Is Skull and Bones Worth FULL PRICE? Skull and Bones Review
Is Skull and Bones worth full price? Is Skull and Bones a $60 title, a $90 title, or one you should wait to pick up once it goes on sale? This is a Skull and Bones review in full, so sit back and enjoy my thoughts now that the game is in full release.
Skull and Bones is an open-world naval combat multiplayer game where you become a pirate as you rise from an outcast to a kingpin. Players can gain Infamy and progress by taking on contracts either solo or as a group of up to three.
Wind positioning can be assessed to gain an advantage in battle. Players may collect additional ships throughout the game, such as sloops-of-war, frigates and brigantines, whose weapons include mortars, broadside cannons, and rockets. Ships can be charged into with brute force and boarded.

    "Eat it, pointy eared nerds.." love it. Baine doesn't have a fraction of the back bone his father had. And maybe that is why they did it. With Baine they can bend and manipulate the story in their favour and Baine will not oppose it. Where as Cairne, who had the where-with-all to unite the tribes, would not have had it in his character to withstand or uphold the direction the Horde was taken. The Tauren one of if not the oldest race on Azeroth I am so thankful for the video. I am really enjoying your Lore vids

    When was Curse of flesh first mentioned? Because as I recall in vanilla the lorekeeper states titans created life forms from "standard biomass" with the exception of the earthen, and dwarves merely reversed to being identical to standard biomass creations. And wowpedia curse of flesh page only refers to the Chronicle and other post Wrath sources. Great series btw, classic lore should be preserved, and retcons documented

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation Місяць тому

      So by name, I think "Curse of Flesh" wasn't introduced until early Wrath. HOWEVER the whole matrix instability discussion and how earthen were essentially devolved into flesh-like creatures comes directly from the end of Uldaman in late 2004 and I believe gives the Curse of Flesh a solid foundational start.

    sorry but the official first druid is Malfurian According to Micky Neilson and Blizzard historians, the first druid was, in fact, Malfurion Stormrage, not the Tauren.[1] Nethaera at one point pointed out that "like all history, it tends to be from the perspective of the writer", and that while the Tauren believe they were the first druids, the night elves were the first druids.[2] Thus, Forestlord and the first Druids falls into the category of flavor lore. This matter is touched upon and mentioned in Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor where Zekhan is aware of Cenarion Circle declaring Malfurion as the first druid, while tauren myths claim otherwise.[3]

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation Місяць тому

      In regards to Micky Neilson, I can't find what you're references, you need to provide specific links to support that. I will say, I respect a lot of what Micky Neilson did or tried to do with World of Warcraft, and understand he went through some serious struggles trying to get things done correctly, so I'll respect what he has to say. In regards to Nethaera, she's a community manager and forum moderator. While I don't discount the hard work she put in to her job with Blizzard, she isn't a legitimate accurate source of Lore information. In addition, she didn't join Blizzard until 2006, and I would assume never privy to any of the writing done between 2001 and 2004. In regards to Exploring Azeroth: Kalimdor, that was published in 2022, and as I've said on this channel previously, not only do I discredit most of the books in their entirety, but this channel is focused strictly on older, more well cemented lore, not later writings that have seen multiple layers of retcons and contradictions. With that in mind, I feel solid in my findings that in 2004-2005 lore, the first druids were Tauren. Based on what you provide from Micky Neilson I will reconsider that position, but in regards to the rest of what you presented, I find they don't change my thoughts.

    In early iterations of the Paladin class Kevin Jordan has talked about how they wanted to have Blessings be very powerful but short duration buffs you use on your allies (he didn't say this but I figure that things like the Blessings of Protection, Freedom and later Sacrifice are remnants of this system) however this playstyle really didn't work well which is why they made blessings 5min long buffs (later 15) and be less impactful.

