I always love California High-Speed Rail in California.
Even as an Australian, who has heard of san fran and L.A. but never actually travelled there to see the geography or the people, I am a big supporter of this project. We would love to build some HSR or at least better rail connections on our east coast, its encouraging our governments to do so & yes i consider this issue as a whole when i vote in our elections.
It is long overdue as far as high speed trains are concerned in this country. I wished I were younger. If it takes off, I will be dead by the time it has a major affect.

Pure fiction.
Looooooooooooool - they can do it in Japan, they can do it in so many other countries and continents across the world, even here in Australia, we are looking to try and build some here on our east coast, with a population of 25 or 26 million people. I bet California has a population well above that.
Stop it with the text to speech voice and AI generated thumbnail
I really hope BLW is a future model of how to roll out HSR across the continent in an affordable and speedy manner, because California's OTHER HSR isn't it. It's how NOT to build a railway... Stick to existing cheaper ROW"s like Interstate median's.... Use only one-track sections to start with passing areas and always use electric trainsets. They are cheaper and faster to operate even with a higher upfront cost... Now if we could only see Brightline Cascadia, Brightline Texas and Brightline Midwest we'd be much better off as a society for it!
How much is California high speed rail authority paying you to post these lies, 1 the whole entire project was supposed to be completed in 2020, that's 4 years ago, it's 10 times over budget, and there's a 90% chance that the central valley segment is the only part that will ever be built,
Africa (!), Asia, Europe have High-Speed Rail. Of course it will work in California. But its so extremely slow and expensive. And that is unacceptable.
not really. High speed trains will help save us from the full effects of climate change. And that is worth any price.
Slow to get it built yes, but huge benefits when it's finally open.
An electric train does not automatically mean zero emissions! It of cause depends on the way how electricity is made...But a good step to get USA out of the "passenger train middle ages"
Who EXACTLY is going to ride this thing ... on a regular basis ? Just asking.
The people that currently drive or fly from one end of California to another for work or leisure.
All the people who drive and fly between the cities right now
As an Aussie, professionals who are sick of driving everywhere in congested traffic, and want that time back to themselves. The younger generations who are more likely to believe in man made climate change. They likely live in San Francisco or L.A. but want to commute to the other.
When this line opens, you’ll be surprised!
A few things worth noting: Brightline West is just the latest attempt at building a fast train between SoCal and Las Vegas, something talked about since the late 1990s after Amtrak discontinued its Desert Wind service. Brightline West took over the prior XpressWest project, which had already completed the environmental work for Las Vegas to Victor Valley, NE of Victorville. Brightline West then extended this line over Cajon Pass to Rancho Cucamonga, to among other things incentivize private investment. While it’s likely Brightline West will be the first to begin revenue service, given their much less complex route compared to California HSR’s, California HSR will always be the first to begin construction of the nation’s first high speed rail system. BLW’s will also be slower and have less capacity than CAHSR’s. Brightline West has also not begun construction yet. The groundbreaking at their Las Vegas station site in April of this year was ceremonial. Actual construction is set to finally begin in early 2025, having been delayed several times. It makes their very ambitious goal of starting revenue service in mid-2028 increasingly unlikely, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
I’m glad you mention the economic benefits of this project. High speed rail is so much more than just a fast train. It’ll connect communities and transit across the state, increasing mobility and bringing regions closer together. This project has already generated over $18 billion in economic output, most if not all of that going back into the Central Valley, a region that’s been historically underinvested in. Connecting the Central Valley to the Bay Area and SoCal will be huge.
I'd like a route at least going that fast between Las Vegas and Arizona's Phoenix area and in Phoenix to LA that would be ideal.
What tracks? Not one inch of actual rail has been laid yet. I'm not against HSR, but it has been a huge boondoggle financially and the money is coming out of the taxpayer's pockets. I have spoken to people actually working on HSR in the trenches and the graft / corruption is apparently rampant. It needs oversight.
They do have oversight. They’re being audited every year and are being very transparent with their spending. All that info is available on their website. Any sort of ‘wrongdoing’ that you’re hearing may be on the contractors (I have heard things about the ones building CP 1 and 2-3, namely with all the change orders), not CHSRA itself.
The section from San Francisco to San Jose is completely done.
I am happy that Bright Line West is being built , but it should go all the way to Los Angeles Union Station .
Bright Line makes it's money off real estate development rather than operational income. Rancho Cucuamonga is as decent point as a catch basin for Orange County and Inland Empire without having the huge expense of rail/electrification to Union Station. Plus they can develop the site or charge parking fees.
Depends on how the election goes tbh... somebody in his previous term caused quite a bit of delayed funding and had a terrible transportation secretary
Hope on Brightline West.

