Hello. My name is Aivis. I am working on old and not so old, more or less interesting cars, mainly older Volvos and repair them to give them a new lives. If you are interested in that type of content, come along. :)
If you have some old, broken or any interesting car that you want to get rid of preferably in Sweden or at least in Europe, reach out to me via email. Lets see if we can get it up and running again and feature it in the channel.

Tips and Tricks - Valve lapping the lazy way
Do the brake lines, fuel line first, then wiring loom. Next suspension, front hubs and steering plus brakes and rear end. Engine and driveline next and button up the clutch, brake master and bleed the system. Once thats done sort the dash and then roof lining and once thats settles into place then front and rear glass and seals. Usually trim and interior are last with glass, door cards etc because they can be damaged on a build. Then its all the small fiddly stuff which usually takes the longest to do :-)
Good suggestions. :) I started with sound insulation. Now added some chrome mouldings. Next was thinking tp put it on the wheels. So I can roll it arround and take away the frame. But most likely first I need to do the brake lines and fuel line before I do the suspension bits. Since they are there before it. Anyhooo. Will crack on bit by bit.
@realvolvofreak hard lines are easier when there's nothing in the way I found and you don't have a hoist for under body work. Àlso worth making sure the fuel system will cope with ethanol fuels. I'm slowly doing a 144 B20 K jet car and I find modern fuels cause a lot of issues with OEM parts :-)
@@tony66au o yes. Specially for the rubber parts. They were not designed to cope with ethanol.

Fitting a Backup Camera on XC90 Gen 1 would be an interesting video
@@Gigafreak94 good comment. Do you have xc90 that you would like to update with camera?
@realvolvofreak I'm actually looking for one at the moment. In the best case I would like to get one of the last 2014 D5 models. And if I manage to get one, I want to retrofit a backup camera, Bluetooth adapter and maybe some auxiliary lights on the front.
@ mine is early 2005. So no usb no camera no navigatioj scree. So one option is to go and buy Legend unit that would give me all the options. :) even including the carplay. But then I will loose the stock look. Not sure I ak ready for it. 🙈 and my biggest concern is if the audio quality will be as good as with factory head.
@@realvolvofreak have you seen these "stand alone" car play screens? There are many advertisements of them in the moment. They can send sound via Bluetooth, AUX or even build in FM-Transmitter. Most of them can be attached to a backup camera. So the stock radio can still be used and the screen has some kind of stand which could be installed on the dashboard.
@ they use fm modulator. That means sound is crap
Hello my XC90 D5 sometimes goes like a new and sometimes I feel like having no turbo and no power plus hissing noise when taking my foot off pedal - so you think its the actuator I should replace? Thanks
Before replacing anything. Do the fault tracing. For xc90 there were two diesel generations. So I dont know which one you have. Also it could be hole in the intercooler pipe. Also intercoolers themselves got holes. Need a proper investigation before replacing parts
Can you do a Instrument cluster Tach signal splicing for ecu video
How easy it is to unscrew the block do you have good access?
Quite easy. Hard to see, since it is deep inside, but doable
@@realvolvofreak are the characters on the body of the actuator clear without removal? I would rather have the right one to hand to do a straight replacement.

@@WRBL69 yes they were quite stuck there. I ended up braking two of them.
Did the car sound different like if it was overloading alot? Or did it just lack in power? Because I have the same engine and it sound like a supercar turbo and lack in power.?
@@jonathan6034 sound was the same. But there was definitely the lack of power. The sound could be also for different reason. Like leaking air pressure pipe.
Seams I having similar problem
I have XC90 2.4 D5 from 2005 and is on 517 000 km.
I have a few Volvo's, 1974 144, 740T with the HP kit, 740 wagon, 1999 S90 Royal and a 97 C70 T5 plus a 00 V40T :-) I've had a lot of them over the years but the C70 is truly evolutionary when it comes to Volvo and it is a huge step up and I believe the beginning of Volvo being cool for younger generations. I was always a Red block guy but the early Black badge models really surprised me and I fell in love with the practical beauty of Design/Form and Function.

