Phenomenal game by Warren Moon and the Oilers. Moon is very close to breaking the all time passing yards per game record by Norm Van Brocklin from 1951.

Jerry Glanville returns to the Houston Astrodome for the second time since being fired as Oiler head coach after the 1989 season. This game has a much different result than his first visit back to the Dome in 1990.

How did the Oilers win games like this and lose to terrible teams?
Two terrific teams
That group he put together ran a very tight set that James Brown would have envied
Fun times
it is strange how yous make the players quiet yet you let announcer annnounce til... sad 😢yous see so little.
I was at that game. It was so loud at RFK as he was getting ready to kick that field goal, you couldn't hear yourself think. What a great day!!!
Ahhhhh yes! The infamous & talented, but underachieving '93 Oilers. A1-4 start; Moon benched then re-instated; "Baby gate;" a player, Jeff Alm, committing suicide; and, of course, defensive coordinator, Buddy Ryan, "punching" offensive coordinator, Kevin Gilbride, during a game. And yet; this team reeled off 11 straight victories including this one. Only to lose to the KC Chiefs, led by the GREAT Joe Montana, in the first round of the playoffs. This season was so DYSFUNCTIONAL that "A Football Life" dedicated an entire episode entitled "Houston'93." A must watch for any Oilers (RIP) fan.
Being a native Houstonian & huge Oilers (RIP) fan, I remember this game like it was yesterday. You could hear a collective groan (including yours truly) in my apt. complex when Howfield missed that kick! Naturally, Washington won the game in OT. The next day Howfield was released & replaced by veteran kicker, Al Del Greco, who tuned out to be a pretty reliable kicker for the Oilers/Titans for the next 10 years.
Interesting that Rick mentions the new album called Cheap Trick 1997 is coming out in 4 weeks because it was released April 29, 1997. This is not from 9/1/97 Capitol Square, Madison, Wisconsin because Rick mentions they did a radio interview in Phoenix and during Dream Police improvises the words Phoenix Arizona.
Today this would be the Tennessee Titans against the Washington Commanders, not nearly as an exciting matchup now as it was back then
Nostalgia at its finest. Thank you for this
I miss the oilers and those home uniforms were great
Cheap Trick did not appear in San Diego in 1997. This appears to be San Diego, 12/28/94 at the Coach House.
The memories 🥲
🇿🇦🙂
Great game
How did it ever happen that the AFC lost 13 super bowls in a row and how did the NFC end up so much better than them during that era I mean they were light years better than that like when these games would get played back then I was always shocked when the AFC team would even compete against the best of the NFC
The amazing don criqui
91 redskins best team ever
Looks pretty good
3:17:10 interception Darrell Green
Go redskins
Httr. Jus like yesterday..dam
🎉
😊
Takes me back this game. Remember watching this as a Skins fan
The rematch: sam wyche unleashes Hell onto Houston
How fast do those cars go?
Sports was so much more fun to watch before the 90’s
Class act from a class act! Is there any footage from CT1 or CT3? Been looking for them for years!
Still can't believe the Oilers traded Moon for next to nothing.
We're talking about B. A. He'd trade his daughters if he thought he could
6:13 probably would get ejected today. Legal then.
The Houston Oilers. I still can’t get over that they done away with this classic franchise. I know I know…they’re in Tennessee. But my comment still stands. You can keep your Titans and Texans. The league is poorer without the Oilers.
It certainly does suck without the Oilers. They were iconic.
It's just that I could never stand that little dweeb Glanville.
2:13:10
Excellent
The Oilers and the Run and Shoot was looking good in early 1991. Alas, the Run & Shoot was flawed (especially after the league figured out how to “Zone Blitz” it) and the Oilers began to refine and develop their tendency to choke in the post season.
Redskins could run the ball, Oilers didn't even try. They just aren't a running team.
❤🏟🏈
1:32 Monday Night Football intro
These oilers uniforms are legendary.
A lot of people thought this was a super bowl preview The oilers showed they could play with them NFC teams this is when the AFC was so inferior to the NFC and this 91 Redskins team is maybe the greatest team of all time been some people's ratings they have them number one they were phenomenal and Houston should have beaten them had Houston won this game maybe they overtake Buffalo that year and get to the super bowl instead of Buffalo because Houston should have won this game they outplayed what some people think is the greatest team of all time
Luv da blue
Hey, old school Oiler fans, I cannot believe that the Redskins got out of this one with their lives in an otherwise perfect season for my team
@@SST4SSG You're right honestly these might have been the two best teams in football talent-wise and everything I know the Buffalo bills were loaded so Buffalo was probably the best team in the AFC but this oilers team man for man could match up with anybody in that era and this is when the AFC was weak but the oilers stood up to the NFC as you see here the Redskins were maybe the most overpowering team I've ever seen on both sides of the ball and the oilers matched them physical for physical
@@BruceWayne-ri4wr I'm 50 years old, dude, and I remember, back in the day, how tough that team could be. I'm very thankful that my Redskins did not have to rematch on a neutral field in a Superbowl against them. I'm certain they would have played much better than the Bills did in that game against my team that year. We (Skins) probably might have been big trouble. (If they did so well in the invincible RFK stadium climes of that day ON THE ROAD, who knows how they would have done in Minneapolis?...PS--my dad and older brother went to that game in Minnesota as fans)
No excuses, he's got to make that field goal. The oilers had them beaten.
And several organizations have crowned the 91 skins is the best NFL team ever yep and the wheelers had them beating the outplayed them too that was a hell of an oilers team
This game broke my heart when I was a kid ,the Hawks had SB winning calibre team but the window was closing, when we lost deep down I knew that window had closed. I was so upset because to I felt that was an INT by Fredd Young and we were robbed and vowed to stop watching the NFL. But fate intervened I saw Bills QB, Jim Kelly going into a Jazz Club over here in London a few days later he waved and gave me a smile. It was like a sign to keep the faith. BTW I never forgave Warren Moon and the Oilers. Go Hawks
Them oilers uniforms awesome
that whole family who lives here for free,,,, and marcuses gang
Thank you
I would love to hear James Brown announce a NFL game...
Before Howfield could return to Houston he was sacked
The coach had to, there's no reason to miss that field goal when you're about to win the game.
We were still in the chase until that Oilers game at Houston
2:04:05
This was purely just a great football game.
