50 vs 150, how much power do you really need? By Blue Collar Gear Review
Do you need 150 watts or do you want 150 watts? Truth is, you can not tell the difference in 50 watts of tube power vs 150 in the room! It really boils down to the headroom of the amp. This demo is meant to be a short demo to help you decide how big of an amp your really need and can you do the job with less wattage! You decide. Thank you for watching!

What is up gear nerds? Just a quick demo and show case on some features and overall 'reach' the Boss MS3. This is a video of how it fits not how it works to help you determine if this unit will fit on your board or with your pedals. Great unit, I have an opinion on the ergonomics, but overall, it is a powerful unit.

What's up gear nerds? I hope you are doing well out there. This video is an example of how to set up and run a pedal rig using a hand full of stomp boxes. Far from perfect, but the goal here is to illustrate how to run connections and provide an example of one of many ways this can be done. Questions or comments? We'd love to hear from you.
NoiseGate Shoot Out by Blue Collar Gear Review
Переглядів 89Рік тому
What is up gear nerds? Playing high gain stuff usually requires a noisegate of sorts to tame those amps and hot ODs. This is an honest attempt to show the difference in how several may perform. As mentioned in the review, the purchase of the noise gate is to be a part of a pedal rig for snatch and go gigs while attempting to not break the bank! Can you get a decent noisegate that doesn't wreck ...

LY Rock & KSR Ares Comparison by Blue Collar Gear Review
Cool video man! Just got a set of these after watching your video 🤟🤟Rock on brother!
Thanks for watching! Glad it helped you out!
Great demo, thank you. The evh cabinet on the video is 2x12 , right? If so, the powerstage 170 has one speaker output, how did you use them together?
Thank you for watching. You are correct, the Duncan has one speaker jack as does the EVH 2x12. I am presently using a device called a ‘cab splitter’. It allows me to split cabs with various ohm loads and also, in this case, allows me to use two cabs.
Anniversaries all day long 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I have held onto these since filming. Love these cabs! Thank you for watching.
hi. this ly Rock clone still best metal preamp and still actual to buy it?
Hi! Thanks for watching! Since the making of this video I still own and use this preamp. It sounds killer. I believe you can still buy them, check out reverb.com - there’s usually some floating out there.
🤘
Thank you for watching!
Appreciate the recommendation! I need to try one of these.
Hope you like it! Thank you for watching.
How did you get this guitar tone?
Direct in with a PRS loaded with bare knuckle aftermath pickups! Right into the front of a 6505+. 🤘
I had one for my '93 strat plus into a Dean Markley amp and absolutely loved it. My favorite pedal. It was like the salt on my pinto beans.
I love the way you stated that, it’s a pedal that should be used to the players taste…it can add a great layer of tone or it can stink up the tone depending on. Thank you for watching.
I use the Boss Cable Kit with mine, with a Rockboard Tres 3.1 board
Definitely suggest it!
Sounds awesome!
Thanks for watching! A definite improvement in my ears.
Seeing as this design comes from the pages of a musicians friend catalog from 2002, I am not surprised this thing has issues
Concept, the idea is great, but definitely room for improvement. There are way better options out there. Thanks for watching.
Here's a question: Does this pedal remove the hum and noise actually while you're playing, as well as not playing?
It absolutely does. You don’t know it’s there until it’s off if you’re using a high gain setup. Thanks for watching!
It absolutely does. You don’t know it’s there until it’s off if you’re using a high gain setup. Thanks for watching!
@@bluecollargearreview thanks so much
Very welcome. This board has changed a little bit over time, but the isp is still a key part of the rig.
Have you ever tried plugging in reverse for the seagull effect? From what I know only some gcb95's are capable of that "error" but as this one have 2 outputs and one of which can be assigned as an input, I thought maybe this one might accidentally have that option. Please let me know if you have any information regarding this matter.
Thank you for watching! I’m now going to investigate this because I am a nerd and LOVE this kind of thing.
Awesome video, what power supply are you using for the lr rock? Thank you!
This only needs a standard 9v power supply. Thanks for watching!
@bluecollargearreview 9v 100ma or higher ma? Thanks a lot!
@@yurikomaharjan6824most are standard 200ma which would be plenty.
The 33 on the green channel of the 5150 II would probably work better than the lead channel. I’ve got a Bugera 6262 Infinium that’s basically a clone of the 5150 II’s and the 6505+ amps, and i’ve always found the crunch channel on those amps with the gain turned all the way up sounds a lot better than the lead channel, which i don’t think is such a bad thing since you can EQ the lead channel and turn the channel volume up a bit higher to use it for solos in a band practice or live setting. The green channel with the gain all the way up also works great for high output passive pickups or even active pickups since you’ll be able to get a lot more juice out of your amp without the need to have to compensate by using an overdrive to push the front end too hard. I’ve always found overdrives seem to make higher output and active pickups sound a little bit sterile and the 33 does a really good job of letting the dynamics of the pickups shine right through.
Thanks for watching! I no longer have that pedal in my possession but I agree and the green channel is super underrated for these amps. Maybe that would be a good video?
