Zum steel sounds great through the Fender amp
Love this!
Hey girl, Mike is a genius
I have another track but I can’t send it on here
It’s the rhythm playing that caught me off guard. I find a lot of pedal steel players I’ve listened to struggle in that regard
Steel player is great, no doubt, but, he needs to back off the volume while the singer is doing his thing. other than that I need this guy to teach me a thing or two on the steel.
That song is carried by the steel... Or at least it is on the original recording.
Mike: this is belated (4 years???) but I'm happy to hear a player of your caliber recommend this amp. I'm loving mine (TT-12). Any chance you might be recording anything new for release? Last I've heard is Creekwalk and the stunning Sunny T! You're an inspiration. I trust the steel show went well for you. RR
Now that is country, Goodnold western swing!!
Sounds great and you're king of the chimes. Love your playing
Absolutely awesome tone. Thanks Mike for posting this.
Sooooo good. I love it!
Wearing it SLAP OUT!! better than original...there. I said it..
Top Shelf boys! Cheers! Justin
Great sound!
Awesome Mike as usual. I see there is no reverb on your setting. Where is the reverb coming from ? Thanks.
Thanks John! That's one of my fav reverb plugins, the TC Electronic VSS3...I think it's around $200 and is remarkably easy to use, edit and save. I use the VST version but I believe they offer an Apple ver also.
@@MikeGSmith-tx9sm Thanks for your quick and efficient reply. If you don’t mind, I still have two questions. 1) How good (or bad) is the tb202 reverb compared to yours ? 2) How does the tb202 sound like with earphones ? Thank you again. JS
The onboard digtal verb on the 202 is quite good, but, it's just more or less of it and no ability to change the parameters or store those changes. When I do fly dates and no backline gear is transported for whatever group I'm working with and backline rentals are so-so, I just go direct from the 202 to the house & monitor system and it's fine. When I use my full rig, I carry a single space rack with the TC Electronic G Major 2 efx unit...it has some of the same achieveable verbs as the VSS3 and some of the same algorhythms as the TC Electronic M5000 studio reverb and it was one of the go to studio verbs when I lived/worked in Nashville. More than not, when I go direct live, I'm using IEM's and either use the house or production companies monitor system or I just use my Donner rechargeable, 2-channel IEM amp and simple mixer (I found it has more headroom than the popular Behringer small battery powered IEM amps). With a couple of the tribute act gigs I do and I have all my own gear, I'll still use IEM's but also use my 202 thru the Quilter TT15 cab/spkr (and either go direct or drop a Sennheiser 609 mic over the front of the cab (and a side note: If you use the Low Z XLR output on the back of the 202 for direct purposes while also using the 202 to power a speaker cabinet, you won't have separate control of the direct out level or the speaker level. This year I bought my 2nd 202 and finally read the manual. If you use the front SIG OUT with the toggle switch in the Pre and Line mode and use a quarter inch TRS cable to a DI, you'll have house control via the GAIN knob and separate control of your speaker volume by using the MASTER knob (reading those manuals is a good idea, especially in my case!). Of course, you can also use the FX send and RETURN on the 202 for your own external efx (in my case the TC Electronic G Major 2).
@@MikeGSmith-tx9sm Once more thank you for answering my question #1. Question # 2 was about headphones with the tb 202 for bedroom use and which headphones would you suggest to go with it ? Once again thank you for sharing your knowledge…and talent ! JS
@@johnsluszny1 ...ahhhhh, any decent set of headphones will probably be fine. I formerly outfitted our tracking room with some Audio Technica phones, don't remember the model but they were between $100 and $200 a pair. As for in ear monitors, I finally settled on Etymotic Research ER4XR Extended Response Precision Matched In-Ear Earphones (about $220 on Amazon, the cables are not as hefty as Shures but these sound better and have out lasted the far more expensive Shures.
Touching me deep in my soul...
I know I'm sorta late to the party... But this is just what I needed to hear right now. I grew up in Houston... We'd Honky Tonk every weekend. I sure do miss those days. Cheers, Pardners!
Shoots!
Mike you are a true Badass!
Burning it DOWN
Mike, we need more steel albums from you, and more appearances at the SWSGA show. You're one of the finest, undercover steelers on the planet! Can I get a Skype lesson from you teaching me your unique vibrato? Seriously!!
"Kids Don't try this At Home" Love you Mike.
Fantastic playing and awesome steel tone.
Great band and Mike's steel is killer.
You could play a fence post and make it sound fabulous Mike! Cory from Saskatchewan
This is great stuff Mike, how about a little longer clips, like maybe an Hour, YES!
Man I want one of those.
Crisp mix, Mike! Nice!
Killer vibrato, Señor Miguel!
Great
Aaesome Mike! I just ordered a yone block myself about 30 minutes ago... i also wrote down your knob setting here. Very, VERY nice CLEAN sound. Kudos.
Wow Mike that does sound great, of course it IS you doing the playing... I keep inching closer to one of these.
I just.btoke down and ordered one from.detmore man. 🤣
James Morris Music come into some money?
Sounds amazing. I bought a quilter rack head unit. Along with the travis toy speaker its a match made in heaven...but sounds very good direct out as well
I can't believe I just found this video. You always sound great, but there is always your signature tone IMHO that comes through, no mater what amp you play through. It is impossible to duplicate. Just some other world tone. Love it.
beautiful playing sir
You really got a bunch of nice chops going on there Master!
Great video, great playing, wonderful sound! Me like!
Any speaker emulation from your DAW?
Other than what the 202 can offer via the "Voice" toggle switch, no. I personally have found the FULLQ or the VINT setting to be where I start more than not (kinda depends on the room or sound system or...just my mood : )
Did someone say country? Yeah!!
You've got yourself some pretty nicely composed music there sir
Awesome Mike!
That is a Deckley Pedal Steel he is playing- same fretboard-same no-step key head mounts
Had one vote for an Excel and yours for a Deckley, but...it's a Zum : )
Good band, really fine steel player, cool style.
Super good band. Fantastic pedal steel guitar player.
Killer sound, great playing on that Excel! Post more!
Thanks, but...that would be a Zum : )
Awesome tune and playing - thanks :)
Oh Man, this is so cool, thanks Mike Smith for sharing, I been waiting way too long for this stuff, now to get some practice done with inspiration.
That is some good playing.
I've always love this tune of yours, immaculate technique and tone. Thanks for posting, Miguel!
Mike is for sure the main man around here !!!
Awesome Mike and Teriney!
SOUNDS GREAT
