It gets me down thinking of the wasted potential this species has, we spend our limited time on this planet consuming as much as possible to fill a self made hole. I find that Schmachtenberger's notion that AI can persist independently (in the absence of a functional human civilization to maintain it + with environmental extremes that are increasingly hostile to infrastructure) is a bit dubious. My grandparents have been gone for decades but i consider noam my favorite and only living grandparent. And i will be heartbroken after his earthly life ends. I'm 16 years younger than him, but I followed him for a big part of my life and tried to get his word out to many other people.
