If you think it's too late, or everything was going great and then - boom - it all fell apart, life - money - faith, or you think you don't have the time or the skills for a successful do-over, the Do-Over Show is your answer.
Why? Because it's not too late… it might not be easy, but it's not too late for you. I've been there - just like you - and I'm here to show you how. I'm a Ph.D. who was a high school drop-out. I'm a college professor, researcher and writer, consultant and fundraiser for world-changing missions, and an investor, day-trader with stocks, options and forex.
Hired and fired, downsized and rebuilt careers, gambled and lost hard-earned money and built money into wealth again... I've found the ways out... and you can too.

Faculty Interviewing in Higher Education
The Ugly Duckling. There was a video that turned this fable into a horror story. From that video and others, I learned not to mess with others.
The video is excellent once we get past the distracting Japanese cartoon snippets. I've been submitting my resume to online positions with no success for 3-4months. The networking angle seems obvious now, and I will try this way.
Thanks for the video! Very informative! What is your full-time job? 👊😊👊
No other job has tenure. End it.
There are partnerships and practices with similar retention practices, but you're correct about education (even primary grade educators in many districts and unions have tenure practices).
Be a little cautious with the numbers. Some of the enrollment numbers are from Ghost students. My college got hit fall 2024 -- inflated enrollment big time. Look up what happened to California community colleges - nearly 20% of their students were ghosts.
I do just that...tell them I know they will not read. I give them total summaries of the chapters. They still dont take advantage of the summaries, and encourage use of AI, I actually show them the tools in AI they can use to help. Some will some won't all I can do is keep on trying. Your content is very helpful. Thank You!
Thank You, any suggestions for getting the technical readers going?
Have you tried asking/letting/showing them to use AI for summaries, take-away's, maybe answer some directed questions - and ask them to do a one-pager for each reading section? I've used that with some success with technical readers...
I love this! I recently became an adjunct and trying to pivot. I feel under the allure of prestige in academia and art musuems. I was met with disslusionment and unlike the gatekeepers who have trust funds and partners, I have neither. I regret taking this job, but given the economy and how rigid/biased employers are, I could not afford a resume gap and moved back home. I also rejected a curator job, becuase the pay was unlivable at $40k. This part time gig became a full time gig, while I’m being sent to teach dual (high school) kids in rural settings. I was met with disillusionment, with my art history and fashion background. I was this close to pivoting with a remote job as a grants writer, the salary was very doable with benefits. I find academia to be very stifling, conservative, and dusty. Many of my colleagues have full time jobs at high school that pay them $60k a year and the adjuncting is supplement for ego, visibility, and credibility. I’ve been underemployed ever since I graduated grad school, I’m 31 and and feel stuck/hopless. Pivoting, pivoting, pivoting. Prestige and romantic theories are nothing for me. I love your channel because many academics do not disclose these harsh realities, instead were met with unwritten rules, gatekeepers, and secret agendas. :/ I want to quit lol.
So many people think college isn't worth it and they end up making echo chambers together. They might be in for a rude awakening in the coming years.
Or, they'll be villains to all those they steered away from higher ed. who could have benefitted?
*_Are you considering college? Or do you regret going (or maybe just your major)??_*
Do you know what to look for on a syllabus?
I am not a naive speaking of English but I really want to be adjunct job in psychology or religion. What is your advice? Thank you!
The language isn't the biggest problem you'll have to face - what is your educational background? have you taught before? does the college/university offer a course in your topic? and do they need someone to adunct? The best way to discover answers to these questions is to look at the current course offerings at a college/university - is your field on there? have you taught any of these courses? do they hire adjuncts? Discover those answers and you'll know if they might want someone like you... and be sure to talk to the department chair as far in advance as possible.
*_Everyone has an opinion - I have the numbers (and reasons) why you should consider college if it's possible!_*
What was your first job? And did you like it??
*_Accelerate compound interest the smart way! How do you make time = money math work for you?_*
oh penny stocks can be fun, with FU money. At 16 I almost ended up owning an airline (this was not in the US). Did eventually loose my entire investment (about $500 in 1986).
@@anderspedersen6750 Okay, that’s a great story - and illustrates how penny stocks can make us feel…
Good vide. Surprised there aren't more views.
Appreciate it - share with your friends!
Hi, how are you? Would you like to start a new UA-cam channel together and make money from it? I'll handle all the channel's work, including video editing. Your only job will be to provide voiceovers. I'll send you the script, and you can record it with your phone in your nice voice and send it back to me. I'll edit the video with your voice and then publish it on the channel
*_Fearing 'it's too late' is a killer in investing and do-overs! What scares YOU the most about investing?_*
Thank you for making time to post
TY
*_Thank you - and what have you learned that will make you better in the new year?_*
Did you miss it? What are you gonna do about it??
Im 62 and wanna teach construction project management .. does that make any sense
Yes! Start at a community college, make sure you have some demonstrable experience (maybe a certification is the community college utilizes certs). Look at current course offerings. Find out who the department chair is (dept. chairs do the adjunct hiring usually). Contact the chair well in advance of the semester's planning - 9 months is the average, some work ahead 1 year! And check out this video for more details about how to get started: ua-cam.com/video/xDxL8WnUlAc/v-deo.html
Thanks to AI, a take-home exam is now a complete joke. It's not skills-based, when all someone has to do is take a photo of the exam, and the computer generates the entire solution with no intellectual input from the student. That is, unless you can out-wit the AI when writing the exam, and write an exam that only a human can pass.
