoroNative you could do that it doesn’t sound too bad as long as nothing falls off when you hit it you should be good, just hit it lightly to see then keep going if it’s good, wire wheel on a die grinder works good but slow and can’t get everywhere

    Dumb question. Its my first tractor. So, sorry: When you drain the transmission under the shift lever (bottom) and the hydraulic reservoir under the top cover of the hydraulics (bottom), does that drain the differential? Is there another plug for the differential? Do I fill the differential with different fluid and from a different place than the transmission? Thank you!

    I don’t know if anyone has already commented on this but check out your shifter boot because if it is even slightly cracked or over stretched you will be getting rain water in the oil and please forgive me if you already know this. But I had so much condensation in my 8N when it was really cold maybe about-23 degrees Celsius and I was going to clean some snow and after about 10 minutes my 3 PTH wouldn’t lift and more a I figure I had a major problem but when I pulled my dipstick out of the hydraulic pump it was like a popsicle so I heated it up with a Tiger torch got it moving again but when I parked it I took the plug out drained what I could and then I took the inspection plate with the dipstick off and used a screw driver and cleaned as much as I could around and valve and never had a problem again Just thought I would share it with you keep that old iron running my friend 😀🇨🇦

    Adjust your fuel and air screws on the carb. Close each one and turn it open 1-1/2 - 2 turns if that doesn't work a lot of times the fuel line was to close to the engine and it would heat the fuel line and evaporate some of the fuel as it passes through the fuel line, make sure fuel line is sloping down hill from the tank to the carb cause if it's flat or slightly uphill after the fuel bowl at the tank or going uphill into the carb it would cause issues.. some tractors when they got down to 1/4 tank or less it wouldn't send a lot of fuel, it wouldn't be a good consistent flow so check your fuel flow..

    get a new carb, only 30 dollars , also you can get a valve to fit right at the carb intake it will helps from the leaking ,, it is usually 1/8 x 27 or NPT , they will leak all the fuel in the line even sometimes when the valve with the fuel bowl is shut off ,,,, you can bend the float in the carb ever so slightly with it leaking bend it down some to make it shut off lower so its doesn't have too much gas in it , most carbs you set the upside down to where it looks even , it looks like you still have the 6 volt system in it so make sure you do not have a 12 coil with resister in ,,, start the carb with 2 1/2 out on the gas mixture , you can get a plug checker or spark checker its just a light that flashes you put it to the plug and to the wire , I think you can buy that at Harbor freight for 5 dollars or so, if the tractor has set for a long time you could have a weak exhaust valve , if you can watch the valves with a cover off it will be vary fast to see it ,,, I work on so much old junk ,,,, you also might want to see if you have a leak on your manifold , exhaust and intake ,,, good luck

      Thank you, I’ve seen those carbs and heard good and bad about them. I’ve never had a issue with 6 volt systems with anything I’ve worked on so far. It has great spark nee manifold gaskets and I had a new valve train installed by a machine shop and all the valve seats cleaned recently when I rebuilt the engine. But I thought he set them but he never did, so I relapped all the valves and set them. I had it running great if the carburetor was completely dry then turn the fuel on. But My friend and I have since this video torn into the carburetor and looked inside where the seat goes for the needle and we noticed some rust where the seat threads into and I ran a tap through it to clean it and I believe fuel was leaking around the seat. Won’t know until I get the radiator back from the shop but hopefully that was it and I can make a update video. Thank you for the comment

    If it idles but will not rev up correctly, I would be looking at the timing and or mechanical advance. I have the later 8n's so not familiar with the front mount dist. If the float is set to the 1/4" setting and still is leaking fuel, then I would make sure the seat has the washer and is tight. pretty simple devices, not much to go wrong. It is always a good idea to run a wire thru all of the jets and fuel passages in a carb at overhaul. Will it excell if you move the throttle level up slowly?

    Ok up draft carb ... I have an up draft carb on my 1944 Adams Motor Grader Model No.311, the overflow/draft tube, vents the fuel bowl so the fuel can go up and down and not vapor lock. The International carb also has what I call a slobber jet port right next to the overflow/draft tube vent and they have the same size and thread types. Before I had gotten the grader someone had switch the two lines. Look for something like that. You watch, what ever it is, it will be simple. where is the fuel pouring out of, out of the throat of the carb or a vent or tube on the side ? That will be your first clue. If it is still overflowing pull the fuel bowl and operate the floats by hand. push up on the floats ... dose the fuel stop? If the fuel dose stop the floats are full of fuel if they are brass or flooded if made of composite. The float could also be out of adjustment and causing the overflowing problem. If you push the float up and it DOESN'T stop flowing. Why? Is it coming from the valve and seat ? If it is coming from the valve and seat area the seat could be cross-threaded, blocked or bad. More investigation is needed. If the float valve closes and fuel still flows from the carb there could be a crack in the housing. Or maybe, maybe, maybe the jets are in the wrong place. Here is a forum where these guys did/do this stuff for a living. They have most likely have been there beforehand. www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-8N-Tractor-Parts/

  • @Fatamus
    @Fatamus Рік тому

    First you need to stop the carb from overflowing.. It is flooding the engine too. running way to rich. Once you get the overflowing issue fixed the other things, I'm sure will be easy to check. Firing order correct? .... Check again The fly-weights and advance plate free? .... check coil? A bad coil is intermittent at first.... check condenser... Check for cracking wire insulation and bad connections between condenser and points, points and coil, resistor (if applicable), to ignition switch. Check again. Carb sucking air? Loosing vacuum ? fuel pump/line? Manifold? Spray carb spray at manifold not at carb opening ... If engine revs you have a leak. overflowing: Needle and seat aren't working correctly, fuel is bypassing, once I had part of an old needle stuck in the new seat. Clean fuel line again. float needs adjusting or replaced, float could be flooded, small hole or corrosion allowing fuel to bypass needle and seat. adjust low/high jets wont run at at idle without choke assistance... low speed jet or passage plugged rough idle and dies when throttling up: high speed jet or passage plugged, out of adjustment (1.5 turns out) fuel pressure to carb too high Good luck

    • @whathobogrohknows
      @whathobogrohknows Рік тому

      Tested the coil and condenser and made sure those all work good, looked inside the distributor and made sure all the weights were free and they were lubed, new rebuild kit on the carb and gaskets in the manifold, new wires and been through the carb a few times and checked the float and needle and seat. And set it all, set all the adjustments to what it says and the low speed works and the high sped sounds like it’s doing something, I’ve blown air and car spray through everything. And have had it in carburetor cleaner.

    Try leaving the gas cap loose. Does it even have a fuel pump? Pressure too high for the float to shut off the gas? Is the float adjusted to spec? Maybe fuel level in bowl is set too low from trying to get the gas not to overfill the bowl. What voltage are you running the ignition on? Still 6 volt coil? What battery and charging? Ignition can be weak enough that when the throttle opens up, it’ll cut out. Not sure if you can put a Pertronics conversion on a 6 volt system but you could convert to 12 volt alternator and battery

    • @whathobogrohknows