@@bluecollargearreview i think it would be too. There are also people who have used a 6 or 10 band graphic EQ to mimic the frequencies the 33 is known for pushing. I’ve also seen some videos of the TC Electronic Spark boost which is basically TC’s update on the Integrated Preamp design with three switches for fat, clean, and mid boost capabilities and a dedicated Gain knob in case you need a little extra output for your boosted guitar tones, and it’s much cheaper than the 33. I think you can get the Spark booster for around $80 brand new if i’m not mistaken, definitely worth checking out as well if you come across it!
@@Stretchwreckedem469I love this feedback. It gives me a lot to research and dig into. Thank you! This is exactly why I started this channel.

Can it be replaced by the Electron Analog Heat?
I’ve not personally tried the electron analog heat, but I’ll see what I can find out!
I love the channel name, as a blue collar worker myself, I had to subscribe!!
Thank you for watching! That’s exactly what the channel is about! No fancy gimmick, no frills and click bait, just your average working musician who loves to try gear! The goal is to help folks make real informed decisions based on a neutral straight forward approach. Thank you for the sub!
Once you have a sonic stomp, you can't play without it.
I agree, it’s definitely has its place. This video is a bit older now, but the Sonic stomp still lives on my active pedal board. Thank you for watching!
Yeah mane! Righteous
Thank you for watching!
I've never seen issues like guitar players have with communication. This was a convoluted version of the manual which is useless. Distortion goes in the front of the amp (between the guitar and the input. Modulation goes into the effect loop....on a very generic setup. ALL of it is subject change depending on the player. But, no one has shown even with a crude picture, if nothing else, a routing scenario for this kind of setup. If I understood you right, your delay is going into the front of your amp? Regardless...this is an exceptional video for those who question whether or not the pedal works at all (and here are already 500 videos of guys to show you how to step on the on/off switch). Hitting the like button because this guy was nice enough to at least try and help other people with this problem.
Man, thank you for watching and thank you for the kind words. I honestly got tired of trying to find a good demo of this setup myself so I did my best to make one and explain it. For this setup which is still largely in tact today, all drives are in front and all modulation pedals are in the loop including the delay. Makes me happy that someone out there found it useful. Thank you for watching!
@@bluecollargearreview Trying to make videos like this is incredibly difficult, especially when on the fly. So, as critical as I am to this specific topic, you still were genuine enough, to take time out of your day to try. For that, alone, I subscribed, and hit the like button.
sick!
Thank you for watching!
This vs Herbert/VH4/Chug/Total Distortion Worship, to name a few?:)
Ohhh man, that could be fun! I’ll see if I can get my hands on them. Thank you for watching!
Ohhh man, that could be fun! I’ll see if I can get my hands on them. Thank you for watching!
Do I need any pedal to use this ?
Only your desired preamp or distortion. It’s a ‘clean’ power amp by itself.
@@bluecollargearreview thanks
Thanks for watching!
Quite small range.
There’s a range knob on the side that can dial a lot of tone.
@@bluecollargearreview welp what's the point of review, if you don't show what pedal can do
Thanks for the feedback.
That Diezel sounds so pissed. Also, that shirt looks nice on you!
Thank you for watching! Yes, agreed! The Herbert preamp was fun! The room sounded huge when demoing it.
You end up placing the decimator ISP at the end of the chain then before your Boss Delay ? That’s how I have mine I also have a 2 -channel amplifier
Yes! This is to keep the isp from cutting any delay tails off. I usually go with any modulation after the gate when I can. What rig are you running? Thank you for watching.
I have one of these V's, it's awesome. The one thing that was not mentioned in the video is the neck. The neck is the '58 baseball bat neck, very beefy. If you have small hands or like a thin neck, you may want to look elsewhere.
Definitely agree! Thank you for watching. The neck is very beefy!
Is this thing better than the VH4 pedal?? Cause that VH4 pedal is awful
I’m not sure, but I’ll try my best to find one and compare. My first impression of the Herbert is very positive. Thank you for watching
@@bluecollargearreview Your demo on a UA-cam video sounded better than I could ever get that VH4 pedal to sound
I had the VH4 2 for about 2 days. Tried it through multiple power amps and cabs and wasn't a fan, so I traded it. I will say that it wasn't terrible, but not worth the price. Demonfx is a fraction of the price and have some awesome pedals, especially their Friedman BE-OD clone.
@@ricksanchezito8972I’d be interested in trying the demonfx stuff, started seeing more and more of them. Thanks for watching!
@@Mike_HuntizWetvery much appreciated, part two dropped today with more direct focus on the tones.
Both sound great, the low sound of the KSR range is bigger and thicker, however it is not bad for the sound of the KSR clone from Ly-Rock, suitable for the price and its status as a clone, thank you brother for the great review and 'evil' riffs..lol
Thank you for watching! I don’t love clones over all but as a way to get into trying new stuff, it’s a far more affordable option. Thank you for the feedback.
I’ve played with Invaders for many years. I’m familiar with Nazgûl’s too. They’re both great. Both have their time and place. I do like the Nazgûls slightly better for Metal than Punk though but I don’t think you could go wrong with either or depending on what you wanted to do.
