    I haven't seen the other videos but does the rock climber "Owd Sid" get a mention? In his earlier days Sid Thompson's (he's now the late Sid) proud boast was that he'd cycle all the way from Maryport to the Lakes to do a day's climbing in Borrowdale. I started climbing in1986 and Sid was something of a fixture at Shepherd's Crag in Borrowdale back then.

    My family emigrated to the US 320 years ago from Cockermouth. I have traced Thomas Watson to Strawberry How, Cockermouth. I actually visited briefly in 2007 and took a picture of a sign that says Strawberry How. More recently, I have discovered there is a farm named Strawberry How farm further down the road to the east of what I believe was a school, turned housing complex. Can anyone confirm that this property (Strawberry How Farm) once belonged to the Watson family? Does anyone know the current owners? I would like to contact them and see what they know. I believe their last name might be Cook. Thanks.

    You want to focus on housing developments instead of shopping. There no money in the town and a lot of young people with families are moving out because there’s no investment in housing for the past 30 years . That’s the problem, so I believe

    Existence: 1928 - 1940 Chapman Circus was established by George Bruce Chapman (1885-1935) in 1928. George Chapman started as an animal dealer and exhibitor in c.1922 with a collection of animals probably purchased from the estate of animal dealer and naturalist John Hamlyn, who died in 1922. Not coming from a circus background Chapman worked with Fossett Circus to set up the business. In 1933 George Chapman presented a collection of animals at the Bellevue Gardens in Belfast, including two zebras, a pair of lions, a tiger, four Russian bears, one hyena, a few pelicans and a baby Asiatic elephant. In 1934 he became the co-founder of the Belfast Zoo with the Belfast Corporation. The zoo, also known as Bellevue Zoo, because it was built on the Bellevue site, was operated by George Chapman until his death on 15th March 1935. The Chapman business passed to George’s sister Ada Mary Chapman (1880-1965), who continued running Belfast Zoo and the Chapman Circus until 1940 when business was brought to a halt by the Second World War. Animals and equipment were put up for sale at auction and the animals that didn’t sale were moved to Ada’s property in Worcester.

    It's hardly a riot now is it 😂 when people are frustrated they get annoyed when correct procedures are not followed ! So just do the right things ! They have no reply when challenged by councillor Stoddart.

  • @forbiddenforest5327
    @forbiddenforest5327 3 роки тому

    Okay, so Cllr Stoddart and Wilkinson didn't attend the same finishing school as George Osborne and David Cameron, but they look like passionate Cumbrians to me, and they certainly aren't in it for the 160K a year (!) that Mr Seekings achieves following his Doncaster economics degree. You know, this council leader job sounds quite important - shouldn't everyone be able to vote on this as opposed to a random lockdown zoom meeting? Do the two councillors have a point? Could someone at the council please inform me on here if this is allowed. This is my first experience of a council meeting and I can't say I have a huge amount of faith in the process, nor am I confident that this system will work well when spending the huge windfalls Maryport and Workington have had recently.

  • @forbiddenforest5327
    @forbiddenforest5327 3 роки тому

    Genuine question from someone trying to learn more about allerdale structure: how is the leader chosen / put forward? I thought there were lots more independent councillors than Conservative, though Tories have 1 more than Labout? How come a smaller group can suddenly say they're the leader? Simple answer appreciated. I do think all these people want the best for the area, and Zoom is a nightmare for a proper meeting. The two independent chaps clearly feel they are unable to get themselves heard.

    As a resident of Allerdale I am absolutely appalled by the behaviours of some members of the Council during this meeting. They have lost all credibility in my eyes. Disgraceful - take a look at yourselves.

  • @jimgentleman5350
    @jimgentleman5350 3 роки тому

    What an appalling display of arrogance, hostility, incivility and disrespect by some of these councillors. The voting public must be asking themselves whether they are fit and proper persons to hold such office, and I would think it is fair to guess that none of them promised such neanderthal behaviour in their pre-election appeals for votes. As a public sector employee in the UK I am well aware that if I behaved in such a way I would be out of the door so fast my feet would not touch the ground, and quite rightly. Why can elected members behave so appallingly and not face legal sanctions? People have been arrested for less. Well done to the council officers and the majority of the participating councillors who conducted themselves professionally and with dignity in such circumstances.
