Tour de France 2001 Stage 12. Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich duel again in this classic tour. Armstrong appeared super-human, because he was (like most of the contenders in the tour) on a doping program. EPO, blood transfusions, etc. He trained specifically for the tour, and had his doping regimen for him and his team structured around it. I had been watching cycling in the small amounts we we...

You Know Lance Was Thinking About "Ali" - Rope A Dope #2 Right "HERE"..! One More Things - "ALL THOSE GUYS CHASING LANCE"..? "THEY WERE DOPING TOO"..!
C'était un des meilleurs Tours de France avec Lance Armstrong
Why are you showing a drugged up Lens take all the footage off the web as it is bad publicity for all young athletes. Lens is one big cheater.
LI E STRONG
Two minutes slower than Pogacar 2024 ... Hmm ...
How do you know this? I can't find stage statistics anywhere online
I didn't know the time but I commented while watching the stage that Pogi was going way faster than Lance did back in 2021. lol The climb is right around 12k per Zwift, so two minutes would be about 10 seconds/km. 20 years ago, new generation of riders/food/bikes/equipment/etc. It's possible. If Pogi rides like that and then Jonas comes back better next year and could beat him. That would be a smh moment. Lance would've finished 13th on this stage with his record time. All the riders are doing better these days. Pogi also smashed Pantani's record on Plateau de Beille on Sunday by 4 minutes. Lance did this climb in both 2002 and 2004, and reports are that Pogi beat the 2004 climb of Lance's by 6 minutes. Pogi has been smashing it for a long time on the bike. 2019, he won the Tour of California and then 2020 the TdF. If he is on some mystery dope or other tech, he has been able to avoid any sort of detection for years. The Tour where Lance was on his limit was 2003, he got beat by Ulrich in a ITT and he looked white lipped and dehydrated at the end. Pogi gets the same way when it's hot. Based on the amount of snow in the high mountains at the beginning of the Tour this year, I don't think it's as hot this year. But could be mistaken.
@@L.A.ismyname lanternerouge.com/2024/07/13/pogacar-possibly-does-the-greatest-performance-of-the-21st-century-tour-de-france-2024-stage-14/ sports.orange.fr/cyclisme/tour-de-france/article/tour-de-france-pogacar-a-battu-un-record-d-armstrong-CNT000002epkDU.html etc
Another big difference that you didn't mention: the team(s) pulling. Armstrong spent 45% of the climb alone, 10% behind only one team mate pulling (the only proper big pull from Heras, taking more than a minute to Jaja) and the opening 45% with a big peleton at moderate pace (5 sec lost to Jaja from valley to Heras' pull, despite Jaja's mechanical). Pog was pulled by his entire team taking full turns to try and exhaust Jonas (sivakov then almeida, then Yates), then even by Jorgenson chasing Yates. Result: 75% at high pace being pulled, finishing the job alone for the last 25% of the climb "only".
It's even more obvious with plateau de Beille, done by Pog 3min quicker than Pantani's record. Difference us: Pantani did 75% of the climb alone, while Pog only did the last 5km alone... after being pulled by the whole Visma team, including Jonas himself for 6km trying to drop Pog with a high tempo (swallowing Carapaz and taking 1min30 from Remco), Pog not taking any turn, taking the wind for only 30% of the climb...
Lance Legsweak... the only rider allowed to test positive and dope hard during the tour... stealing 5 tours from ulle
What a treat , Lance the greatest of all time
Considerably slower than Pogacar, though.
EPO
Alpe 'd' Huez climb starts at 1:36:06
What a athlete!!! Doping is cheating, period! However, when the top guys in the same game are all doping, it is fair!!!
Love
This stage/year changed the way we were able to view the tour. The next year there where many more cameras and helicopters and the entire production was ten times better.
Armstrong being a champ brought the USA viewership in.
You will suffer on the mountain ⛰...!
Stage 10, Armstrong is a half an hour out of yellow, and yet had this tour under his control.
EPO
Lol if u think only EPO was used. But u have to also know, everyone behind him was also juiced to the gills.
EPO is a hell of a drug
Lance was a cold hearted killer like Kobe or Jordan.
Yeah, he really was. He has that personality. Then he had cancer and became even more focused and determined afterwards.
Nice thanks I’ll be there July 2023 can’t wait
Lo scempio del ciclismo,senza parole
Lo scempio del ciclismo,senza parole
Uncle Armstrong you will always remain at the top no matter what!!!
The masterpiece
Lance Armstrong went back to his team car..... Edgar Allan Poe yo.
Damn those bikes look primitive compared to today's. Love watching descents without helmets back when the UCI had some balls.
That cadence was a game changer, amazing. I still think he was brilliant for inventing cadence.
Dr Ferrari was a big part of this development. Now the entire tour rides exactly like this.
Yes, but unfortunately Armstrong's way of riding was also only possible due to PED use - EPO and/ or blood doping mean you have more oxygen in your blood meaning you have the energy for this
Motor in the crank
@@henriksrensen3220if you think they stuck a motor in THOSE bikes, then you clearly don’t know anything. Do some research on modern e-bikes. Even those cannot pull off what these riders were doing. The only extra help LA had, and the rest of the riders had, was some epo, testosterone, and blood doping.
