Sunset flight of a Dynam Hawksky RC airplane over Monterey County, CA. Flight video taken on a picture perfect day at twilight. HawkSky sunrise flight over central California

A sunrise flight with fog over central California in June 2012. The RC plane is a modified Dynam Hawksky. The flight is assisted by the UAV Dev Board (UDB4) autopilot running MatrixPilot v3.2.1 software. Note that this video was post-processed with youtube's software to reduce shakiness. This causes some distortion and artifacts at times.

      I changed the belts on my ELMO GP 8mm projector, but the forward and reverse speeds are extremely slow. What could be causing this?

      vjwoody There should be a metal plate on the back of the unit with bulb info. Usually the bulb designation is 3 letters. I just did a Google search for my old Elmo unit and found several places to get the bulbs including B&H in New York

      It was pulling with 40 pounds of force before being triggered to launch. There were two bungees on each side pulling at 10 pounds each.

    Great flight, beautiful imaging: how exactly did you mount the keychain cam on the Hawksky? Do you have any detailed pictures of it? Would like to mount it similarly on my own Hawksky. Cheers!

    Yes, the plane has a small keychain video camera (808 #11) attached to the wing. It records video in HD quality.

    Thanks very much for the good wishes! The little bird is very healthy now and has been returned to my backyard, where both of her parents are watching her, feeding her, and taking good care of her. We hope to see all three of them flying around together very soon. BTW, this is a little Thrush born recently in central California.

    In addition to the autopilot, the plane has an GPS unit and a magnetometer connected to the autopilot. More info about the autopilot board, software, GPS, and magnetometer can be found by searching for 'UAV Dev Board' and 'gentlenav' Configuring the autopilot is not difficult and the online community is always available and happy to help.

    @booterspaw My HawkSky has an onboard autopilot that makes the plane much more controllable in all kinds of conditions. In fact, it also has a return to launch site feature that I've used several times to fly the plane back home automatically.     I tried getting a video just like this one about two months ago. Ended up losing my HawkSky for about a week. Conditions were great in my backyard, but up there, man the wind was HOWLING. It went up the way about a half mile and landed in a guys wooded field. I'm just glad it didn't anybody. Great video. I hope I can get the nerve to try it again sometime.