    World of Warcraft Paladin Argument: In Warcraft 1 Orcs and Humans the most elite unit for Humans was the knight. Then in Warcraft 2 the paladin was an upgraded knight with holy powers, a holy knight. In regards to their lore the knights of Loerdaeron were lacking holy powers, and the clerics of Loerdaeron were lacking the great martial prowess of a medieval knight, the paladins were recruited from the ranks of both and trained in what they were lacking, all became holy knights at the end of it. Mounted, heavily armed and armoured knights with holy powers of the light - Holy Sight, Exorcism, and Lay on Hands. This was the epitome of the paladin as it has been portrayed in Warcraft over the years, it never got better than this, the paladin from Diablo wasn’t even as good as he lacked a warhorse and lance, which he should have had. Then in Warcraft 3 Blizzard reimagined things again, and the chivalrous types of units for the alliance humans were divided into three units, the elite and mounted knight, the paladin hero unit, and the mounted crusader who was scrapped from the game during development. Blizzard made the paladin a special hero unit and planned for the knight to be separate with a special knight called the crusader as another separate and more special unit also. Then in World of Warcraft Blizzard watered down these unit concepts and amalgamated some of the abilities and characteristics into a watered down paladin rpg class that was clearly designed to be light and ‘accessible’ to the mundane average man player base. Look at the epic dialogue of the paladin in Warcraft 2 and 3: “Defending your honour.” “At your service my liege.” “For the king.” “Touch me not I am chaste!” These are all heavy, chivalric, pious and holy characterisations that go way over the heads of the average mundane WoW player, to put it simply they cannot handle heavy concepts in a video game, and the meaning and gravitas goes way over the heads of the majority. The crappiness of the WoW paladin and beyond was for financial reasons, and the mundane American hates monarchs and nobility, hates religion, and laughs at concepts such as chivalry and proper conduct. It is the land of Indiana Jones wannabes who shoot the other guy holding a sword from a distance with a gun and wear a smug self important look on their faces afterwards. Personally I think the paladin in WoW should have been a mounted knight who is restricted to using a sword, lance and a hammer or mace, and whose holy powers healed allies and destroyed the undead, he would be a heavily armoured mounted tank/damage dealer with lesser healing abilities as well as commander abilities. The term ‘paladin’ comes from the twelve peers of the emperor Charlemagne, from ‘The Matter of France’ a massive collection of epics, poems and songs, most of which haven’t been translated into English even, we only have ‘The Song of Roland’, and a few others. The twelve peers or paladins of Charlemagne formed the basis for what the medieval knight of France, England, and Europe would become in subsequent centuries. The Order of the Silver Hand was to an underlying degree clearly based on the chivalric orders of the High Middle Ages, the Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaler, The Teutonic Order, and the others. The Jedi from Star Wars are influenced and based on eastern culture, religion and philosophy by the way, and only called ‘knights’ within the mythos to draw recognition from western audiences who only have a pop culture understanding of such things at best. Uther the Lightbringer’s line about forgoing vengeance was incredibly weak, incompetent, and nonsensical in such a situation where barbaric marauders were kidnapping the peasantry and sacrificing them to demons, the only sensible and also morally obligated recourse for this was that the orcs all had to die for being irredeemably evil. If Charlemagne and his Carolingian Empire, or otherwise known as the Holy Roman Empire, had had such a soft touch on the pagans who also worshipped demons (research Karl Jung Paranormal Theories) then we wouldn’t even have a modern and advanced society today, Europe would have simply collapsed in anarchy and been overrun by foreigners. Blizzard’s crap on the paladin archetype started with Warcraft 3 and only got worse from then on. It is a shame that they were simply unable or unwilling to deal with serious and important, as well as noble themes within the Warcraft franchise.

      I genuinely hope this is satirical, because to suggest "For the King!" is too heady for most WoW players is a bit ridiculous. I don't think at any point during your superiority-complex-ridden post did you stop to think how basic the "concepts" you are talking about are. Chivalry, feudalism, etc. are all things taught to *children* in grade school and early high school. Please, get over yourself. P.S. - No, western audiences are now and were then quite aware of terms like samurai, ninja, bushido, etc. The Jedi were *partially* influenced by eastern religion and philosophy, as far as the mystical side of the Force went. They were not copies of any and were not influenced by only them, but also by medieval knights of western culture as well. And, when it comes down to it, 'Jedi Knight' rolls off the tongue a lot better than 'Jedi Bushido' or 'Jedi Samurai' or 'Jedi Ronin'.