Thank you for watching! Since filming this, I actually one have the invaders. Both great pickups for sure. Agreed, time and place make sense.
I've always been intrigued by the MS-3. Good points made on here regarding the setup.
Thank you for watching! I ended up getting rid of this unit but it’s worth a look.
@@bluecollargearreview what do you use instead ? Thanks
Cool. I was at guitar center and had no idea what this product does. Kinda like bluetooth for guitar. Nice vid
Thanks for watching! One observation after owning it a while is proper power makes a huge difference in reliability.
Bbe acoustimax pedal
Until now i dunno whats the correlations between dog image and tremolo 😅
At the time of filming this, I didn’t know. Months later, I still don’t know! The pedal still works great though. Thanks for watching!
We just purchased one of these used, and we were trying to figure out if the pedal was supposed to be loose. Turns out it is!
Yes, it definitely felt loose to me too. It still felt smooth during this demo. Thank you for watching!
Nice job! FYI: The lever doesn't turn on "auto wah". It's not an auto wah. The lever activates the auto off feature. It turn off when you're not moving the pedal. The delay knob sets how long it takes to turn off after no pedal activity.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the tip! I had this pedal on loan for the video, and loved it so much I ended up buying it. I appreciate the feedback.
Not many people care what a local guy thinks of his amps Jesus I just wanted to hear the speaker cabinet dude terrible review terrible terrible review.
The LYR is a cheap Chinese knockoff of the KSR Ceres pedal. Skip it and buy the Ceres or Vesta pedals from KSR!
No denying it’s a knock off and does feel cheap. That said, for players on a budget or wanting to try the idea of a preamp pedal, it’s not bad. Personally, I don’t know that I’d gig with it long term, but studio work or jamming, it’s not bad. Thanks for watching!
Running that 100w Randall into the evh 212 without killing the speakers? Just grabbed the Randall for $60 and I have an evh 212 for cab at the moment.
Thanks for watching! No, I had no issues running this pairing pretty hard. Usable volume though is less than half of what the amp has on tap.
Yeah I noticed the effects loop volumes gotta be around half or else she gets squealy. Absolute killer amp otherwise. Great backup for my 5150 iii.
Use EBS cables
Thank you for watching! Good cables are essential.
If you place your MS3 on a pedaltrain where the cables drop between the rails, all the cables can drop straight down and you don’t have to bend them sideways at all. Pretty simple concept. This definitely wouldn’t work with a Temple board though but that seems obvious.
Yup! The exact point. You have to ‘account’ for cable routing in some fashion. Thanks for watching and comment!
I've got a looper with two rows of connections on it.... To avoid costs with expensive cables I'm now using a big board to accomodate looper cables with normal size straight 1/4 inch jacks. Before I used Harley Benton cable kits only to come to the conclusion that you will eventually run out of space on the looper despite very small connectors. Also got a lot of poor connections with the cables in time. Great vid and tips!
Thank you for watching! You’ve also confirmed the exact point, to account for cables and space when building a rig. What I have personally found to be frustrating is buying something only to have to buy something else to make it work the way I wanted. Cheers!
Don’t point the 90degree cables down, point them up.
Thanks for watching! George L’s or some other custom cable kit may be the solution here.
Great vid mate, did you use an impulse response here for the cabinet? Ah no you used that EVH cab down there haha didnt see it.
Thanks for watching! Yes, this was indeed the EVH cab.
I have a Randall RH100G2 and I love mine, I run mine with a Boss SD2 and a MXR 10 Band EQ
100% a sleeper amp! Thank you for watching.
Literally the BEST gift my wife has ever bought for me. Still want another Tremonti SE PRS, B.B. King Lucille, K-7 Ibanez, K-5 Ibanez Bass, Original Kramer Krakle Paint, 1979 Fender strat, Schecter 006 Elite in vampire red with satin finish.
It’s still my favorite guitar after all this time.
Dude I'm back again to ask u something. Can i connect EVH 5150 40W iconic ivory combo with EVH 2x12 stealth cab? Cz i didn't enjoy enough of my combo so and I'm still alone. Even with band at not big stage i cane use the combo but can i use it with stealth 2x12 idk how the things works with Wats...thank u man \m/
Welcome back! Take a look at the speaker out on the amp. The short answer is maybe as I am not familiar with the features of that amp. If it has a speaker out then yes, you can likely run a cab out. The main thing though is to make sure you have matching ohms for the cab…ohms is a fancy word for making sure the power matches. For example, if the amp says speaker out, 8ohms, you’d safely be able to plug into an 8 ohm cab. So, short answer with out me knowing that amp all that well, if it has a speaker out on the back, then yes, you could run an extension cab. Many bigger combo amps are equipped with this option. I hope this helps.
Dude that tone is immaculate🫡
Thank you for watching!
It’s been a little bit since this video was filmed, but I am pretty positive it is direct into the 6505+ with a PRS loaded with bare knuckle aftermath pickups. The cab is an oversized krank with v30s.
