    Just wanted to say how much I appreciated this video. I’ve been using the Helix for over 4 years and started off by literally going through my old Boss GX700 and copying my gigging patches over, that I’d been playing with for about ten years. Of course, most of these old patches were clean amps with a distortion/drive pedal in front … that was just the way my old GX was set up. I’ve kept my presets and snapshots but edited them using some of your logic e.g. using two amps (clean and dirty) and WOW! After 4 years, the Helix has finally given up its secrets to me!! I’ve even been brave enough to tweak some other parameters because your videos have taken away that fear of editing. Thanks sooo much!!👍

    TOO MUCH PIECES of wood in the neck 😢😢. After 6 years a hit on the head and puffffffff - a piece glued is splitted from the head. Better buy a one piece neck and head guitar like fender player plus etc... To me it looks like PRS is saving money since a three small pieces of wood is always cheaper then a bigger single piece wood . So money is saved here 😢😢 Also any glue has " Life duration after hardening" so glueing msny pieces of wood together eventually seperates and after lets say 10 years getting a hit may create micro fractures in the glue itself . Also humidity may speed up glue degradation over time. I wouldn't trust a neck made of more the 1 piece glued together; especially when there is a truss rod involved. Sorry PRS.😢

    • @bluecollarguitarist
      @bluecollarguitarist Місяць тому

      Can’t say I really agree with you. Structure wise, a laminated neck has the potential to be much stronger and warp resistant compared to a single piece of timber.

    • @7hotfuzz7
      @7hotfuzz7 4 дні тому

      That's exactly the opposite of what happens lol When one piece necks like Gibsons break, a correctly glued repair will be stronger than the original neck. They specifically make multi-piece necks be be stronger, more rigid, and less susceptible to temp & humidity changes. My custom shop jackson with a 1 piece maple neck has carbon fiber rods installed to make the neck more stiff

    • @bluecollarguitarist
      @bluecollarguitarist Місяць тому

      I generally use time based effects after drive sounds so in the loop on a dirty amp or after a dirt box into a clean amp. Sometimes I’ll run modulation effects like chorus in a loop or after a drive but it depends on how “wet” I want it. Hope this answers your question.

    Cool review. Why did you pick this one and not, for instance, the Paul’s guitar?

    • @bluecollarguitarist
      @bluecollarguitarist Місяць тому

      I prefer the location of the three way toggle switch on the McCarty. And just the general “LP” layout of the controls. Coil tapping is something that I have little interest in. So given the choice between separate volume controls and the mini toggles I would pick the volume controls. Also Paul’s guitar is slightly more expensive. And I really didn’t feel like paying over a grand. But they are very similar instruments. Either would be a solid choice for a hard tail guitar.

    • @Lwitkowski

      @@bluecollarguitarist I had to make this decision that’s why I asked. Where I live they are priced the same I think. I would have gotten the Mccarty standard se single cut but the wait times were over 3 months. So I ended up with the Paul’s guitar. I’m happy. It has a bit of a tele sound to it if you wiggle with knobs a bit. Anyway, cool video. I may end up with that 594 at some point :) to scratch that Les Paul itch :)

    I've got the SE in faded blue in video their demo on the PRS website, but isn't in the lineup anymore. Got it for a blowout price from Sweetwater. It was actually a premium color, but was discounted. Great guitar. I also have the new for 2024 S2 model that has all of the components the cores have, rather than being a US built SE without the veneer. So I was able to compare the sounds of an SE to the core electronics, and to be honest, unless you have them side-by-side, the SE is hard to identify and is certainly not sub-par. The tone is slightly darker, but that's something that some people actually want and the difference is minute at best. With a price tag of $2349 v $899, if one really wanted the core pickups, they are readily available on Reverb for $500, so the price would still be $950 higher for the S2. I enjoy the pattern vintage neck profile, which changes as you move up the neck. The one piece neck (scarfed to the headstock), nitro finish, core electronics and pickups, core hardware, and made in USA of the S2 might just be what one is after, but at the end of the day, the SE is a killer deal as well; and either is a more affordable alternative to any core, even at used prices.

    Yes; keep it simple. Good reminder not to get carried away with options. I use only what's in my Helix; nothing extra; and even then it's easy to overdo it and wonder why it sounds like crap simple: once you get the amp, cab and mic placement sounding good, the rest is just extra. The Global EQ is your friend if you're using FRFR / PA. Cheers!

    Ted McCarty said some of the best Gibsons from the 1950s had a 24.594 scale and that's why PRS used the smaller scale. • @bluecollarguitarist
      @bluecollarguitarist 4 місяці тому

      Good question. The main reason is it keeps your sound between your clean and dirty more uniform. The speaker is your last eq before it goes to front of house. If you are using two different speaker and amp combinations it makes it harder for your sound guy.

    Ive been using Helix products for about the same time as you. I recently added a powercab plus which added that element of “amp in the room”. I have been considering buying the HX stomp and building an analog board and using the stomp for amps and delay/reverbs. But I have to say that the Helix has never once failed on stage. It is always consistent. Line 6 is also a top notch company. A few years back the expression pedal of n my Helix LT failed and they shipped me an entire new LT even though it was out of warranty.