       No, I was not writing a satire, there is nothing even remotely satirical in what I have written explaining the undercurrents of the issue and why it is such a human failure of cultural decency and a byproduct of modern degeneracy. As I have already said the average American knows almost nothing about feudal Europe and then goes and watches some atheistic pornographic degenerate fantasy nonsense like Game of Thrones and thinks that must have been what it was like. America is a corrupt society with a foundational culture of seeing itself as superior to its European predecessors. And for the record I own more than thirty books about the Middle Ages from the time of Charlemagne through the era of the crusades and the High Middle Ages. After American society industrialised they started worshipping consumerism by promoting the family above god instead of god above all, and started heretical protestant practises of using god to promote the father in a family as the highest authority within a community instead of the church. The bible states clearly it is best for both man and woman to be either chaste or celibate and wholly devoted to god’s purpose, but if you cannot overcome your base nature then you must be married, anything else is adultery and a sin. The holy official is above the married man or woman in a proper society. This correct version of the biblical scripture essentially would destroy consumerism and the corrupt hierarchy of American society from its foundation, and so Blizzard dared not actually give the public something real and actually holy. Morality as it is known comes from god and Christ’s church, even the corrupted degenerate atheist subjective morality taking over society today is derived originally from Christianity. You atheists love to pander to eastern religions and philosophies from a distorted lense that was originally derived from Christian morality, if you actually had to live in one of these pagan societies you so love you would be horrified, and likely enslaved, and possibly used as a human sacrifice. In fact your promotion of degeneracy is eventually going to lead to civilisation collapse. The Warcraft 2 Paladin was objectively the best Paladin Blizzard ever put into a video game, and they even had crosses on their breastplates, and the icon for using their ‘Holy Vision’ power was the double headed eagle crest of The Holy Roman Empire, derived from Charlemagne’s heraldry itself. Lastly, the Jedi have nothing in common with feudal knights and Europe. George Lucas is a self loathing liberal atheist who made the Europeans the bad guys and every other culture the good and ‘enlightened’ peoples. The Jedi ARE based on eastern religions and philosophies such a deism (duality, light side/dark side, good and evil creator deities), and Buddhism (the suppression of emotions and desires=what the Jedi never shut up about).

    As someone who has been a lore nerd since Burning Crusade, to the point that I learned how to play RTS games just to see the old Warcraft games, read their manual and became a walking encyclopedia of wow history, this is the most interesting and in-depth look at Tauren and their society. Right down to how their society functions. I would love to know where this information was sourced or if it's conjecture - if it is, frankly I don't really care because it's interesting conjecture.

    I main Tauren on the Horde, and Draenei on the Alliance. Not because of the hoofs, but their respect for natural balance and ethics. Both of these races are 2 of the 4 most dismissed and downright abandoned ones in lore importance. Counting with Gnomes and Goblins.

    Excellent episode. I agree with all of your points here just like the Tauren episode. I agree that at the very least the developers could have shown why the order chose to deviate from blunt weapons as well as using the light defensively/support only to offensively and against the living. A quest chain similar to DK starting quests would have been awesome.

    I agree 100% with your points. Cairne Bloodhoof is my favorite Horde leader and yes his story arc and that of the Tauren was woefully under-developed. It is sad what Blizzard did. I played WoW from 2006- until right before Legion came out.I love playing him in Warcraft Rumble now.

    Looking back at this video, I actually greatly disagree with Arcane magic being similar to mathematics. By this theory, intelligence and logical thinking would be the key to unlock the true potency of Arcane magics. In a sense, if you have tha capacity for precision, and are intelligent enough, the path to becoming the most powerful mage is through discipline and experimentation. However, this isn't always the case in the game. There are a lot of Ogre mages, even though they are quite a stupid race, so its questionable how could they even master the magic arts. Azshara, the greatest mortal mage who ever lived on Azeroth, is described to have been just naturally talented in the Arcane. Humans are also said to have great affinity for magical powers, and that is why they are soo good at it. These examples don't necessarily show any similarities to science, and the most powerful wizards on Azeroth weren't necessarily hyperintelligent, or had a superior knowledge of magic. Medivh inherited her mother's powers, which was given to the Guardians by other mages. Azshara also reinforces this example. If we want to bring up the Eredar, they were described as a race of geniuses, yet none are contenders to the Kal'dorei queen. If Azshara is this powerful, shouldn't she also have like 500 IQ and be the smartest mortal ever? These examples are present in the more modern WoW story, but I think its fair bringing them up, as you also did the same for your argument. So overall, it seems you have to born into power to become a great mage, natural affinity opens a path to much greater potency.

