Swimming Basics - Head vs body position... Stop your legs from sinking with this 1 simple tip!
This video was a question from a viewer that we decided to make into a video. The question was: "How do I get my legs to stop sinking?" - in this video, Adam demonstrates just how much of an effect your head position can have on your body position.
Even the slightest head raise can cause your legs to sink. This will increase drag on your body through the water and affect your ability to float across the top.
We hope this video is informative and helps you on your swimming journey. Thank you very much for watching! 🩵

    I’ve tried for about a month, twice a week I practice one hour. Had been difficult because I had fear, so I guess I must practice more. Is usual the water get in to the mouth ?

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 9 годин тому

      Yeah more practice and trust the process, blow air out of your mouth so no water goes in. You should aim to breath all of your air out before your face exits the water so you can just breath in when you lift your head out of the water. Let me know how you get on 👍👍

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 5 днів тому

      Hey, if I’m understanding correctly you are breathing every two strokes to your right? Which is absolutely fine, that’s how I teach my more advanced swimmers as it mimics the natural breathing rhythm of your body during exercise. I prefer to swim that way too. However, as always it’s about finding what works for you and your end goal 👍

      Ahh I see. I’d aim to see if you can try to stretch it to two strokes per breath. So right arm(breathe), left arm, right arm(breathe). Blowing out your air underwater. If you need some tips or exercises to practice this let me know 👍

    how do we stand in the pool while doing backstroke practise ?

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 8 днів тому

      If you need to practice while standing, it won't be possible in deep water so get comfortable in the shallow end of a pool if you can touch your feet on the floor. If you can't do that, the rest your head against the wall or bar to practice floating before trying away from the side. I know it is difficult to practice this one by yourself, but remember - I am a heavy person and that small kickboard can keep me afloat. Breaking that mental barrier can be tricky, but with persistence you will get there. Let me know if you need any more help!

    Very impressive n convincing esp leg, (narrow kicks)in,out,together. But need to glide. I agreed with u, arms need to stretch to the shoulder lengths as feel muscles good after desk top job. I was being taught by many coaches that: easy to remember: like a ❤ shape, after circles,(separate water)both hand(palsm) go back to the chest n quick "cut" the water n hands straight. I will try out the big straight arms shoulder for breaststroke. I ❤yr techniques. God bless u.

    I am learning to swim and I can do breaststroke, improving my freestyle technique but can do it ! However backstroke is beating me to the core. I can not get it to even start. I sink in just two strokes or get water all over the face and in my nose . Whenever I am on my back , I just do bird chick soldier stroke and get to the other end easily but never backstroke. Help me !

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 13 днів тому

      The kickboard is your best friend. If you are sinking then we will have to look at your body position. Try pushing and gliding on your back from a wall with the float. Just kicking, no arms to start. Once you are comfortable with this you can begin your arms. The next step would be to repeat those steps but without the float. If you aren’t comfortable pushing off straight away, stationary floating can help you too. Let me know how you get on 👍

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 17 днів тому

      In the beginning, if you use the words 'in, out & together to time the kick and the arms', you will find that gets you close. Then, as you progress and start looking for speed and efficiency, the kick comes slightly after the pull initiates. We will be doing an intermediate series on this in the future. Let me know how you get on 👍

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK 21 день тому

      Work on the body position. Practice floating on your back with a kick board and then begin to kick your legs. Slowly progress to the arm with the kick board and then you can change to alternating arms still with the float. When you feel stable enough, try kicking on your back to get floating. Once comfortable introduce a single arm. Then onto both. Let me know how you get on 👍

    • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK Місяць тому

      Hi Sharon, four is too long yes. Consider this, you wouldn’t run and hold your breath so why swim and hold your breath. Make sure you are blowing your air out underwater to control your breathing and you’ll find yourself a lot more relaxed and ready to take your breath in when you lift your head. 2 or 3 strokes per breath with front crawl. I prefer 2 when I’m really exercising but 3 is fine too (and some people prefer it). Try it out and see which is best for you, let me know how it goes 😁

      Depends on how many area you do per breath. As I mentioned, I teach beginners to breathe every 3 arms. When you transition to a pool workout, breathing every two arms will speed you up and be more efficient (and you will breath to one side only). 3 is good, therefore you’ll breath to both sides. • @AaquaticsUK
      @AaquaticsUK Місяць тому

      Sure, that is the trickiest part. I use those words to time the actions and get you moving. But when you drill down into the stroke you find that the legs snap and you use that snap the propel you forward as the arms pull to lift you out. So in more advanced technique the legs go before the arms by a very small amount. I will do a video for you soon to explain the exact timing - but if you need any exercises or help, get in touch with us by email and I can help you out!
