2019 Acura RDX Remote Starter Install

I am not an authorized repair person or a dealer and am not affiliated with Honda/Acura in any way. Please perform these steps at your own risk. I provide no guarantee that the steps shown in the video are accurate.
Those of you brave enough to install this on your own, I would highly recommend to tape up the back trim pieces (near the power gate) before you start. This will help prevent scratches on the trim while you are working. I think a clear shipping tape will do the job.
Remember, the new fob keys need to be programmed by the Acura dealership; at my local dealership is going to charge me about $140. The remote starter kit cost me $280.

Thank for the video!, just did mine did not have to do half the steps, just removed the Car rubber water Seal, then unclip some of the sides, then go straight to the plastic liner, unclip and disconnect light, then remove, mount the module, I was able to use a drill , place it horizontally, and tighten, before connecting to module make sure you disconnect negative terminal on battery, then connect. Good luck, easy project.
This is an excessive amount of work. The entire bottom of the vehicle doesn't need to be removed. The rear side panels can be popped loose enough to remove the top headliner panel. It's still an informative video. Thanks for taking the time to show people.
Great video, couple of questions: did you bought the fobs from the dealer or someone else(and how much did it cost); and does 2019 RDX the same as 2021 RDX? Thanks 🙏
Holy moly thats rediculous for a remote start. If the app can do it, it should be an easy fob program...

so i have a 2021 rdx aspec that ,when i had the free subscription, could remote start the vehicle. does that means i just need to get some key fobs and have them programmed?

The dealership recently did mine. There’s a horrible rattling noise coming from under my dashboard since they did it, but it doesn’t look like you did anything in that area. Do you have any ideas? They left grease all over the place on the interior so I’m hesitant to take it back if it’s a relatively easy fix
For my RDX, it was 2019. Not sure if Acura removed the wire harness inside the rear trim; this was for the remote start module. If your model is newer than 2021, you may have to check with the dealership if they needed to install a wire harness. If so, I assume they needed to open up some panels in the front dash...I hope not!

Which PN did you buy. The parts he linked only shows the remote receiver and the two keys are $200 each.
I followed the updated instructions and it took me an hour to install. Although this video helped out to get through the new steps.
Hi I know you worked thru to get to the wires, but I was really looking forward after you installed the bracket to see the receiver connected to the wire... And it sucks that the dealer still have to charge $140 plus tax to reprogram the new keys, question is the reprograming of the keys for the car to star when the brake pedal is pressed and the push button ia pushed? I assume the receiver and the new keys are already communicating to each other... Good video anyway you shed a lot light ...
😂 the first 15 mins I thought you were pulling my leg. Man!! You nearly took the whole car apart just to get the remote start on this Acura. Something that’s standard on all lincolns. I just got an Mdx but I don’t think it will be long before I trade it for a navigator. It’s sucks that it doesn’t have a auto start or 360 cameras

How did the wiring work? Is it just a pre existing wiring harness that you in cap and connect to the box? Does it require cutting and splicing wires ?
I can't believe how much work you have to do to install a remote control on the RDX it is not worth it. they can make it easier they just don't want to do it. is is crazy just to watch
once you get passed few under panels, all is good :). The remote options is pretty cool though; no need to depend on the App.

yap, you can use the app only. NO need to install this. If you want to start the car via the key, you will need to do this.
@@in2zion478 I had the app for a year; I couldn't do that; how can the car be connected to the internet? Does that feature work for 2019 RDX?
well... I think Acura placed a transceiver that receives satellite signals for the remote start. Nevertheless, my car was 2019. It will work. Remember, even after the install, Acura dealership needs to program it.
@@visualizediy3920 I’ve contacted AcuraLink and subscribed for the yearly small plan, $110 per year. I thought it was better to pay $110 than open all parts of the car. I won't keep the car for more than three years. I usually change my car maximum every five years. Anyway, thanks for all the replies

Hey Arturo, Nope there is no other way. If you decide to stick with the app, it may be a better choice. In the instructions, they want us to fully remove the side panels. I managed not to do that...it saved time. Just make sure you tape up the panels before trying to remove it. This will prevent any scratches on the plastic panels. Good luck!
I was ready to do this thinking it will be an easy one after seeing what’s inside the box until I saw the whole process of removing everything. I will just use the app and subscribe while I keep this rdx. That is way too much work, even the part where you attach the transreceiver. I am afraid of hearing rattles in the back after doing this and leaks after removing the sealing liners. I commend you for doing this video for those who have the courage to do what you did.