    • @TheDanNation
      @TheDanNation 6 місяців тому

      I'm gonna be honest, I disagree with a lot of what you're saying here. It feels like you're approaching this from a very retail perspective. There's a massive difference between being smart, and being intelligent. Also, you're entirely discounting people with natural affinities for these sorts of things, there's savants born in this day and age who are practically walking calculators. Ogre magi are an artificial construct still during the time of Warcraft 2, 3, and World of Warcraft Vanilla. They only exist because Guldan imprinted runic magics into select ogres, making ogre magi. Their intelligence doesn't even enter into it until you look at much later generations of ogre magi, which as we see IN WoW Vanilla, use a lot of very basic spells such as fireball, and non arcane magics like bloodlust. As for Azshara, A. Not a mortal, she's maintained her immortality. B. Easily supercedes having to go through the motions of any arcane magics. She isn't learning, she's literally written the book on some forms of arcane energy uses, so saying she fundamentally breaks anything I've postulated here is ignorant of you to say the least. Same with Medivh, Aegwynn, and the general thread of the Guardians of Tiristfal. Yes they have IMMENSE arcane power handed down from person to person, but it took the most powerful of the Kirin Tor to set up this chain of events in the first place, construct the spells, and imbue them into the Guardian, along with performing the rituals to hand them down. You bring up these examples, but it's clear these examples don't break the rules, they absolutely follow the baseline concept that Arcane magics are build on a basis of mathematics that, even to the layperson could be taught and built upon. You don't need to be born into magic to be able to use it, although it can clearly help as I mentioned earlier. You're welcome to disagree but you're nonsensical posturing and language is very transparent and hollow in this regard.

      @@TheDanNation Because quite frankly, there isn't much regarding magic in the original Warcraft games (or early WoW for that matter). Their world building is surface level at best. What they do explain is great and all, but not enough. These games were mostly about gameplay, where the story began to take wings. There is almost no difference between smartness and intelligence, but thats kind of irrelevant to what my point is. Azshara is a mortal, night elves became immortal because of the world tree, otherwise they are just extremely long-lived. Malfurion confirms this in Warcraft 3 as well. I also meant mortal in the sense that she isn't a supernatural being. But again, irrelevant to my argument. If Arcane really is math, that means you have to be at least a little intelligent to even use it. Similar to math, if you don't practice and learn, you won't get better at magic. Yet Azshara is simply born to be the most powerful wizard on Azeroth, nobody comes close to her. That is an irrefutable inconsistency with your theory. You really just have to swap out magic with actual math, and the idea no longer makes sense. I also think that your views are kind of headcanon-y at this point, as there is no clear order. You said you won't be taking the books and comics into the picture, yet you do with Chronicles. You also said the sources you will use for this series are from the Warcraft games up until WotLK, yet there are clearly some exceptions there too. It seems to be less and less concrete, and more like picking out some parts that you favor, and discard the ones you don't. If you try to explain things factually, you should remain factual and concrete for the rest of the series.

      @@user-ho5jt4hj5h First off, I specify constraints and context for each video right after my intros, and if you can't handle a little granularity in that then you have bigger problems than just the inability to form an argument. Second off, if you feel there wasn't world building or development during the RTS games or Vanilla WoW, I invite you to return to the in your face, over the top, bullshit filled retail experience, the exit is on your left and please let the door hit you on the way out.

What little was, still didn't stop them from committing large mistakes in map making later on either. You shouldn't mindlessly praise the older Warcraft lore, like if its just simply better in every way imaginable than retail. It was more solid thematically, but this franchise has problems dating back to the very beginning.

    When you decide to create a fantasy world, you should do so in a constructive way, you must lay the concrete foundations of the races, cultures, wildlife and landmasses. With this logical method of worldbuilding, you will have quality setting by the end. These mistakes are the exact reason for why I believe this was never done in the case of Warcraft. The writers only did parts of it, but not the entirety, which shows the lack of professionalism surrounding the lore of the franchise as a whole. This is also why I believe the original version also wasn't simply better than what came after. It was fractured, with the overall world not being complete, and the later additions were often inconsistent or outright contradictory, even with this half-done original version. Just look at the locations in WoW, even as of now, we don't know how some of these zones really look like. In the actual world I mean, because in-game things are different. The closest thing we've got to this so far was in the Saurfang cinematics of BfA, where we could see Nagrand and Orgrimmar in their "true" form.