Its great to see a XC90 V8. Nicely done video. I recently bought one from 2009. It has a few issues and would love to see what all work you would do on it to get it road worthy. Mine has quite a few issues and has already done 340K, but I plan to keep it for long and use it as my daily driver. Hi What is the price please?
You need to agree on the price with supplier. I has for one, you will agree on other one. Depends where you are and what are your needs. I was talking to several ones before buying this.
Hey man, replaced ignition coil, distributor, distributor cap, rotor, crankshaft sensor, mass airflow sensor, and the wire from the stributor cap to the ignition coils. Still not starting. Any ideas?
Do you have spark or not? If not then need to verify that ecu and coil gets power. If not then issues in wiring or then it could be that ecu (engine control unit) is bad. But that does not happen often.
Do you have fuel pressure? If not, the fuel pump relay is a common failure point. On 940s it's usually located on the fuse block behind the center console ashtray in front of the shifter. Pull out the ashtray and remove the tray above it (2 screws behind lighter cover trim).
fuel pump relay or the injector relay, on red block engines the injector relay is called the radio relay, its mounted on the pass side strut tower , theres 2 identical relays, just swap them and see if that works. i think the other relay is windshield wipers. you can open relays and reflow the solder, it cracks due to heat / vibration, its a common problem.
First mistake is getting old.

Good luck with those bad boy lifts 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Thanks. 😃👍
Im not sure i would want to trust myself under the car with them hydraulic ramps, your a braver man than me. I hope there is a lock off position should hydraulic fail? Good vlog. Thanks😳😳
Yes there is a lock. That what I mean. While working under it you can lock both sides so in case hydraulic fails it stays up. To be honest it looks to be built from quite hefty and thick metal.
The V8 in the XC90 is the best sounding V8 I've ever heard. I've had mine for 4 or 5 months. My daily driver for the last 20 years has been a 454 cubic inch Chevy 1 ton crew cab long bed 4x4 (yes, American)but these V8s have the best sound! Very balanced. Mine is an 09 with 200k miles. It scares the crap out of me because this is not a car I will be able to work on myself and in the US any Volvo repair or maintenance is extremely expensive. It's not as bad as it was in the 90s or the 2000s but it's still a big deal and I'm guessing that's why used XC90s are so cheep in the US. Americans are probably scared of them. I'm not rich, so I am scared too. Anything Chevy I could fix myself with no problem but I've already seen simple things on my XC90 get real complicated real quick. For instance, a simple thing that's been driving me absolutely nuts is the gas struts on the rear hatch have broken out of the hatch on the upper end. Come to find out the upper hatch is fiberglass...and the lower is metal. For the life of me I can not figure out a way to remount any style of upper ball fittings to the fiberglass pillars of the rear hatch. I can't even figure out how the threaded inserts have held that heavy hatch up all these years in the first place. It looks like the inserts were held in the hollow fiberglass hatch pillars with some type of adhesive that has the consistency and texture of Bondo! What the heck is going on? I've bought 7 or 8 different ball fitting configurations but there isn't a straight or flat surface to mount them and the original holes are blown out. It's a simple thing but I can't seem to think my way around this frustratingly simple problem...and that rear hatch has to be the heaviest of any I've ever seen. There's been other simple issues like this that got out of hand. It's almost like someone thought ahead to block any "fix" a person might come up with. ...AND where is the trans. dipstick? Where is the freakin battery? That one actually panicked me a bit. Thought I was losing my mind. I don't even understand all the buttons yet! That said, it sure is nice to drive and I love it!
Appriciate your comment. :) And probably the same can be said about the american cars here in Europe. Since we dont have them a lot. I see the xc90 as solid and easy car to work on. Generally I find them to be easier to work on comparing other European brands. But yes it has some odd things as well. Like the plastic hatch. It is like that on most volvos so they do not rust. And yes that v8 sound. Since it is 60 degrees between lines it sounds different. And I love that sound. 😃
Thank you!
You are welcome
