Irish No-Wave Provocateur Skinner Discusses His Debut Album "New Wave Vaudeville"
In Episode 210 of The XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar speaks with Irish No-Wave Provocateur Skinner about his debut album, New Wave Vaudeville.
Skinner kicks off 2025 with the release of his highly anticipated debut album, New Wave Vaudeville. The project of Dublin-based multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer Aaron Corcoran, Skinner draws inspiration from the New York No Wave scene of the late '70s and early '80s. New Wave Vaudeville pays homage to the eclectic "New Wave Vaudeville" music variety freak show at New York's 57 Club from 1978 to 1983.
Known for its unrestrained art performances and debaucherous energy, the 57 Club offered a wild counterpoint to the growing commercialization of modern culture-a spirit perfectly mirrored in the rambunctious and free-spirited sound of Skinner's debut collection.
In this episode, Skinner discusses the writing and recording process behind New Wave Vaudeville, his upcoming shows, and much more.

John Giblin was the best by far!
Thank you all for listening; if you could do me a favour, hit subscribe and turn notifications on, it helps us more than you know.
The fact the minds were from Scotland made me appreciate them even more
Anton is my hero. Thank you for this interview.
Tony wrote the songs so of course he got more money and while some people might say he wouldn't have been as successful wouldn't Brian singing at least if he'd gone just into songwriting he wouldn't have had to put up with Brian's crap. Brian ruined their chances, nobody else but him. He was a disaster then, he is now. Tony enjoy your wealth mate cause after dealing with Brian Harvey you deserve it. I also never liked Brian's voice that much
Thank you all for listening; if you could do me a favour, hit subscribe and turn notifications on, it helps us more than you know.
30:00 wow Anton (a man who has made a living leeching off a brian jones image) yet again criticising other musicians for copying other bands
Seems a bit cognitively off... since his heart attack. Still in recovery. Not disagreeing, but it's Anton being Anton, maybe we should cut him some slack...
No one compares to Brian.
I’m glad it fell apart because if it didn’t we probably wouldn’t have the great records suede have made over the past 10 years.
She was such a dream girl, an it-girl back in the day.
Thank you all for listening; if you could do me a favour, hit subscribe and turn notifications on, it helps us more than you know.
Me encantan sus canciones GAVIN FRIDAY 😺👍👍❤️ I LOVE YOU GAVIN FRIDAY IS
John Giblin was the real Bass playing legend of Simple Minds
An American original. Luv AN - epic dude
Sounds very jealous here.
Doesn’t seem jealous to me here. If anything he said they’ve already made a perfect record and can’t top it. He pretty much said he’s never made a perfect record so can just kinda do whatever he wants and it doesn’t matter.
Big fan of the band and John and never had any interest in watching the series, cmon who could ever play John?
I am a big fan. But i disagree with him about masks and vaccines. No one wants people to die from illnesses.
Hi @thexsnoizepodcast The intro music for this show know that has the start of Mansun - Things Keep Falling Off 'Buildings' and the Paul Draper solo track - Paul Draper: "Internationalle" Am i right? ;) Mark Millar ;) Mansun - Things - Keep Falling Off Buildings - ua-cam.com/video/BToIorq-V7s/v-deo.html Paul Draper - ua-cam.com/video/eINyXdckby8/v-deo.html
Hi, yes, you are right. I asked Paul Draper if he could do an intro for the podcast, and he recorded that version of "Internationale" especially for the show.
Met Anton a couple times & chatted. Real nice guy, decent sort & a good sense of humour. I recall also sat chatting with him in 8mm bar & he was pretty clued up on the intricacies/conflict in Ireland. A smart lad, nice to hear & that he's bounced back from illness. ☘
I'd recommend the 1st Edition by PiL. I bought it back in 1980.
Saw them 4 times in the early 80's - always epic...
Ughhhhh stop saying “epic”. Most overused word along with another one I won’t mention. I’m sure it was magnificent but not epic. Good lord
When he got back for Neapolitan he didn’t bring back his contribution, for me
Is it just poor quality audio or does Anton sound a bit different? Especially the "s" sounds.....
Anton was moving around his home during the interview, so sometimes the audio quality dips in and out. We did our best to make sure the audio quality was the best it could be. You can understand everything Anton says.
Tony took it up the bum still does😂
No one will sing stay another day like Brian any one who tries will ruin the song
Brian wants to know where all the money went! After all these years and you let a bandmate sleep on a mattress on the floor? That's incredibly sad 😔
Blinding interview! The Thompson Twins were the best group of the 80's for me and i still, and always will, listen to their albums. This interviewer is very good and didnt ask the same usual questions. Wicked!!
Thanks very much, but what was the "Bomb" comment all about?
Well done Tony. You are a star and a fantastic lyricist. Keep smiling. Having worked in mental health in the therapy team, I can attest to the power of creative therapy, including musicals, in helping people work through their life experiences. A fantastic charity to support - Jamie, on behalf of all of the team at JLTV Digital.
A bit like your belly 😂
Never be the same without Brian he made that band what it was now it’s E1 because there is only one member left and Tony is minted while the rest have nothing mmmmmmmm
True but Tony deserves some credit for sacrificing his arse to Tom Watkins to give E17 the foot up in the industry.
@@DecepticonVibez 🤦♂️ 😂
Brian was east 17.
and tony made all the money 😂
@ITSONLYUA-cam-p3p that's the point .he wouldn't have made it without Brian's vocals.
@@melgrant7404 tony is obviously smarter than brian
@ITSONLYUA-cam-p3p not smarter but luckier.
@@melgrant7404 and considerably wealthier
That Tom Watkins sounds like a dodgy geezer...
Be nice to hear Brian back singing.
Stay another day and we wish our loved ones to never fade away❤
Always loved Sarah's vocal performances on St. Etienne songs. Great to see she's still recording.

Tony wrote some good songs.. but let's face it brian harveys voice is what made them stand out..
Screwed Brian over like 👎🏼
Not at all. Tony wrote the song, and was wise with his money. Brian had the money, but wasted it on drugs.
@ screwed Brian over like 👎🏼
This guy is so weird lol
It’s the same as WHAM Last Christmas was released in April it wasn’t a Christmas song.

He desperately needs to work with Brett again - neither of them are as good without each other - the tears was better than anything either of them had done after suede - it’s ridiculous they don’t re converge
Absolute nonsense comment! have you not heard the last 4 suede albums? they have been excellent. The tears were rubbish ! I am so glad that project failed because without it we would never have got suede back together. Listen to suede’s last album Autofiction can you honestly say the tears is better than that?
Agreed. Complete nonsense. Brett and Bernard were only ever going to be a short term collaboration. 2 wonderful albums but that was that.
@@PD-fh4wj I wouldn’t want him back in suede he acts like they don’t even exist anymore. I personally think Oakes and codling have done a marvellous job.
@@mojopin1997 I saw BB live last year and will again next week. Last year he made a comment about bands and bands splitting up and made a rather pointed comment, which I think was directed at Suede. He needs to let go of this bitterness imo.
Peece..
