      TBH that is exactly the same reason I have held on to it, and the heater being in the filter. I have another vid update with another issue i had recently where i had a massive leak and it was the quick release for the hose adaptor, the whole part snapped off from the o ring cut out, it was very stiff to open and close but as you can see in that vid, it is super thin the plastic in that area so not sure if i just always had a hair line crack in it which was leaking the air in but after replacing that adaptor and the primer section as it kept disconnecting from the pre filter housing making it a pain to remove it as it all fell apart when removing it, not sure which one of the two was causing it but since replacing both I no longer have the issue with air purging, and the flow is more powerful. Luckily I had both spares as I always like to keep spares just in case, I did contact oase about it and they have sent me a new primer section under warranty but still waiting for the hose quick release to arrive, admittedly i had to do it through my local dealer so not sure which one of the two is taking so long to get it sent out

      I have had 8 or so tanks in the last 20 years, I have had a fluval 303, 404, 305, a couple of 405's, an FX6, a couple of ehiem filters and a cheap boyu filter, all of which have been external cannister filters and I have never had this issue with any of them, and its not just me, their are loads of forums which have been created because of this issue with the 850 biomaster, I'm pretty sure we all haven't got it wrong. I have done everything that others have tried, shortening the pipes as much as possible, drilling extra holes in the prefilter stem which to be honest I think is the hole problem with the 850, the prefilter design wasn't made with this filter in mind, the 850 came out 2 years after the range was released, the prefilter is exactly the same size as the one in the 600 but the 850 pulls an extra 300Litres per hour, the prefilter steps up in size throughout the whole range but the 850 just has an extra media basket thrown in it and a more powerful pump. When I switch the filter off the creaking sound coming from the vacuum pressure being released is the most I have ever heard on any filter, which further leads me to believe that the intake cannot keep up with the flow rate of the filter when set to full power, if I turn the return valve down to reduce the flow rate then the issue pretty much goes away, but I didn't buy an 850 to run it as slow as a 600, so again poor design.

      @@MikeZak101 Oh man I am sorry to hear all this. I had fluvial's for the last 15 years and those guys are powerhouses. They run never a problem, I only bought Oase 600 just for the pre filter and easy of cleaning the same. I now use two of Oase 600 and luckily they don't have the problem. But I red all the complains about Oase filters so for that reason I still keep my Fluval 407 on the side and will not sell them. You must have gotten the bad unit man. The only time I had air issues with mine was when I had my Lilly pipes for the out flow above the water to where the outflow would make bubbles from the water hitting the surface and my intake skimmer would suck those bubbles in introducing bubbles into the system but once I fully submerged the outflow pipe I was golden

    • @MikeZak101
      @MikeZak101 11 місяців тому

      Hi, I'm just using all the stock fitting for it, the return is the stock spray bar which is below the water line so no air bubbles at all, I don't use co2 either so no bubbles in the system whatsoever. I've tried greasing every seal, the motorhead gasket, pre filter gasket, heater o ring with no joy. I contacted oase about the issue and they said my pipes had to much excess and recommended i shorten them even though there advertisement for there aquariums shows a massive loop on it so you can slide the filter out of the cabinet without disconnecting the pipes, so I shortened them and still does exactly the same thing. When purging the air out you can hear the filter creaking as if under a lot of pressure so I'm assuming the 850 has an issue with possibly the prefilter stage which when doing more research on is exactly the same size unit as in the 600 model even though the 850 has a more powerful pump by 300L per hour (5L per minute extra flow), which I'm assuming it just can't handle being designed for a slower pump, all the other models the prefilter gets longer with each next size model but as I said the 850 uses 6 sponges in the pre filter which is exactly the same as the 600.

    • @Vaguenificent
      @Vaguenificent 11 місяців тому

      @@MikeZak101 tbh I’d suggest getting a Lilly pipe setup Dymax is really good and see if those fix your issue, if not maybe try removing some of the pre filtering elements to see if that helps. I can’t really see the filtering being the issue mainly cause once you tilt the canister and get all that air out the only way for more air to get in there would be from an air leak or something with your intake setup that’s getting air in your lines. Maybe observe your intake hosing and see if you notice any bubbles going thru the hose. Like I’m running Co2 at 6Bps so theres a lot of little micro bubbles introduced and I still don’t get that kind of issue.

      No matter what setup I’ve had, my 600 thermo has always had problems with air but to be fair, I’ve always used lily pipe and a surface skimmer. Maybe I’ll try with the OASE pipes to see if it improves. OASE said it’s a worn seal on the pre-filter and kindly sent a replacement but it hasn’t resolved the problem. So maybe using the OASE pipes might resolve matters. Thanks for the tip 👍

      Sure will get another done in the next few days. I have changed from a medo 45 air pump to a jaboe 35 as the medo was a bit to much. I have a 15000L water pump which is split sending 3000 to 5000 litres to the protein skimmer and the rest returning to the pond. The return from the protein skimmer which gravity returns back into the sieve. You can have it going back into the filter or striaght back to the pond but the return cant be under any pressure or it will mess with the water level in the protein skimmer. I am planning on putting on a dedicated 5000 l water pump just for the skimmer to make things abit more simple. Thanks

