IASAS Piano Adjudication 2024 - Beethoven Sonata op10, no.2
IASAS Music is a convention where music students from schools in southeast asia come together and perform solos, ensemble, octet, and orchestra pieces in adjudications and concerts. This year's IASAS Music convention took place in Singapore, at Singapore American School with participants from Bangkok, Manila, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta.

In 1967 I did grade 5 Trinity COM and grade 4 ABRSM exams in Palayamkottai Tamil Nadu India . The latter was definitely tougher grade wise .
Beautifully played
So easy compared to ABRSM - scales were like grade 4 level speed, and the pieces were fairly easy with not much techinical difficulty
Well done young man. AB and Guildhall offer a challenging grade 8 programme too.

Can't belive that this is grade 8. As a teacher of the piano for 35 + years who uses the ABRSM EXAM system rather than trinity l think this demonstrates the vast difference between the 2 exam standards. If Trinity ever want to be recognised as a realistic alternative to ABRSM they really need yo raise their standard of repertoire and requirements.
Agreed, I remember how my scales book is so thick, the 3rd 6th aparts, the appregios in different inversions, the aural listening, and one of my Haydn piece for so difficult, how is this grade 8 standard… but anyway, let’s kit blame the performer itself but the exam board
Trinity has got easier these past few years. The pieces used to be a more challenging than the other exams . But such is life.
@@myhumbleopinion1036 the pieces were never more difficult than ABRSM, that's my humble opinion, just imagine playing your own comp for grades 1-6
I once asked a teacher who has been teaching for about a 'million years' which exam is the hardest since she teaches both ABRSM and Trinity. At the time she said Trinity this was about 2006. When Trinity became Trinity Guildhall she pointed out to me that it got watered down just by looking at the exam pieces. And I myself even did a side by side comparison of older material with newer ones and the newer stuff paled in comparison. I remember when all the supporting tests were compulsory at exams no matter the level you were at. Now it's very different you can pick and choose what to do which really robs u of a well rounded exam and examiner's critique. It's a shame because I always thought Trinity pieces though less to choose from were always more flexible with the outlook.
What a load of laughable hogwash, some Trinity grade 8 pieces are on the dipABRSM/ARSM repertoire lists, the Scarlatti is grade 8 according to Henle. Music conservatories and universities consider Trinity to be equivalent.

My Abrsm piano grade 6 pieces are much harder than these..... my grade five jazz pieces are at the same standard.

Trinity exam standards have gone down … they are more into profit making than recognising talent 😢 In my 35 years’ experience asa piano teacher i would deem this as a good, although not an excellent, performance. Ok , the notes are mostly 💯 accurate but at this level the performance needs more feeling and flair.

@@testiculartyrant777 I should also say most kids can memorize this if you force them to play it enough, but they won’t be able understand music theory or improvise despite being grade 8

yeah the kid got all his notes rights but the dynamics and especially the trill were not quite distinction standard the song also doesnt feel like its played by a human and instead one of those sample piano pieces you get on an electric piano
You played 3 songs?! I have to play 5 songs and im in grade 4.
You can play 5 songs or 3 songs, 3 exercises, scales and arpeggios. I’m studying for trinity and rockschool grade 8 at the same time and I’m doing like him for trinity, and 5 songs (3 of them are the trinity ones) for rockschool.
