Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.
great bike
Hi Chris. Trying to identify my Giant Cypress Mens and women’s bikes. I can’t find them on Giant’s website. Can I send you pics?
Es muy parecida a la trek modelo 7300 que no la hacen más es una lástima ya que son unas bicis liviana para andar
I have a Giant Revel (first model) as well and the bike is simple, no frills, and gets the job done. It's light, shifts nice, and easy to maintain. Mind you, I did pick it up used for $40 and added some new brake pads. The rims have scoring from the last owner not replacing the brake pads but the contact contact area on the rim is still OK. The trigger shifters setup is nice. Not as good as the Deore Rapid Fire on my Marin but good. If the bike gets stolen, it's not a big loss.
For 95% of the bike riders out there disc brakes are really overkill. Unless ones is a serious mountain biker and likes to take on hard core trails side pull brakes are perfectly fine. When I was in Taiwan I had a Merida with hydraulic brakes and the braking system was smooth as silk. Mind you, keeping the system maintained isn't too difficult either. However, I do enjoy the side pull brake system better as I just like to get on my bike and just ride everyday. I had an old Marin Nail Trail with side pull brakes, and Deore LX parts (with Rapidfire shifters) and the Marin was the best used bike I ever owned. I did pay $110 Canadian and loved the Marin for my everyday riding as the Nail Trail was built dirt tough and needed next to zero maintenance. It did get stolen recently but for 5 years of solid biking I have no complaints whatsoever. Disc brakes are just too heavy altogether for most people for what they do and most people aren't serious mountain bikers. Most people are like myself who want something easy to maintain and reliable. Mind you, I only changed the pads once on my Marin during the entire 5 years I owned the bike.
Just finished doing the Carreterra Austral in Chile on mine, a second-hand 2013 model with 38 and 35 tyres, so not so wide. A couple of guys with more expensive bikes smirked a bit at my set-up but the bike did great on pavement and dirt/gravel/ripio. She's a bike that loves rolling, freewheels downhil faster than other bikes.
I have that bike. Bought it in 2007, rode it a few times and stuck it in my garage. Two weeks ago I pulled it out, pumped up the tires, outfitted it with a headlight and some LED taillights, and started riding. After two weeks I think I'm ready for a road bike. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue about these things, as I used to ride a motorcycle
Very helpful vid. I am interested in this bike because of hand issues.
just got this bike back in october 2020 -- i use it mainly for dirt bike paths such as gravel and some rocks and pavement as well. rides very well
Hi, does anyone know what year did the Escape model first came out? Any info on the different yearly models would be appreciated. I am trying to figure out the history and what year my Escape was produced. I got it at a Japanese surplus shop here in the Philippines. Thanks!
Poor audio 🤔
Great review thanks AAA++++getting one of the 29ers tomorrow
The seats on all of these bikes no matter what year. There junk and have to be changed to something easier on the a##.
Looking reasonably road endurance bike I'm 5ft 2 if so what's the cost
I have a Giant Cypress, cool on the 4 stoke engine 👍 ,I actually want to put an electric hub on mine, got any suggestions or advice on either a back e-hub or a front e-hub on witch would b better ?
What size frame is this one? 17,18,19?
*I love the hybrid idea☞>**share4.photo/giantBike?R** I have had a racer for 30+ years. I can sit up now and not hurt my back. The 21 speeds are smooth and easy to reach just adjacent to the handle grips. The high objective rating of a 10 out of 10 by the experts was entirely deserved. The back rack as standard equipment is another plus. Handle grips are sooooo comfortable with an ergonomic design that is not the standard cylindrical shape but rather fits hands perfectly. I can't wait to get home from work to go riding each day!*

Best review on the Cypress.
i paid 40$ for one of these used and strapped a 4 stroke engine on it, its my favorite toy
I had one like this and I’m so happy with it.
Good videos. Thanks for the bike seat today. You were correct, it was for this folding bike: www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1PWTMR?ref_=pe_623860_70668690
what's the widest.tire.u can put on the escape original.rim
How much is it aprox?
About $550
Nice n concise. I have a cypress2 which i literally just dragged out from the backyard after 3 years in the weather (dont ask...im not sure last time i saw it it was in the shed). New seat and grips, dremel to the surface rust and so e wd40 and it rides like new again. Great bike.
