gyrocopter vertical autorotation
The video shows the airflow on a gyrocopter rotorblade while vertical autorotation, i.e. no forward and approx. 7 m/s descent speed. Note the filaments going outward on the inner two meters of the blade due to centrifugal forces (320 rpm) and stalled air flow. The outer blade length of course still produces lift.

Interesting. I think the rotor also produce lift when retreating, but the lift is not from airfoil but the attack angle. Or else the gyro would crash immediately.

Why do you call this a gyrocopter? It is an Autogyro, which has a two blade rotor with a “teetering head”. This is a rotor head with a solid centre piece, without pitch change bearings or flapping hinges. The description of gyrocopter or gyroplane are not strictly defined, but a gyrocopter is an autogyro with three or more blades, where the rotor head requires pitch change and flapping hinges. There are examples of autogyros with a three blade rotor taken from the Hughes 269 helicopter, and an example of “Gyroplane”, the Mculloch J2, which has a three blade rotor head and stub wings to augment lift in forward flight. In short, if it has two blades, it is an “Autogyro” If it has three or more blades with a helicopter type rotor head, it is a Gyrocopter, and if it has a pusher propellor and a helicopter type rotor head with some form of wings to generate lift in forward flight, it is a “Gyroplane”
Gyrocopter, was a trademark for Bensen Gyroplane.

This is an autogyro. The blades are not connected to the engine in flight.

I can see the tip going up and down. Needs to be balanced again or trim tabs installed. Shouldn't have that much vibration. Slippage mark all nuts to determine if they are working loose. Fly safely.
