22nd October 1983, i was 11, 7th week into my 1st year in Highschool, already familiar with Rallycross/Rally and F1 and Barry Sheene.

Car 18 Russ Cooper and Malcolm Jones. First time out in the new Gordons Sunbeam with 2 litre Alfa twin cam power, so a shakedown run for us. Withdrew after problems with rear suspension bushes. Thanks for posting this.

Asquith's airfield win OPENING a 10 second lead on the first two stages Chris Asquith and Geoff Hague went on to win the Slaithwaite MC's Vetbed Opposite Lock Stages Rally at RAF Lindholme, near Doncaster, recently by 32 seconds form the similar two-litre Escort of D. Quirk / N. Hammerton. The eight stage event amounted to 45 miles of action for 75 crews and Mick Moore / Mike Elliott were expected to do well but their TR7V8 engine let go after two stages. I think this was the event when I should have co-driven for Kevin Stodd in his 1300 BDA Escort, but the car wasn't ready. I even booked us out of MC1 without the car! Start venue was the Post House Hotel on Narborough Road Leicester. Organised by Soar Valley Motor Club.