My ears hurt.
Can you put full metal fenders on it??
The Giant Escape 3 has internal cables. I can't stand this style of exposing the cables to the rain. Upright handlebars are much safer than drop down handlebars, which are flat out annoying. There's no good place to put my hands, and I dislike riding bent over all the time. With upright handlebars, there is more leverage for turning, which is much safer, especially in city traffic.
I have that bike
20 to 50 miles? Damn, on a hybrid
I believe he meant 20-15.
You can ride this a lot longer than a few miles three or four or one or two hours don't pay attention to this guy I'm buying one in a couple of days he's full of crap other than that it's a great bike
I know this is an old review but I gotta add my 2 cents. I bought a Cypress DX back in 2009 and still have it. I'm 68 years old now and still regularly put up to 20 miles at a time on this bike comfortably. I have a bad back so a road bike is out for me. I would get another bike if I wanted to go further than that, but this bike does everything I need. This guy's claim that the Cypress bike is good for only 5 or 10 miles is ridiculous...
He did not say that, he said that is the most common usage.
I have a Cypress DX I've owned since new, and I love it. I have back problems so unfortunately a road bike is pretty much out for me. I'm good for about 20 miles on this bike which is about as far as I want to go anyway.
How does it compare speed wise to your road bike? I know nothing will be faster than the road bike but I also don't want it be superslow. I love the speed of a road bike but my hands, back, crotch, neck aren't to fond of the position you have to be in to get that road bike speed.
I bought this today for $30 at an auction. I am really excited!!
But giant is awesome
Rajyalakshmi Lakshmi Do u have this gaint escape 2 2018. Can give feedback of it. I interested to buy ths ?
Actually i need a good road bike like scott speedster but couldnt buy
Just bought the Escape 2 City with disk brakes. Very happy with it so far. I might upgrade the saddle and grips as I get sore almost immediately after sitting on it and my hands start getting numb almost immediately too (a factor I have mitigated by starting to wear gloves).
Alejandro De Miranda im thinking about buying this. i want to use it for daily exercise. is it quick? curiouse what the difference between this and a fast road slr. because the slr is a fitness/sport but cost about $1200
Its not as fast as a road bike
Alejandro De Miranda I am interested in buying giant escape 2 2018 can u give a review of it buy used it till pls ?
I would not recommend buying this bike used. It is priced at an entry point price so unless they are selling it at a significant discount from retail, it's just not worth it because a lot of the time when you buy a used bike you have to get it tuned up, maybe replace a part here and there, and given the price point of this bike, by the time you are done, you could have bought it new. As far as my review, I am no expert, but I would not consider it a fast bike. My average speed was 9 mph. It is great for urban riding and commuting. If you are buying it for riding around the city, get disc brakes. The stopping power is good to have if you are sharing the road with cars or other bicycle commuters.
Alejandro De Miranda tanx a lot bro
Well done, thank you for the nice overview of this model
Would you buy this practically brand new for $150? I'm considering buying one. I need an educated opinion.
proud owner😊
Thank you. Very helpful info.
Great video. thanks for info
You forgot to mention that it's a 7 speed freewheel not cassette
One time i sat on my wee wee
Can you ride this on gravel paths?
why wouldnt he reccomend farther distances than and hour or so on this bike?
will this bike work for a 6'4 390 pound man looking to ride for fitness and to get in shape
Richard Johnson Yes. Great bike for exercise. You might want the XL size frame to fit for you and pump up the tires to support your weight. Then you're set.
You FAT SLOB!!!
R n
that is not the Giant Cypress, since it has a suspension fork. It must be the Giant Cypress DX.
It is 2011 model. And it's not a DX
I bought a Giant Cypress DX in 2015 and regularly ride 20-40 miles a day on it, 3-5 days a week. I once did 60 miles on it in 5 hours. The upright riding position is easier on my back and wrists, and the added comfort more than makes up for any wind resistance (of concern to racing cyclists only, as wind resistance will tire you more easily and cut your time). Since my biking is more for exercise and to get out in the fresh air and sunshine, and not competitive or time or distance oriented, it makes sense to buy a bike that allows me to be more comfortable on it longer.
yep agree. for me a road bike is more comfortable for longer rides, better on the bum better on the back. being faster is a nice side effect
I just bought one too. Soo comfy.