@@asavage24_76 you don't know anything. Do some research. Motor doping is well known, and has been used by many riders. It's a fact
I don’t care what they said lance was the best at it. Everyone was dropping yet he still beat them all
TOUS PETES???????????NE JUGE PA ET VOUS SEREZ PAS JUGE
BIG BIG BIG BOSS GRANDE GRANDE GRANDE OTTIMO LANCE
BRAVO POUR LES COMMENTATORS US
Phil Liggett still announces the Tour for the US viewers. 😊
GRANDE GRANDE GRANDE OTTIMO LANCE BIG BOSS
RIP to Sherwin and Lance is GOAT
Ulrich crashes. Lance waits... Beloki....is Spanish =NOT WAITING Lance and Jan may have cheated but they BOTH would have waited for the other.... 🇦🇺🤔🤭🤫
Jan also waited for him in 2003 when Lance crashed with iban mayo
@@minoX6Tyler Hamilton, who was on CSC at the time and riding with a broken collarbone, came up and told everyone to wait also.
how not to see the best cyclist in recent years of this sport lancé armstrong a living legend 👍👍👍🚴🚴🚴
He cheated
Always insane to see these races with the riders not wearing helmets
They had to, unless tye race finished on a climb then they could drop them before the climb started
Watching this today - listening to the comments - knowing how he cheated is quite funny.....
They all cheated. What cheapens it is that you don't know who cheated better - could be that Armstrong's wins were more impressive than watching live, but it might also be less. When did they get the drugs? This was the last year on EPO or the first one with only blood doping, but day to day form would be influenced by doping
Did Lance catch Laurent Roux to the top of Alpe d'Huez?
Yep! Check out this with Part 3 of that year's stage. :) ua-cam.com/video/9R4ctg44I5Q/v-deo.html
@@scninja07 Holly shyte! He did! WOW!
@@savagepro9060Roux cracked essentially on the Alpe.
0:18 " . . . since the start of the tour he hasn't spent time talking to journalist, whisking off in tinted-window cars locked up in his hotel room . . ." Hmmm, we ALL know what he was up to!
Yes, it’s one of those comments that didn’t seem very important at the time but when you look back 20 years later you understand what was really going on. So many little clues… but I didn’t see it then at all
Dope...like a pound or key. So STFU and listen to me. Lance was just a fan of NWA.
8:36 "Now we've received a lot emails from you viewers wondering why . . . " Lol. It was so long ago that email was the quickest form of mass communication, but yet, the fact that they're responding to emails on TV in 2001 is a clear sign that we had already entered the digital age. Fascinating.
If you are going to criticize a person without knowing who he is, where he comes from, that he can show the world .. you don't know anything, you are a pathetic idiot .. put yourself in the shoes of the other as they say around here 🤔🤔
Everyone was on drugs. This makes them all even so why all the crap given to Armstrong . I don’t like the whey he lied and. Tried to cover up attacking everyone in his path but you can not say anyone is better
Lance is the greatest Tour de France racer of all time.....the French industry/officials went after Lance because he beat them... including Hinault and Mercyxx...
They did’nt go after him lol. They left him winning with positive tests for 7 years, covering for him in all their competitions, even at UCI level. And they even let him return as an old man (in cycling terms) doped to the gills again, after a 3 year long hiatus. They only did something about it, when their hand was forced to, because of Floyd Landis’ confessions and testimonies and they ensuing cases. Lance got all they leniency in the world up, like no other, because of the big bucks he brought in to all involved in the cycling world.
Yeah, it’s cuz of that rat Landis and the 2 face back stabber Tyler Hamilton.
@abuzuz5800 okay, but Landis didn't just wake up willing to confess. He didn't force anyone's hand.
@@abuzuz5800 There was so much doping back then it was hard to take any of it seriously, now that being said it was extremely entertaining, I had OLN from Shaw for that reason alone.
Thanks for uploading.
You're welcome! :)
By the way, Lance put thousands of bums on seats, made millions for bike producers and raked in millions to fight cancer, and all you idiots can write about is that he was a cheater. Look at the bigger picture !
Golden upload, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I am so fortunate that I live in Germany and can spend my summer holidays riding up these iconic mountains. Gives you goose pimples covering the road of former legends. The only sport on the planet you can ride exactly the same route as your idols, awesome sport.
I agree, great sport! Can you see the riders names written on the roads of some of the climbs or does that get washed away or otherwise covered up?
Armstrong’s chromatics must have 9.0😆
Lance Dope-strong.
Juiced!!! Lots of dope in that race!
wow, how long did it take to think of that gem....
@@TheRebuilt1cope with the truth
Since they are all dopers, the honor should still be given to the best endurance athlete in the world. Right! Its Lance Armstrong!
Lance Armstrong the lier, cheater and druggie. fucking lying bastard
