They're very reminiscent of Santana, but they are excellent in their own right.

I researched this song and it was composed by an African-American composer named Gerald Wilson. Mr. Wilson was originally from back East but moved to the Los Angeles area back in the day where he met and married a Mexican woman. She used to take him to the bullfights in Tijuana and apparently Mr. Wilson developed a liking/admiration for a bullfighter by the name of Jose Ramon Tirado. He composed the song in his honor. I personally can't see composing a song in honor of a bullfighter because I'm an animal rights advocate, but I have to admit that this song is phenomenal and the rendition by El Chicano is just fabulous - bullfighting aside. They knew what they were doing, for sure!

I wish that they put the recording or performance date of songs posted in UA-cam. It gives you an idea of the culture taking place around the time the song came into being.