California High-Speed Rail will revolutionize passenger rail in the United States with California the first to enjoy the economic benefits of improved transportation that has proven it's worth internationally.
You forgot to mention that Caltrain has already been fully electrified as part of California HSR
Maybe I wasn't paying attention. . . what new routes and what new cities?
Why hasn't Amtrak added a DAILY train from Houston to San Antonio and Houston to Dallas? Texas is tired of being IGNORED and SCREWED by Amtrak. How large does Texas have to grow before Amtrak ADDS significant long distance services to Texas? Houston to Denver, Dallas to Atlanta, Houston to Orlando, and Dallas to Kansas City?
Currently an 8 hour road trip between KCY and MIN (Mineola TX) takes 25 hours and costs $123 one way. I’d love to have service between KCY and Galveston just for the convenience of taking a cruise without the complications of ground transportation.
@@ronclark9724because the Texas government doesn’t want to fund it
A BIG FUCKING JOKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With SEG Magnetics technology, trains will be able to operate without fuel of any kind. You won't need soal, nuclear, hydro, coal, ect. Go check it out
Oh wow, perpetual motion machine. Fun fact: the hardest part of making one is hiding the battery
Freight trains really throws a monkey wrench in Amtrak's plans.
Maby we just throw it back..
Well, frankly the FREIGHT is much more important to the economy than having passenger arrive to their destinations sooner... As in the novel and film Dune, THE SPICE MUST FLOW...
The freight trains pays for the upkeep of the rails on which Amtrak's rides on so maybe they should get priority over Amtrak
@@davidhill3724 I'm not saying they shouldn't but that's the problem that Amtrak has. In order for Amtrak to really prosper they have to build their own network of track. Free from freight cars. That's going cost over 50 billion+ and decades long work.
No, for Amtrak to prosper they have to stop screwing up! Their equipment choices suck!
A route from Chicago to Vegas, Miami and Houston is the real game changer
Chicago to Vegas or Miami is irrelevant. Even in Japan or Europe such distances are not done by train. First the regional HS and regional commuter connections (Proper NEC hs connectionsTexas-OKC , California, Chicago/Midwest, Cascadia ) ..
@@lws7394 that's because the United States is much much larger than Europe and Japan
@@lws7394 Japan is small than the state of California
@@harjabenharris4510 The golden rule for HSR journeys is 3hr, with a max to 5 hr. For longer the train is just not competitive. One of the fastest corridors is Paris-Bordeaux with 600km in a whopping 2 hr. With such incredible speed one could do 1500km in 5hr. Whether that distance Paris-Madrid ever becomes competitive still has to be seen. Denver-Las Vegas (1200km with no serious cities in between) through the Rocky Mountains will not make sense to justify the massive investments of building HS rail through the Rockies. It is as ridiculous as the Chinese HS rail line through the western desert to Urumqi in the Uygur region. such incredible speed one could do 1500km in 5hr
@@harjabenharris4510 🙂 Americans .... The distance San Diego to Vancouver is 1900km. The distance from Nagasaki in the south via Tokyo to Sapporo in the north is 2500km ! One difference is that those Westcoast states and BC have a pop. of 55mln , whereas Japan has twice that population with major cities every 250km. The 1000km between San Fransisco and Portland have mostly mountains and forests, really not suitable for to build a fast rail.. But of course those regions mentioned before should have good hsr !
"oops we dropped another billion on another trainset and forgot to buy ANY length of rail- again! Sorry! Please give us another several billion so we can do it again?" -Amtrak, probably
That seems to be the biggest issue with US rail infrastructure at the moment.
Well the current rolling stock needs to be replaced to maintain current levels of service. To expand further from that will require additional investment.
They have the money, but nothing they buy works.
That’s still cheaper then highways
@@tonyburzio4107 would help if they just bought rails/land for straightening the track, or removing grade crossings, etc.-. It’s a lot harder for those to go wrong.
It needs $200B for the best case scenario build of phase 1 and 2. Sadly this money is not forthcoming. hopefully kamala can give them 10%+ of that
Ok, Phase 1 AND 2. Phase 1 they already have $28 billion available, $13 billion of which has been spent across the entire project (construction, land acquisitions, environmental clearance, ‘bookend’ projects like Caltrain electrification, legal challenges, etc.). Their base cost estimate for SF-Anaheim is currently $106 billion (high end is $128 billion). They need up to $7 billion more to complete Merced-Bakersfield, $4.7 billion of which they’re now competing for in future IIJA grants.
The fact that all the blue states are doing worse than ever especially California and yet people like you still wish Kamala to win is beyond unbelievable. Lol

California HSR trying to be like Japan Railways Shinkansen in Japan!!
yes that’s a good thing
Halelujah !!! And now, with the emergence of hydrogen power trains, they won't have to build overhead power lines. Lots of money saved there. Alstom's i-lint train is already in operation around the world. GO FOR IT !!!
I don't think I-lint is capable of operating at high speeds and hydrogen power trains aren't very energy efficient.
@@aGame284 Doesn't matter All that matters is to achieve net zero carbon emissions and H is the only way to do that.
@@johndunbar7504 biggest priority is the speed, and electric is the only way to do that, also zero emissions
@@duncanholden2826 Wrong on all counts. Alstom tested the i-lint in my home country of Canada.for many months last winter. Results showed that it matched or exceeded diesel and electric trains in all performance characteristics (the i-lint is ultimately electric at the power wheels). These results satisfied German railways who ordered a dozen trains after that. p.s. electric trains are not `zero emissions'.They have all sorts of environmental proiblems in production.
@@johndunbar7504 <-- I don't know what you're smoking but there is no way hydrogen fueled is more efficient than overhead power lines. I'm guessing you are eating up the company propaganda. Someday there may be a use for hydrogen fuel, but it won't be trains. It is going to be something that cannot be plugged into the grid.
awesome view
Much better than 249 km/h: just arrive on time (Berlin-Spandau should have been reached 5 minutes ago). Deutsche Bahn disappoints once again.