      Hi, I've been messing with protein skimmers for quite a while and have noticed a few things with them on fresh water systems. Mine kicked in very quickly, within and hour it was producing foam, but its all dependent on the level of waste in your pond. I have been tinkering with DIY protein skimmers over the last 10 years and have noticed a few things that might be of help to you with setting them up. I prefer to tune mine first thing in the morning after a long period of no food or a large amount of fresh water going in, about 8 hours. It sounds strange but I have noticed that if you feed or do a water change the skimming effect drops off about 10 minutes later and will take a couple of hours to build back up again depending on how much oxygen you have going into the pond. If you tune it just after feeding when its producing the least amount you will find in the morning it will most likely be chucking a lot of water out and not so much in terms of foam. I still haven't figured out what actually causes this to happen but my thoughts are is adding food or anything else disturbs the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water and needs to build back up again, again just in my opinion Ozone is the next move for me and was actually the reasoning behind buying this unit, and will hopefully be going on sometime this year. thanks.

    • @MikeZak101
      @MikeZak101 6 років тому

      The tank wasn't over stocked, i always run double the filtration needed on both my tanks and pond even though one is good enough, i always run two filters just in case one goes down so just as a back up really, there was a bit of bulling going on with a few a of them which only started to happen as they matured, more so between the same species. It was very minor the bulling literally one might take a quick snap at the other and then nothing for hours but when one would take a quick nip at the other, the one on the receiving end what go and hide behind something for quite some time, but from what i have experienced no damage was ever caused and half the time their was no contact, they are hardy looking fish but quite skittish and scare easily. To be honest the two i have left were wild caught imports which cost me a lot more to purchase, the others were random shop bought so not entirely sure of their breeding, two deaths were completely random as they were perfectly happy and eating the day before and dead in the tank the next morning on two separate occasions, no damage or anything that could be seen externally, the only things i could put it down to was either they were spooked and charged into the glass causing an internal issue or just bad genes. water perimeters are always perfect on this tank and i don't over feed.

    hi Michael Zak, what are the names of your plants? looks like some are not planted into the substrate and some are floating. my plants didn't survive with them, they kept breaking them when they chase each other and bump or tried to hide into it. My plants were pogostemon octopus but its gone now. I want to replant it like those you have. You do have a nice bichir and wonderful tank for them.

      Hi, i believe they were amazon swords, the tank wasn't really set up for plants, i just had them pushed into gravel and used a jbl clay ball to offer the plants some nutrients, to be honest they were fairly cheap plants that if they started to die off after a few months i would just replace. I read somewhere the reason my ones had long pointy leaves is because my lighting wasn't up to scratch so the leaves would grow this way which i didn't mind as it gave the bichirs more shade. Never really had a problem with the bichirs up rooting plants, what would happen occasionally is a few of my bichirs would get fed up if the lights were on for a long time and they would ram there heads into the gravel for some darkness and if a plant happened to be in the way while there pushing then it would float up, apart from that they never really bothered the plants.

      Thanks Michael Zak, I would want to have those Amazon sword planted on my bichir tank. I am not really into planted tanks but I just wanted some plants to take the nitrates away plus this plants are giving them soft hiding places as seen in your video.

    NICE, I HAVE A 98 XJR WITH 57,000 MILES. I HAVE YET TO PUSH HER TO SEE WHAT SHE CAN DO.. I WANT TO GET THE TENSIONERS CHANGED OUT FIRST.

      I had a 98 also, and like clockwork as soon as she hit a 100,000 miles they started knocking, that's plastic tensioners for you. While your have the timing chains and tensioners done make sure to have a new water pump fitted at the same time, as its all in the same area and will save you a load of labour if it needs to be replaced at a later date, plus they virtually cost nothing

      I found out that the XJR's do have the metal parts unlike the XJ8 because it is a different setup. I have gone to all of the Jaguar Forums and also see that a high rate of these cars engines blew at around 30-40K miles and Jaguar would actually replace the engines because they were still under warranty. I was able to see my tenioners after a hose let go under the intake and they looked to be very solid at this point, but still, piece of hard crappy plastic.. My XJR is here on my page if you want to see it, do you still have your Jag? Are you in the States? Thx..

    HI Alex, i feed them daily, different foods fish fillets, meal worms, pellets ham seams to really get them going, don,t know where they would find ham in the wild but they seam to love it. When i first started collecting them they where not active but as i started to fill the tank with a lot of plants bog wood etc they started becoming more active, i be leave they don't like open spaces the more cramped i make the tank the more comfortable and active they become, if i start removing things to give them more room they hide more, as strange as it seams they like cluttered tanks more them free swimming space.

    Hi mate, its a 75 gallon juwel rio 300 tank, will be moving them soon to a larger tank as the ornate and endlicheri are all over 14" now and growing fast, they are still fine in a tank this size as they prefer cluttered tanks to open spaced tanks, i just want to give them a bit more room

      Michael Zak were they 14" in this video. I have a 75 gallon also with just 2 senegals and an African leaf fish and that's all there will be, and was wondering if it will be big enough. They maybe look to be about 12" in the video to me.

      75 gallon will not be big enough for two.
