Pro tip: to warm yourself up at a gas station while on the road, go into the bathroom and run your hands under warm water. It warms your hands quickly, but more importantly, it pumps that warm blood back into your torso. You can DRAMATICALLY raise your core temp quickly by doing this. So much so it will shock you, happily so. Literally make yourself go from shivering to feeling good in 15 minutes. Wisdom gained from working in a frozen food warehouse for 26 years. 😂
Yes...the weight is serious on the S10, and the bike is tall. I nearly had a heart attack and a panic attack yesterday pushing mine up a ramp into a trailer (as the fuel pump was dead.) Fortunately, the fuel pump (with 35,000 miles) died in the driveway. (BTW.....a $450 part.) Excellent vid👍.....which boots are you wearing? Tnx, jd
Is that an r3 suit? I wear one also with turtle 2 too.
Yep it's an Aerostich R3 with the Helite Turtle vest!
How many miles do you ride a year. I live in San Diego. Thx for this.
Last year I put about 14,000 miles on my bike. Hoping to improve on that this year!
Nice video. I liked my SuperTenere so much I just bought a second one. I'll sell the first eventually. I took both to 2WheelDyno. It's worthwhile. Did a slip on Delkevic and K&N on this newer to me bike. Loving it!
Awesome! I put the 2WDW tune on about 1500 miles ago now and absolutely love it. Definitely worth the price and solved my biggest complaint with the bike.
Nice. I've done 3 SS-1000's. The first one it rained on me for the first 150 miles, and then dense fog for the last 200 miles. The second one I did a week later. It was snowing on us for the first 20 miles and then just stayed cold all day. It sucked. The last one was mild temps and sunny weather the whole time. I finally caught a break. I'm sure sunny southern California would be ideal year round.
@@kristopherwilliams1719 Dang! You’ve really earned those SS1000s! Most of mine have been pretty straightforward weather wise but the BB Gold I did to Denver was tough. Lots of wind and then I got snowed on at the very end getting into Denver.
I've done 813 miles on my Super Tenere.... and it was a long day. It was two years ago... and I should add I'm currently 73.
@@richardmourdock2719 That’s awesome! I hope to still be riding at your age!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. It would be great to see the tips and lessons learned video too! I'm working on getting my bikes back up and running and do one of these too. Happy New Year!
@@kjbetz Thanks!! I’ll put another video together soon. Happy New Year to you as well!
You make it look so easy!!
Let’s do it on your R3 haha
Excellent video, those Super Tenere's are made for crushing miles, I have a 2023 Super Tenere.
Awesome! Yeah I love these bikes, super underrated in my opinion.
Great video! I would be very interested in a detailed video on tips for planning an Iron Butt ride.
Thanks for watching! I’ll put together another video!
Thanks for a very helpful video. I finally got around to installing heated grips on my 2016 Super Tenere this weekend. Your video made the job quick and easy!
What is the length of the bar from hole to hole for the mount?
I don't have the bike anymore unfortunately, but it would depend on how long your intake tube is and what your collar (The part I 3D printed) looks like. Sorry I can't provide any better information!
No worries I was designing a 3d printed bar as well for this.
Glad to have your thoughts, I share the same opinion regarding my ST12. Ride safe! Greetings from Brazil.
You can adjust the freeplay of throttle , that knob on cable its for adjustment :D after that is not that jumpy
The freeplay is within spec, it needs to have some freeplay so the throttle doesn't bind when you turn the bars.
Had over 150 bikes. This also one of my favorites ! Have arrow slip-on,Sargent seat and 2 wheel dyno flash. The flash made it much smoother. Sport mode is as smooth as touring.
I agree! I just got the flash for my bike and it feels so much better. I wish it had come from factory this way!
Glad to hear you are still enjoying the bike. Regards from California.
I just added factory heated grips to my 2018 super tenere. There's some updates you might want to consider for this tutorial. The updated right grip now contains a new throttle casing that has the cable on the outside. This seems to simplify the installation and there's no need to order that internal bracket (the old throttle casing is discarded). Learn from my mistake... That bracket caused my order to be back ordered for 2 months and a wasted $25. Otherwise, just as this video shows and the bike automatically picks up on the added heated grips.
Interesting, I wonder if they redesigned the right grip as mine ended up failing as the wire broke where it goes into the rubber. I saw online that this was a pretty common issue that others were having as well. Thanks for the info!
By any chance do you have the part number?
Is it still the same part number he listed above? (For the right grip?)
WOW! that rear wheel hugger is a great idea! I'll replace mine too. My engine would shut off on throttle close at times. So always fun to enter corners. I have to keep an ear out for the engine.
The part number is KTM 90106010010 for the Duke tire hugger! Sorry to hear about your engine issues - any idea what it might be?
@@Raguvian Thanks! I have not touched it for over a year (I'm overseas), I forgot where it's at with the problem. The mechanic did not find any part fix. But said others had cured it by not pulling in the clutch too soon on throttle off or something like that. It might have gone away the last few weeks I rode it as I started to ride it harder. Maybe cleared its throat. lol.
Check out the guys at GrayAreaKTM, they had a podium Motoamerica RC390 against Ninjas at the highest level, they had custom parts for shifting and all the goodies for power. I have the same bike, and weigh 225lbs, and have no problem keeping up with Ninjas and will pull R3s.. I have a tune and full exhaust, filter, airbox mod etc. but headwork or high compression pistons, so you should be more than able to keep up too. Powertronic V4 ecu too, I got it, runs with my fuel x, completely different bike. Also moves the redline up so you have more usable power and revs. I'm excited to get my track fairing set up and start racing this year, but no other bike so need to convert back n forth from race to street. Cheers.
I've ordered a couple of parts from GrayArea already, including all the shifting parts! I don't know if I want to spend the $ on the tune and exhaust right now, but good to know that the bike has the head room to be competitive!
Forgive my English. Yeah, What brand are the fairings and where can I buy them? Thank you so much.