You should know that your RDX could be starting with your phone. Just download Acura app from the App Store!

I just got done doing this today, using your video and the Acura instructions. Not hard as some people think, just follow the instructions and watch your video from time to time. Took me 2 hours of work with no knowledge of the car before. And that’s including putting everything back together. Now all I have to do go to Acura. I was told if I bought the remote start from Acura they will do the I-HDS for free. Just show receipt. Not confirmed yet because I haven’t gone. For those of you who are scared to do this, it’s not hard. He did a great job showing the process, and the instructions are very step by step. Thanks again man!
Thats awesome! I'm glad I helped. I actually did this for our Acura forum community. During the install, I realized there was no need to fully remove the side trims; this helped a lot. Just tape up the upper trunk trim to protect it from scratches and we are good to go.
17:28 Couldn't you have popped that top panel out without removing the entire back of the car? Looks like the sides tucked in under the side panels, but it looks like you could have just popped the top or each side out to get the top piece out. Looking back, could you have did that or no? BTW, did you end up with any scratches/rattles when you were done?
Nope, the side trim needs to be removed to release the upper trim in the back. The only area that scratches could occur is the upper trim while taking it out. I recommend taping it before trying to remove it.
@@visualizediy3920 Thanks for the reply. Its a shame they didn't put in an access panel or put it behind that panel at the top of the hatch itself 6" away from where they put it.
I would never do that he is a professional he started it in the morning & was done in the night & was missing the part where u program the remote to the starter,

Dude I would pay you to come to the Caribbean and install mine. That installation looks hella scary.
It looks hard but its not that bad :). Just be patient and you will get it done.
Nice job, man, I would be scared of doing it myself, I know , I would scratch something or worst break something, them plastic panels always seemed to weak for me.
Honestly, the plastic panels were solid. They will not break easily. Nevertheless, the plastic clips can break if you don't line it up properly to the body panels. It is hard to mess up though. The hard part was installing the receiver above the headliner. The installing space wasn't much but with patience, you can get it done. As for scratching, you just need to tape it up with packaging tape on the side of the plastic panels; this will help prevent minor scratches the plastic.
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen, all that work for a simple remote start!? The new RDX is lacking in remote start and wireless charging. Shouldn’t have to relying on the mobile app for remote start, it should be included on a luxury vehicle. Just my thoughts...
Yeah, it was a lot of work but I am now enjoying my remote starter. Although the Acura Link app has other advantages, day-to-day usage of the starter on the remote is necessary for me. It just faster to start the car with it. Nevertheless, you really need to test drive the car. The fun factor of the car allows me to forgive Acura for their mistakes :) .
Remote start is included on the Advance trim level and the new Aspec Advance trim. Or just use the on line remote start through your cell phone, it's brt5than an old fashioned key fob remote start because yo8not limited by tange.

How did you program the new keys to your car? Or did you just take it to the dealer to program the new keys? If so, how much was reprogramming? I bought my kit and this video helps a lot.
Nice, let me know if you have any questions. I'll be glad to answer them. The remote keys needed to be programmed by the dealership; a regular locksmith group cannot do it yet. It cost me $140 with taxes at my local Acura dealership.
I’m more surprised that the USA version don’t have power side folding mirrors and the Canadian models do. Makes 0 sense and the reason I held off on buying one. I can’t support stupidity.
I totally agree. I really don't understand either. I do not know which focus groups may have recommended these changes. I always used the power folding mirrors and the remote starter on my MDX. Nevertheless, the RDX is a blast to drive. I love it!
I don’t get this why would you take off so much paneling if you connect it to the battery and btw my 2017 rdx advance came with remote start

So did the $284 price include all parts needed including fobs? Or did you need to buy additional items? Nice job on install.
@@jimccc9467 As for the actual install, no other equipment needed. You will need some tools though...like the trim removal kit. It will help.
Visualize DIY I bought one for my daughter’s ILX, wish it was as simple as yours. For the ILX the instrument cluster has to come out which it fairly involved and ultimately I will need to pay a locksmith to come and program new fob because the original ones will no longer function to start car.
