Bismillah. EPIC raised $3m from the community in 2023 for an event center which was advocated for by the entire board and religious team, but then the board unilaterally repurposed those funds for an Islamic school without any referendum to get approval from the donors. When I politely tried to raise this concern to the board and request a referendum, I was initially ignored for months and then rudely dismissed by the board, particularly the president of the board at the time who told me “this is the way it is going to be - if you don’t like it - too bad - we can refund your money” (which I rejected). Sadly I was also given an extreme cold shoulder by one of the members of the religious team because of my stance on this matter. As a long time donor and supporter of one EPIC project after another (gym, cemetery, event center, etc. ), I am now extremely weary about funds raised for this project or any other project being unilaterally repurposed for something else by the board. The precedent has been set. This was not an accidental issue that could be easily overlooked like making the parking lot too small, this was a blatant unethical move by the board to deny the EPIC community (from which these funds were raised) the right to say to no to repurposing the funds. I placed a similar comment of concern on the other two EPIC 2.0 videos which received a number of likes by EPIC community members, but those videos have since been made private. I have been a member of the EPIC community 7+ years and never seen any other board act this way. May Allah guide our community toward what is best and right and make us continue to grow in strength and iman. Ameen. May Allah guide us all and make us choose the path that is right and fair always.
