What gives this homemade applesauce its deep beautiful color? It’s the peels. This is my no-peel homemade applesauce. It’s blended after simmering which saves tons of time and makes it appealing (pun intended) to make. I don’t add any sweeteners because it’s delicious as-is. The peels also give this applesauce a rich, beautiful color.

I love serving this with a dusting of powdered sugar, a squeeze of fresh lemon, and sliced fresh strawberries 😋
People, calm down. Dutch babe is just a name for this recipe. It was created here in good USA. I love this recipe, it’s very tasty and I usually do a savory with cheese on top top and a sweet one with Nutella and fresh berries.

I don't know why it's called German pancakes or a Dutch baby. That is the name of the recipe and it was taught to me by a baker when I was young. It's referred to by that name as you will see if you do a search. I'm sorry if it bothered you.

Hi, Natalie, thanks for sharing this recipe. We used to buy Anisette Toast by the pound at the local italian market when I was a kid but all the old ladies in their bakery died and they're not the same anymore. I don't live there anymore, but, when I visit, $15/pound for a mediocre cookie these days is just crazy. Most recipes for these on youtube are actually biscotti recipes and NOT real anisette toast. They're a totally different texture than biscotti. For example, if you see a recipe that calls for creaming butter, that'll give you a biscotti texture. Some of the other recipes that look like the real anisette toast call for oil, however. I'm curious as to why you don't use any in yours. Will try them out anyway and report back. Thanks again!
