Data can be recovered even if heads fail ( not 100% sure) . IMO, data cannot be recovered only when the platters get physical damage. Remaining things like headers , PCB & other mechanical parts can be swapped from other healthy HDDs and then data can be recovered. But all these would be a long shot and require highly pro job. Also the cost plays a major role. Too hard to believe, yes loosing your past track/memories is a big pain.

Now you might be thinking that cloud storage like google drive is the way to go..but..they are just service, they may/can go down any time...maybe because of virus, maybe because of company problem, etc..the bottom line is that you don't own the data in the cloud!! so what to do?? golden rule -> 3-2-1 backup rule....but I would recommend you to buy a blueray drive, buy blue ray disk of 2 different brands, burn 2 copies of data to both brands..keep them at different places, protected from heat, light and humidity....every year (maybe on birthday) surface scan all disks and replace if anyone shows bad sectors......of course preserving important data is tedious!!

Product didn´t work for me and I got dragged into auto-renewal of subscription I didn´t agree to! After my SDD had formatted itself, I was so desperate I bought the recovery software for 109 Euro Euros. Ran the program, even the deep scan, and out of 41.000 files it recovered around 60 files that I didn´t need and that it also did very poorly. I then invested in a second software (disk drill) which recovered the whole amount, even though not organized in folders and i had to resort 40k files... But- don´t buy this it´s a waste of time and money.
