    So just so I'm understanding correctly you cut the old vinyl out from the groove that it sits left it like that and just mounted the window on the inside of the convertible top and not using the original Groove that the vinyl was glued in?

      I didn't make note when I purchased, but believe it was at least 1.5mil thickness. Suggest to use that or slightly thicker.

    Thanks for the helpful video. What kind of transition cement(s) do you recommend?

    • @sebshomeprojects2281

      The check-valve is actually not ABS, but CPVC. My mistake while shooting the video. That said, you cannot use regular PVC cement to join PVC to CPVC. It's recommended to use a Primer first, but ultimately you should be using a CPVC cement.

    Hey. So regular PVC cement can't be used, so which cement then?nOatey green ABS to PVC transition cement? Also, would the same be true for plumbing in a new Jandy 3 way valve too? Thanks!

    What size pvc goes into the check valve?

    • @sebshomeprojects2281
      @sebshomeprojects2281 Рік тому

      The check-valves can come in different diameter sizes, most common are 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5". I installed a 2.0" because that is the size PVC tubing coming out of my heater.

    The chlorine from the salt cell won’t kill your heater. Improperly balanced water will kill your pool heater. I would have installed a bypass as well so your not continuously running water through the heater.

      100% correct if its hayward or jandy its CPVC, all black fittings designed for pool equipment i have ever come across are CPVC (Pump inlet outlet half unions connectors, heater inlet outlet half union connectors), not saying that older stuff couldn't be different but anything newer like the style he was showing in the video both for that check valve and the heater connections

    Hello Sr I have one of those check valves that it's having problems can I just replace the inside flaper

    • @sebshomeprojects2281
      @sebshomeprojects2281 Рік тому

      Hi. Most check valves can be serviced. Try to find the make and model, or remove the flapper or take a photo and go to your pool supply store for the part. They are typically just a few screws on the clear window and remove the internal flapper. If you can't find it - the check valves themselves are not very expensive to completely replace. Good Luck!

    First, Merry Christmas! Second, thank you for sharing your pool maintenance wisdom. What????? Geez Louise! If you are servicing swimming pools with all those pumps and valves our swimming pool plumbing design should be a cake walk for you! We got hit with that Canadian Arctic blast last night. I hope I make it through tonight without further damage. We live in the northwest Florida panhandle: we never had to winterize our swimming pool. I should have listened to my senses, but like out of our past winters I thought we would be okay. I am trying to learn the name and purpose of approximately three foot-(3-ft) long by one-quarter inch-(1/4-in) black PVC tube that connects from the pump discharge pipe (?) to the return pipe either before or after a Jandy flow valve for the jets [the purpose of this tube is a question?]. This video illustrates our swimming pool plumbing system ua-cam.com/video/wMrk_kRFBxk/v-deo.html

      Thanks for your comment and question. Watched your video and looks like that 3 foot PVC hose is a filter bypass. But why? I haven't seen this in any pool design and not sure what it is meant to achieve. I've only ever seen this type of connection was to feed a water feature with the filtered water, like a water slide or waterfall. Sorry I couldn't be of more help and good luck fixing your pump issues. In my experience - noisy older pumps is usually an indication of potential failure.

      Hi, I didn't buy online so can't send a link unfortunately. The suggestion to check Walmart might be a OK, but I found the gauge at big box stores to be too thin. I had best luck going to a local Italian mom-and-pop housewares store. They had a very thick gauge vinyl used for protecting dining tables that I couldn't find anywhere else.

    So, how did this work out? I would worry that folks will think that is a solid surface and step on it. I also need something like the skimmer winter plug to close off the stairs and support the winter cover, but not finding such a thing...

    • @sebshomeprojects2281
      @sebshomeprojects2281 Рік тому

      I have been using these stair covers for over 14 years with no problems. If you are really concerned about people stepping on them, you could add a sheet of 4x8' plywood before stapling the tarpoline over it. The only thing that I've needed to do is replace one of the 2x3's from moisture damage. In my area, 2x3's are finger-jointed and the glue doesn't hold up over time if very damp. Using 2x4's avoids this problem completely.

    Good homeowner video! Also very helpful to Mark direction of water flow BEFORE decoupling or making any cuts -so easy to glue a valve in backwards and this method is foolproof. Also hoping you fix the inflow to your pump - a 90 degree turn at inlet causes ridiculous turbulence and cavitation - that’s a motor life killer

    • @sebshomeprojects2281
      @sebshomeprojects2281 2 роки тому

      Thank you for your feedback, and comment regarding the 90 degree elbow. I've been struggling with that one, as changing to a sweeping 90 pushes the pool pump back another 4-6 inches which then gets in the way of other plumbing because of how and where the inlet line comes through the concrete pad. I have an idea that I might try next season. Cheers.

      If you accidentally glue the check valve the wrong way don't worry. You can just take out the screws, remove the clear cover with flap and turn it around then put screws back on. :)

    Good stuff thanks for posting. I have a 1975 convertible C3 also and am restoring it. There’s so many things you can find vendors for other than OEM or commercial C3 parts vendors if you take the time to research. The clear kitchen vinyl and pool liner adhesive are great thanks for the tip.

    Thank you so much for posting this. I bought the special glue and got a scrap piece of 40 gauge from the boat store and cut it to your specifications. I did the top seem first and let it set then the sides let them set and finally the bottom loosely and it's snugged up amazing. I did this in 40 to 50 degree weather which is all we had in NY and so surprised that it actually held. It's an old top on an old car and I wasn't ready to do the window yet until after the paint, so glad that I did. It''s amazing to look out the back window now. Thank you for taking the steps to document this and share with others. My only recommendation would be to cover the entire window that will later be exposed by taping heavy paper or thin cardboard so as to not drip any glue on it. Otherwise amazing. I used a brand called HH66 vinyl cement i found on Amazon.

      Hi Frank - I'm glad it was helpful and that you were able to get the results you wanted. Not many workarounds like this one that gets you such a big bang for the buck, when you consider the alternative of swapping out the whole top. Great tip about covering the top to protect from drips. Cheers.

      Held strong for over a year until I sold the car. Our weather changes from extreme heat and humidity in the summer to extreme cold in the winters. It held through all that, so I image it will continue to do so for years to come.
