Trumpet Tune on "The Day of Resurrection" - Jason D. Payne
Well done! Nice music for the start of a new year.
I don't think the Welsh people would find this "legitimate". They are pretty strict about the original hymn with a repeat chorus or 2 or 3.
👌
When I played
Vervelend , : het zaagt maar door. ...
A really beautiful performance of my 'Idyll' on this fabulous organ: bravo, James! I feel very honoured indeed to have you play one of my compositions and saying 'thank you' seems inadequate after listening to your gorgeous recording. But 'thank you VERY much' is the best I can offer, I'm afraid, as you live too far away for me to be able to offer you a celebratory drink!
@grahamtwist I'm so pleased that you're pleased! I heard of this piece a while back and decided at some point I really needed to visit it. I'm so glad I did. It will certainly become a quiet staple in my rep. I received a compliment on the Sunday morning I played this as well, that went something like, That's the most gentle beautiful thing I've heard you play! 😍 And as to a celebratory drink, I'll definitely have one in your absence! 😉 If you ever come to Ontario or Niagara Falls, do reach out!
Amazing ! Thank you very much for this great playing 😀
Do you know the piece called Vesters by Bruce Steane. Only two pages, but a harmony to couple the breath with sonorities to the Cesar Franck. If you want the score I can digitize it for you and send it to you wherever you want by whatever means you want and if you find the score well enjoy. Hello from Canada where beautiful great Casavants sound.
Came across this randomly and glad that I did. I have listened to a lot of your organ recordings and you are an amazing organist. Thank you for sharing these with us! The organ in this church is incredible. Lots of power for what looks like a small space. The final measures in this piece where the trumpet comes on and you are pretty much at full stops (or you are at full stops) is stunning. But the part that gives me chills every time I hear this is that final note. I would have held it for 30 seconds or longer. Haha. I could hear the organ get slightly winded briefly which I think makes for a gorgeous sound that only a wind blown pipe organ can make. I have heard organs with undersized blowers sound obnoxious with a full stops 8 note chord in the manual with 2 pedal notes. But this organ has plenty of blower and that brief pressure perturbation makes the individual pipes stand out just enough that you are able to perceive that the huge sound is being produced by a whole bunch of individual tuned pipes sounding together. Great playing!!!! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!!!
Beautiful James!
Thanks Matthijs! And thanks for watching! 🤩
Was this one hard too play? I like the tune! Sounds really good!
@danielheerschap it wasn't nearly the hardest thing I've played, but it had a few little twists to it that made it fun and interesting!
I'm on that train!
Enjoy! 🛤🚂🎵🎶🎹
Nice job! Thanks!

I enjoy your videos and what a beautiful instrument!
@buttersrow426 Thank you and thanks for watching! 😊
Very nice but I have to ask why are there blue paraments?
Thanks! I'm not sure what you mean with "blur paraments" though...
Do you mean the dark blue and gold banners (paraments?) hanging from the table and the lectern? If so, this is recorded in Presbyterian church, where blue is a predominant colour (notice the carpet as well). 💙
@@jv04jm I associate Blue more with Advent. I thought Presbyterians follow the Liturgical Calendar. We are in the green season now of Sundays after Pentecost. But to each his own.
@markohearn9978 ahh I see. We don't change these paraments, ever. This local congregations doesn't follow the lectionary too closely either.
Harold DeCou's arrangements are exceptional reharmonizations.
They're definitely accessible and quite smooth! :)
Wonderful James! I absolutely enjoy this work! What I, and many of our families would really appreciate is, if you would put your 'Amazing Grace' piece that you played at my dear sister's and your aunt Wilma's funeral, online. It was so special to us. Would you be willing to do that?
Hi Dianne, thanks so much for watching and for your kind words! I actually did end up recording that arrangement and sharing it on my channel shortly thereafter, dedicating it to her memory (watch till the end and check out the description). @@jv04jm *welsh
@@jv04jm I was under the impression it was Welsh music?
@JoshMcNabb sure... an American composer writing an arrangement on a Welsh hymn tune, played by a Canadian of Dutch descent on an organ built by a Canadian of German heritage in a church of Scottish Presbyterian heritage. 🤩
@@jv04jm That's awesome!! I find tunes originating from Wales have something special about them, including some pretty phenomenal harmonies. Calon Lân, Cwm Rhondda, Rachie, and In Memoriam are notable examples. Keep up the great posts!
Awful rendition. I couldn't hear the hymn at all.
You may need to listen a little more closely beginning at 0:42. 😉
Wow! Because YOU couldn't hear the hymn, that somehow makes it an awful rendition by someone else?
One thing I believe has harmed the art of organ playing has been the indifference and arrogance of those close to the instrument. As a music director, I always left the console unlocked and open so children could walt up and touch it, to help them develop an interest. I have been at churches where the church council had to approve anyone even playing the thing. Hey folks! Wake up! It is a musical instrument. Then there are the thousands of non-players who believe they are music critics....

Thank you kindly Robert. This fanfare is especially effective and one of my Paul Fey faves!! 🤩
My pleasure!!
Beautifully performed!!!
Thank you! 😊
So shrill the sound.
It sometimes can be... depending on how well tuned the mixture is how high up the keyboard. It does have some neo baroque tendencies which seem to align which don't always perfectly suit this more romantic type of music.
Cool.
Thanks!
Just stumbled upon this; what an incredible arrangement, and flawless performance! Can you please share where to find this arrangement? Thanks and please post more!
Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching! 😊 I found this piece in the collection "Seven Hymn Voluntaries" published by Theodore Presser Company, 1965.
