      Perhaps not their finest vintage, but a delight nevertheless. I drink their Bourgogne Blanc and white Maranges regularly and absolutely love them. Their BBs last for 6 to 8 years generally without issue. More than half Folatières now owned by a Hong Kong investment vehicle allied to Ficofi...

    Can I order from behind you a can of Thatchers cider and a magnum of Trevallon. I had a 1993 Maris Faiveley last month which was delicious, I would suggest your bottle might have been mice pee flavour, you should get on and have another.

      Ha ha. The Thatchers is the tipple of my currant bun...and the Trévallon is a double magnum, I'll have you know. I had a bottle of the CSJ with J Morgan at 67 c. five or 6 years ago and it was the stuff of dreams. Hoping my remnants have more life to them...Is the 1993 Faiveley Maris one of the rare bottles they made from their grand cru potato crop?

      They are rather "under the radar" for most collectors/consumers, perhaps because their wines tend to take a long time to come 'round. I remember drinking their 1952 Clos de Bèze in about 1993. It was spectacular. I'd bought a few bottles at auction and it must have been cheap as I couldn't afford top-priced bottles back then.

    Dear Bowes. Maybe after 12H opening the flavour could reveal more layers on the palate. Vintages with possibly more drivers would be 2016, 2019 and primeur 2022. In any case and in any vintage, this wine is supposed to drink superbly after 20 years. You might want to open next bottle in 2029. Thank you for this detailed review.

    • @BowesWineLtd
      @BowesWineLtd Рік тому

      Thanks for the comment, Benoit. It's always fascinating to go back to vintages that one has tasted from barrel during primeurs week, not least these '09s. I had some doubts about the vintage from the start: so much ripeness and so much tannin; it was a combination that had never really been seen before. My concern has always been that the fruit was too tender-ripe to keep pace with the tannin and that the wines might eventually end up a bit stringy (like '89, but with riper (and higher) tannin). I have suspicions about Merlot on gravel as, it seems to many Bordelais proprietors. It is too warm a soil for the variety in these times of climatic change. As i said in the video, if I have called this wrong, I will be very happy to hold my hands up and say mea culpa!

    Okay here is what happened: as I told you, the tannins kicked my face. So I put the bottle on the side and didn't drink it for 2 days. I went back to it and tasted it after 2 days and it almost seemed a different wine! Wow! After 2 days the tannins relaxed somehow and the fruit came to the fore. What an excellent experience. Delicious wine. You just need to decant it and be patient. (By the way, just finished a bottle of Solaia. I wish rivers were made of Solaia!)

    Could you tell me in what sorts of containers is this wine fermented?

    • @BowesWineLtd
      @BowesWineLtd 2 роки тому

      Stainless steel tanks, I believe. The wine then spends a year in INOX before being racked into botti, where it stays for two years before bottling. It then spends a further year at the winery.

      Thank you very much. It is a delicious wine. However 2 things prevent me from buying again: 1. The tannins kick my face. 2. There’s a mushroom/funky taste that I don’t enjoy. Sometimes it reminds me of the smell of clay or play-doh.

    Happy New Year Caspar! I would love to see you review some Ontario wines. In particular Pearl Morissette… Francois’s wines are sometimes under appreciated at home and often recognized abroad. With a “brett” presence that is pleasantly palatable. I love wine that speaks of the place it was grown and vinified and of a subtle vigneron.
