Produce safety ensures to your buyers that you have thought about how your actions impact the safety of the food you grow. It consists of identifying on-farm food safety risks and developing a plan to in order to prevent foodborne illness outbreaks. We are here to provide educational resources and assistance to fresh produce growers on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule requirements.

Water used to grow and harvest fresh produce comes with some produce safety risks. It can be a source of contamination, or it can be a way contamination can spread. Choosing the right source of water can reduce the risk of contamination.

Food contact surfaces must be maintained so they are visibly free of filth. If the bottom of your buckets or other food contact surfaces aren't clean enough to eat off of, they likely aren't clean enough to harvest produce into.