Good luck doing this with something like coding. As a Computer Science Instructor we always try to give these "thought provoking and application" style exams, however CGPT and it's ilk means that this is impossible and we have moved more and more of our points to in class exams because students cheat on homework which is this style of exam in our case. But, most fail to even be able to code simple problems.
My question is - if a LLM AI can answer your questions, then are your questions reflective of the skills that should be developed in the course? If truly that is the case, then is not the future-looking method to teach on the use of these tools for these purposes?
@@bluerendar2194 What is there even to teach about how to use these tools, other than copy and paste?
@@stevengilland4524 My point exactly. And about LLM's being used by students in whatever testing context - maybe 1 in 1000 will make the extra effort, maybe 1 in 100 at better universities, maybe 1 in 10 at MIT - the reality check is, well, real...
@@bluerendar2194 Okay, I hear you on AI and THE's - but is there a way beyond this that doesn't become remedial? I've heard profs encouraging/requiring students to use AI and then evaluating how they applied AI in the execution of skills-based exercises - what do you think?
Just submitted my final set of grades as I end my teaching career of 43 years, 25 in higher ed. Just done with the whole thing 😏
Nothing like the feeling of submitting final grades - I'm grading papers now... But you've had a good run - well done and thank you for teaching... you've made a difference in student lives (sometimes we just don't know how).
I really love your channel, because my father was also a college professor, aeronautics, sending my greetings from the Philippines 🇵🇭
@@ruelbasilio3634 Wow - I really am glad you found me and my channel!
*_Do you LOVE take home exams?_*
If you teach online, they're all take home exams 😅
@@kburkes4245 Yes- but are they just in-class exams proctored (most online courses are stuck in the 20th century with a little tech thrown in)?
UA-cam is how most newcomers to the workforce actually learn how to do their job - not in college or university - what's your experience?
Liberal nerd,
I think you have a booger in your nose
As an employer I will not be hiring anyone who went to college. Because indoctrinated people like this or what's wrong with schools. College is just a big scam.
Wow, it's nice to have that luxury... I take it you didn't go to college? (Or, if you did, you've had an epiphany about college being a scam??). So unless your one of the Fortune 500 who pay 6 figures for college grads, I take it you compensate your employees just as well... The BLS stats are still strong - www.bls.gov/emp/chart-unemployment-earnings-education.htm
Started to hate teaching.. and hate getting old 😊
I get it, but that's unfortunate...
Im 62 an pathetically pursuing a higher ed teaching career
@@hashemconsult pathetically? Do it unapologetically because you have more real world knowledge and awareness than most tenured professors who never ‘worked’ for a living!
Im 62, pathetically exploring higher ed teaching opportunities in Canada
Do you know a GOOD nonprofit?
God has me in my profession for a reason. I know this, but it's definitely not much money, however, I love my students and I love teaching.
I only teach two classes and I have two kids at home. It's crazy how little it pays but my husband supplements what I lack and I have a second job. I do love what I do though.
They are running their colleges and universities on the backs of adjuncts. Regular faculty should stop this but they don’t because they only care about themselves and they think they are superior
That hasn’t changed in two decades.
@@ElizabethRichter-o6u Yikes! (But true!)
*_If you DO use the syllabus to plan your work, are you the only one?_*
@JamesCallahanTheDoOverShow that could have been true. Most students in the class were just that. I had a full-time job and I need to plan my time.
I never did not read the syllabus. I always started the final project as soon as possible. Then, if I had questions, the professor had time to answer questions, and any revisions could be made and the paper typed and turned asap.
You might be the only one?!
The best decision I ever made was to stop pursuing a career in music after my bachelor’s degree and start a career in software engineering. This would have been me.
Close all the Universities. It's an obsolete system. Universities are full of administrators who make tons of money and do no work.
Baby with the bath water approach?
Bluntly, this comes down to an overproduction of academics, especially in a shrinking market.
Yes - and universities with non-funded/scholarship grad programs feed the delusion/romanticism of higher ed teaching... but they make so much money on grad programs (with no room/board burden) - just $$$$ - the business model is still appealing to Boards (and the Trustees run the higher ed business model). You put it bluntly and accurately!
Ive said for years that as part of the degree declaration process, universities should have to relate the average salary and employment prospects for the degree sought, especially if a student loan is involved.
@@WhizzingFish12 - it's what academia doesn't tell you, but they know very well - how much you can expect to make in any profession a college/university is designed to prepare you for - check out my video on this for the numbers - ua-cam.com/video/0Z-ag7V5_PE/v-deo.html
Americans only think about 'free markets'. Which do not exist. That is why in the South people eat poisonous fast food and candy and everyone thinks it is okay. They are more worried about the food pyramid and its promotion of grains as a threat to public health.
"Shrinking markets" isn't the catastrophe that you think it is
Very Interesting
This man really tells it like it is, academia is way more brutal than its often portrayed in pop culture. My heart goes out to all those academics who didn't know how cutthroat the system actually was until it was too late. All we can do is enter the field as prepared as we can be.
They did that, though I was taught not to lie. Perhaps, I ought to learn cya….don’t know if I can do that! I guess I can try!🥳
Excellent advice!
Phenomenal video!
Incredible insight
