A couple things I can't fathom about British I just tried watching an older British show, The Duchess of Duke Street. Now, in America, we certainly have bad fiction villains who are over the top, such as in the stupid show DALLAS. In British fiction, the message seems to be: EVERY class of person is VILE and STUPID to the absolute core. I wish I could remember the book. It was supposed to be some kind of dramatic story. I remember getting literally TEN pages in at the very start of the first chapter, and gave up. The author spent TEN pages talking about the weather, the drops of rain on the leaves, the miserable dusty room, and how dark and depressing the mansion was, how uncomfortable the furniture was. What the actual FUCK? NOTHING should appear in a story that does not MOVE THE STORY FORWARD. How do British writers not understand that? Every single charterer, including the hero, was a worthless shit bag person. They all despised each other, yet they all voluntarily associated with each other. I just don't understand. Is it only possible in America to say, "fuck you all" and walk out the door forever? Is it only in America where the central character is a person you would admire and enjoy reading about and want to emulate? Rich, poor, doesn't matter British characters all DESPISE everyone else, and they are all equally horrible people. No British character has any redeeming qualities. I never read the Harry Potter sewage, but I did glance at.....and this is a classic example. His parents, and 99% of everyone around him is a shitbag stupid venal arrogant turd. WHY???????????????????? Worst of all, what the FUCK is up with the INCESSANT INTERMINABLE NAUSEATING BORING british murder mysteries? Grow a brain.