Buen video. Gracias por compartirlo. Que marca y donde comprar los carenados de circuito
Is this the one that says its for the Duke?
@@nokenel Yep! Fits just fine
Looked fun man
Can't find the other video where you actually tear the engine apart
Great video. One question, once installed, the update to the screen is automatic? That is the bike knows the heated grips are installed, so it shows the grip icon/interface?
@@baglien That’s right! It will show up automatically
Excellent video. I also have a 2016 and I love it. I just did a 12,000-mile, 30-day ride from Maryland to Alaska and back, and the bike performed flawlessly, in spite of some of the worst weather and road conditions I’ve experienced in 22 years of long distance motorcycle riding. It’s also one of the most comfortable long distance touring bikes I’ve owned. Enjoy your bike. You made a great choice!
@@mjleggieri Thank you! Sounds like you’ve had some epic adventures on your Super Tenere! I still love mine after almost a year with it - by far my favorite motorcycle I’ve owned so far.
Sounds good in the video but how does it sound in real life? Is it louder than stock?
You can at least cut down the work by only removing the five main fairings bolts. Two up top on on the side one by the head light and one on bottom.Yes header does have to come off to get the cat off
Great video. No annoying music. Clear narration. Great points on the Super Tenere in canary color. I'm jealous, and I want one bad.
Thank you! I'm trying to be straight to the point. Appreciate the feedback! And I still feel very fortunate for having this bike. I'm planning on doing a 1 year update in the next few weeks!
Where can i buy it? For 125ccm?
In Manitoba Canada, that bike is 1200$ a year to insure
Dang! I was paying $170/year to insure the RC 390.
@@RaguvianYeah and to make matters worse, we have snow for 6 months. So technically we pay 1200 for sport bikes under 500cc. 500-1000 is 1900$ for 6 months. Over 1000cc is even more. Cruiser bikes are cheaper. So for the KTM rc390 it's about 200$ a month for riding season lol. All Canadian provinces have different rates, though
Love the gp edition orange rc390

Is your bike stock? Besides that cat delete?
@@monarch29balisongs Yep! Just has a Fuel X Lite piggyback that I’m not sure does much.
These bike's are awesome
Yooo where do you get that fairing kit!? Yellow was the best!
You have one of the best Bikes out there. Parts are easily obtained so you do not need to worry.
The Super "T" is relatively easy to pick up when fitted with the crash bars. Too many people seem to be of the opinion that its a mission.
@@murraycarton3792 I found that out a few months ago! It tipped over in a parking lot. Wasn’t too bad to get it back up.
The RC390 is such a great bike! Love the video!
@@ORNG_KRUSH thanks!! Mine has come such a long way since then!
I really like the ergonomics on this bike. Just wish it had a bigger engine.
I think they are working out the RC 890 for 2025 actually! Maybe that will suit you better
@@known8172 That would be a great bike, though I think I would like a RC690 even better. Slim, light, low rotating/unsprung mass similar to the RC390. I had a couple of 690 SMs over the years and that little engine is pretty special for its size and weight.
Same exact thing happened to my 13 versys 650 with 25,648

I’m here in San Diego and will be doing the spray flat black paint first on my truck bed than the roll on my 69 gmc truck . Helpful video !!
I have one and the worst part is the engine. So boring.
Nice! Way to think outside the box and come up with your own solutions. Maybe you could use the second mount for a selfie cam or something? 🤔
Thanks! I did think about that - though one of the Insta360 cameras is tempting so I can run just one camera!
@@Raguvian the Insta360 cams are amazing! Especially that new X4.
