How to install 3D Deer Fencing
3D fencing by Premier 1 is an affordable option for protecting against deer and other garden gremlins who love the fruits of your labor. This video will show how we protected our garden and orchard with 3D fencing. We used Premier 1 Fencing and a SolarStop80 Energizer but the steps I show you apply to any other electric fence products.

    So is the 2x6 block just 5:55 mounted to the plywood from the same screws used for the padeye? Or did you screw in the mount first before screwing in the padeye?

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm Місяць тому

      Hi thanks for watching the video. You can do it either way. I just used the same screws that i used with the pad eye. That being said the screws should go through the plywood and into the stud behind. Just into the plywood wouldn't be strong enough.

      The vinyl or the wood? The vinyl is 8.5x7.5 . The lowes item number is 790801. Im pretty sure the wood block would have been a treated 2x8 cut to fit the inside of the plastic block. Hope this helps.

    First time homeowner here with a town home that's 3 stories in the rear--this was super helpful, thank you! You mentioned something about silicone--where does that come into play? Where do you place it and why? As for the wooden block--is it held in place by that large mounting screw, or did you affix it with glue first? Thanks for the help!

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm 5 місяців тому

      Thank you for watching and glad it was helpful. Sorry this took me a bit to respond. The silicone goes around the edge of the pad eye if you feel you need it. I didnt realize i forgot about that until after i posted the video. As for the wooden block. Yes the long screws hold it in place. In my opinion all four screws should be long enough to go through the block of wood and deep into the stud.

    Why would you put guinea pig poop and bedding all over that bare dirt? All you're doing is fertilizing the dirt which will maximize the weed growth you would be better off putting the plastic bags down and then the guinea pig bedding on top of the plastic bags for weed control

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm 9 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching. I want to keep the dirt fertile for the plants. Just about any natural mulch will fertilize as it breaks down. My plan is to keep topping it off each year with pine straw as it breaks down. Granted the litter is not as good as plastic but it will do a much better job than nothing or plain pine straw. Ill also add more guinea pig litter. Thanks for the comment too. I appreciate the feedback

      You shouldn't use plastic (i've never heard of using plastic seems weird) or weed barrier cloth in your garden/flower beds. Mulch and compost is the way to go, so you continue to build good soil

      Glad it helped.No I used 4 inch stainless steel star or torx head screws. Screws are better in my opinion here because the force is wanting to pull them out and down. Be sure to get a heavy duty screw. One that will just fit in the hole on the pad eye. They gave me about 2 1/2 inches of screw in the stud behind the 2x6.

    Incorrect. Supermarket eggs rarely contain double yolks due to the large farms' advanced screening systems. If you have hens to make your own eggs, there will be different sized eggs and some eggs with even triple yolks. Double yolk is not a rarity.

    I just realized I misspoke in the video and said the cleaner was mostly bleach. While it is sodium-hypochlorite, it is not what most people would consider household bleach. Bleach is harmful to plants and will build up in the soil where as according to the manufacturer 30 seconds cleaner is formulated not to.

  • @michellegrooms1607
    @michellegrooms1607 Рік тому

    Maybe you should have just use some bleach and water maybe it will be the same thing that you bought but probably cheaper.

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm Рік тому

      Thanks for watching and for the comment. To be honest I never considered bleach and that's because I'm partial to using things that are designed for a specific purpose. My main concern was protecting the plans and soil around my house and I had seen that 30 seconds cleaner was safe for that. After reading your question I did a little more checking to see if bleach would be a better cheaper option next time. I found out that most bleach will kill plants and build up in the soil. Definitely something I don't want. Thanks again. Oh and I also realized I misspoke in the video and said it was mostly bleach. I probably shouldn't have said that as its not normal household bleach but rather a special plant safe formulation. I'll be adding a note about that.

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm Рік тому

      Hi Sal. Those are both very good questions. I think most gardeners, including myself, have had to deal with the first one at least once if not more than once. There are a number of things and tips that could help you with that. While they are not very complicated they do take a bit to walk through. As such would you be ok if I answered it in my next video? I'm sure many others would be helped as well. I would also like to you credit as the one who asked the question. First name only of course. If all goes as planned, I should have it out by next weekend. As for your second question, I have a video planned for that too but feel I can also respond here. The best thing to do with tomatoes is to build an actual trellis frame of some sort for them. I usually attach a sturdy wood trellis to my raised beds and run string to the top. The tomatoes are attached to the string with special clips. I'll probably have that video out in the next month or so. Thanks for watching the video and for your questions. Please let me know if I can do anything else to help.

    Thank you for correcting yourself regarding Harbor Freight and fencing. I've been searching everywhere for cheaper wire hardware cloth to retro-fit predator -proof my chain-link panel chicken pen. When I heard you bought your fencing panels at Harbor Freight, I immediately decided to take a trip over there to look at their fencing. Ha Ha... Thanks for saving me the trip! Lots of ideas in your video!

    Appreciate this video. Trying to find the cheapest way to build a run. What do you do for deep wintertime?

      We are on the south east coast so we don't have to do much at all. . Rarely gets below freezing here for very long. The rare times it did the chickens were fine.

    Nice video.. It looks like you doubled the chicken wire over the whole cage?

      Yes i did. Covered all exposed cattle panel with it and used electric fence wire to connect it. However if i had to do it again i would use hardware cloth as so many mentioned.

      @@TheBakerFarm that’s what I did. The 1/2”hardware cloth… but trust stuff is horrible to work with… you get all kinds of cuts and scrapes and punctures from the exposed ends
