Clay is a grounding medium: humble, of the earth - and working in clay grounds the individual and the potting community through the making process. Out of something formless and basic an object of use and beauty can be formed through careful hands and sound intent. Throwing in clay links the maker to an ancient human history of ceramic creation. The skill-set required - patience, diligence, calm, repetition, humility - constitutes a therapeutic way, almost contemplative in effect upon the practitioner.
