You're absolutely right. He did say he hated the design for the new hotel at the St James Quarter. The council are really dragging the city down big style. So much road works and closures

@ Sadly there are a lot of architectural disasters in Edinburgh, the current and previous St James centre is testament to that. I’m too young to remember the original Leith Street but from photographs it looked a lot nicer than it is today. Roadworks in this city are unreal and a daily battle and compounded with the narrowing down of the roads make Edinburgh a horrible city to drive in for any modes of transport and watching how the city is evolving really breaks my heart. Edinburgh like most other cities have a massive traffic problem and the council are hell bent on creating as much congestion as they can get away with by narrowing road space down and altering traffic light sequences as well as adding traffic lights at every junction to bring the city to a standstill. The trip from Leith Street to the foot of the walk used to take approximately 5 minutes on the bus, now (if your lucky) it takes up to 15-20 minutes and the traffic is held at every set of lights with trams getting priority and when the trams are bunched up the delays are worse. Charlotte Square is another disaster as the council have narrowed down the road and installed pointless traffic lights that are hell bent on creating congestion which spills onto the West End of Princes street and blocks traffic trying to exit from Lothian Road onto Princes Street and into Charlotte Square.
