Hi loved the recipe I made chilli for dinner and I love it with corn bread but tonight I thought hot water corn bread would be easier and faster. Quick question. In your video you don’t add any condiments other than Salt, but in the video of the finished product there are flecks of what looks like Parsley or some other herb… did you end up sprinkling something on top to give it some depth in flavor?

My grandmother made hot water every day. The only ingredients she used was white cornmeal, salt and hut boiling water. It was delicious! I can’t find true coarse ground cornmeal in the stores. I wonder how it would if I substituted grits instead of cornmeal.

I use a little minced fresh onion or dash of onion powder, just a tiny bit, sometimes a dash of black pepper. I spoon it into the skillet and dip the back of the spoon in the oil to press the top smooth. You can use only corn meal, but a little flour makes it more manageable.

It sorta reminds me of something we ate as young children down south called Cush Cush (spelling?)for breakfast and other meals as well. The batter is poured into a lightly greased hot skillet and fried. Constantly stirring until it's cooked. Put some in a bowl with milk and eat like cereal. Doesn't sound like much but to me it was 😋 I'm sure I'd enjoy yours as well with some greens or even some Pinto beans. Thanks
