Sawantwadi, a lake city situated at the foot hills of western ghats in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra is also well known for it's wooden Craft. The wooden toys and wooden fruit shapes are painted with lacquer paints which are durable for decades. The artists are settled nearby for more than a century.

'Sawantwadi' in Sindhudurg District of Maharashtra, is situated at the foothills of Western Ghats, a world heritage site. A beautiful lake city with a dense forest around. Sawantwadi is famous for it's Wooden Toys, Woodwork Painting and Ganjifa art.

Dashavtar, a 400 years old Traditional Art-form is another unique feature of Sindhudurg district, in Maharashtra state of India.. The artist perform and present the stories from Puranas. They carry there own drapery. There is no makeup artist. Artists have to do the makeup on there own. 'Dashavtar' is an inherent part of the Yatras and Jatras organized in Sindhudurg.

Sindhudurg is rich in Biodiversity. Amboli is a gate for Northern Western ghat and Southern western ghat. You can find different endemic species here. Malabar Gliding Frog, Malabar Pit Viper, Shrilankan Frog mouth, more than 210 different species of Butterflies... these are few highlights.
