    Would those strokes be powerful enough to sound on a regular kick drum without triggers?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia 8 годин тому

      They can be. It all depends on the circumstances you're in. If you're pedal settings and kick drum size / tuning are set to deliver a high acoustic sound and you're playing in a small venue with a few people in it you could get a decent volume. Now, if it's a bigger / larger venue or stage you will need to amplify / enhance the acoustic sound with at least one kick mic. If you're playing fast double bass say 250 and above, no matter how hard you try to hit the bass drum, the acoustic / mic sound will only pic a much lower volume due to the dynamics on that speed. This is where triggers come into play to track every stroke so it can be heard through your IEM's and the audience. Here's a what it can sound like without triggers on a 12 inch mesh head kick drum in a small room. ua-cam.com/video/Ijsa4_2N9Z4/v-deo.htmlsi=ysO1HPbwjN4mVBSh

    Awesome...that bass drum looks great. I have a more mid grade alesis crimson drum with a 3 layer mesh head. I do find higher end bass drums to have better absorption for more dynamic range... however, the crimson has a lot of bounce.

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia День тому

      Thanks man! Nice. It really comes down to how you tune them. Not taking away wood or material quality but, the bounce can vary between an acoustic and a mesh head. It's personal preference really.

    I have this shitty problem, that i lift my right big toe. I lead with my left foot when 16th notes. I play 1 foot parts with my right foot. Any advice with this right foot big toe thing? Burns Tibialis quite fast. When iam super warmed up, this may go away, but it always take a time. Nice work by the way. Like your channel. 🖤

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia 2 дні тому

      Thank you for the words man! I appreciate it. As per your description, the burn in your Tibialis comes from the tension / stiff motion created when lifting your right big toe due that these muscles / nerves / tendons are connected (mostly happens when you haven't warmed up well). It also happens when you use the ball of your foot more than your toes (this is also normal). The solution to this is to just relax ( I know it's not easy) but, literally. Just release the tension from your whole leg and try to push more with the ball of your foot and toes combined and do not twitch / squeeze / make a static movement when playing. Don't focus on speed, just make sure that burn / pain goes away. It might also take some time training your muscles to get used to the natural motion. You can also do some warm up exercises to get the blood flowing ( squats / stretches ) before your practice session.

    when your heel is up, what is keeping it above the ground? I'm having a hard time keeping my heel up without using a static contraction from my shin to keep it there. I assume it's your calf being slightly contracted to keep your heel up before starting?

      @@garryranara6040 It's not triggered. Triggers normally have more high pitch treble sounds than lower end bass definition (unless you tune the sounds in your trigger module that way). You're listening to the acoustic sound of felt beaters hit against a nylon patch on a kick drum mesh head.

    When I do this I feel unstable and lacking power if I have my feet where yours are, I tend to put the balls of my feet just above the hinge of the footboards. Does your foot positioning come with time? Is it something I should be striving for?

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia 9 днів тому

      It comes with time when you find the sweet spot on your pedal. I normally play either in the middle or top of the footboard right behind the direct drive link. Anything from 100 to 210 BPM the balls of my feet stay in the middle. If it's 220 and up I slide my foot forward a bit to feel less weight when pushing for higher tempos.

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia 13 днів тому

      You're welcome! The spring tension can be set for your body weight by playing on three settings, loose, medium or max tension. If your body reacts better with any, stick to that setting for at least 2 weeks to get used to that tension. As far as "Pedal height" I assume you're referring to the footboard height? If so. You can set the height to the middle position. Not too high not too low and see how it works for you.

Here are two videos I made with some tips and recommendations to eliminate the twitching motion (which does not allow your ankle to move freely due to the tension you produce on your whole leg). I already commented on how great this video is, but something else came to mind: you should make another video with the second step of this "first stroke" approach. What I mean by that is any time the feet don't start the pattern at the same time. This happens a lot, any broken foot pattern will result in this. For instance if you remove one left foot (ex. R_RL RLRL RLRL RLRL). The right foot is already playing its second stroke while the left foot is only getting its first, resulting in the drummer having to "offset" the way he thinks about his feet. The more broken the pattern gets, the more complex this becomes (hello Fear Factory).

    • @GiancarloRaveloGarcia
      @GiancarloRaveloGarcia 17 днів тому

      You're welcome man! If the EQ is good and the sound engineer sets the correct parameters, you're able to get a decent sound our of the Kick drum mic up to certain tempos ( 150-160 and maybe 170 tops) However, the down side is that it if the venue / stage is big with a huge crowd it wouldn't work as much or when playing faster tempos. If you have the option to throw a trigger this will amplify the sound to play double bass patterns (from 180 to 200 BPM and above) louder and will cut through much more in a live setting.
