DWBS 2015: Peter & Jill Interview, Dance, and Judges Comments
As a young lad in CO, I skied HV as much as I could, driving up (or making my parents drive up) from Arvada. I had a crush on one of the ski patrol, a lass named Astrid, my dream was to become a sooper-dooper ski master, impress her with my skills, and join the HV ski patrol. Ahhh, youth.
I, like many other in the comments, just recently started backcountry skiing at HV. I would be willing to bet an entire generation(maybe more than one at this point) has learned how to ski outside the resort at HV since it has closed. The chairlifts may be gone, but this place is still very much alive as a ski area. It provides a relatively safe place for people to learn and still draws quite the crowd on a good pow day! Hidden Valley Lives on!
I was a patroller at Eldora, and met a lady pro from HV named Marilee at the state pro patrol party. I was up at HV to judge a NSPS test. I ran into her again but she was dating a patroller there. So all of us were in the bar at the end of the day and HV had a giant jump built in front of the lodge . Being young I was telling the older guys I would take a sled off of that jump just as Marilee's boyfriend was walking by. He challenged me to do it and said he would start the lift. So I went out, grabbed a cascade toboggan and did a spread eagle off of the jump while all the NSPS guys were on the deck watching. Not to be outdone the boyfriend went up and took a sled off the jump while I was removing my equipment. Just then the Ski area manager came out and tore him a new one for being hard on the equipment. I went back into the bar for a couple more beers. She ended up coming to Eldora and working there for several years.
I started skiing at HV in 1973, riding in Poudre R1 School Buses, at age 12 from Ft. Collins
I hope you have many HV happy memories, JB!
I'm going skiing here tomorrow!
Thank you for making this doc. I climb and tele ski HV regularly….my daughter is learning to backcountry now and the HV is dear to our hearts.
Thanks much for the kind words, Billy. It's so gratifying to hear that H.V.keeps adding new generations of fans. All the best to you and yours, Brian Brown.
@@browncowvideo @billymoudy6512 Billy took me to Hidden Valley for the first time 9 years ago and we've been skiing there together year after year ever since! Some of the best turns I get each year. Thanks for this documentary, Brian!
@@NewayaRecycling That's great to hear, Brennan. HV forever!
I love this festival and the Happy Valley!!!!
I had the biggest smile on my face watching the entire documentary. I learned to ski at HV back in 1981 and it was so nice to see so many people that I knew talk about the impact this treasure had on so many of us through the years. Thank you so much!
Chelsea Victor is very knowledgeable, professional, and easy to work with. I recommend her very highly. I have recommended her, many times, and they have all been very satisfied and you will not be disappointed.
I learned to ski there the last season. I was 33 years old. Great memories!!!!!*

Love it! Kurtis is a favorite of mine.
Great camp...I know because it changed my son's life. I highly recommend this camp!
can you do a light meter test at various distances?
Really enjoyed the method you used in this video. Answered a lot of my questions. Do you think this could be used well as a key or fill outside? Thanks!
SoloFlightProd In many cases you might be competing with daylight, obviously, but it's a pretty bright light.
I LOVED this!
I'm sure that took more commitment and nerves than anticipated : )
Peter... great job!!
I only used arri lights when I was studying film at SVA. It's interesting for me to realize that I had been waiting for these Alzo type lights for a long time. I got out of film school about 2 years ago and always kept my eyes on the new tools for cinematography. New cameras, new lights, new filters, new monitors new this and new that. Finally I just realized that I had been waiting for nothing. Why? Yes LEDs are cooler, lighter and everything but with all these new digital tools a filmmaker's job is a lot easier. Everything is lighter and smaller. In the past maybe multiple people were needed to move a light or a camera. Now I have konova motorized slider with jib arm, steady am with a vest, car mount, tripods but I had been waiting for that perfect light which was going to have the hardness of fresnels, coolness of LEDs, and this and that. I wasted my time. Sorry I have been dragging the comment. So finally I got this Alzo 3200, an Arri 650 true blue, Arri T1, and I had a small led also. Enough to start lighting. Finally I will focus on lighting more than the lights. Sorry I'm too tired and I am writing a pretty long comment. All I wanted to say was Arri lights are great and the only reason I didn't want them was the heat they produce. Now I stopped thinking like that. Filmmaking is not like anything else. It requires so much effort, collaboration, inspiration and money. I think if my light's being hot is my biggest problem when I'm on a set then I should be happy. At the moment I am looking to buy some floppies, flags, c stands but they are so expensive :( a nice c stand is around $160 before the tax. A floppy is over $100 so they will cost me a such as the lights. I'd appreciate if anyone can direct me to a cheaper seller. I wouldn't mind buying used c stands and modifiers since they last forever. Thank you
I just received the Alzo 3200 today. Oh my god. It's a beast with it's blinding powerful light output. I was planning to buy the 3300 model but then I realized that the light is not that easy to shape. Even with the barndoors closed it still feels like a led panel light. I was watching an arri 650 location and arri t1 location fresnels on EBay. I just bought them instead of alzo 3300. When Alzo 3200 is dimmed I don't even hear the fan noise. I could only hear it when it's all the way up to full power. I will still try to replace the fan but I haven't seen anybody is writing to this video. So I'm not sure which fan to put.
Very interesting that the fan now ramps down with the light output on the 3200. Sounds extremely bright. I haven't changed out the fan on my 3000, as I use it as a kicker or hairlight several feet from the talent. For Frensels, I have a tungsten 650w Mole and an HMI CoolLights, and both are fabulous fixtures. I'm interested to see how you like the Arris.
Hi, thanks for the review. I have been watching this light for months now and your review was very convincing. I was shocked when I saw the output o this light. I just went to their website to buy one and try first. Then I saw Alzo 3200 and 3300. I've decided to give 3200 a try and see the quality. I know some people replaced the internal fan with Noctua NF-B9 and reported that it was noiseless. So I wonder if I can use the same fan to replace what 3200 has. The light will arrive in 2 days. I may put a little test video to show you guys how the light is performing. I think that the fan used in 3000 and 3200 are different so this model fan may not work with 3200. Thanks everybody in advance
Great event, super video of outstanding people doing amazing work. Congrats Good Sam!
So do you recommend them? Have you been able to dampen that fan in post?
For my intended use (as a hairlight or kicker) I really like the Alzo. Since it's able to throw light a long way, I don't pick up the fan noise on my talent. Some folks have had success changing-out the fan itself to a quieter unit in order to use it as a key light source, but it would most definitely void the warranty to open up the case. I would think that any sort of music bed in post would drown out the stock fan noise entirely.
Nice test video. Did you use a Canon 7D to capture the video? What did you use to capture the audio?
Thanks! I shot with my Canon 5D Mk III, audio is an AT 803b wired lav run into the camera via a JuicedLink RM202.
That's my girl there! <3
loved getting to see this, you look awesome :)
That was a great performance! It also looked like quite a workout! Congratulations!
Way to go Cindy!!! You were the champ!
hey friend... what did you put inside those tubes couplers?... a fabric?... cuss I saw the slider works pretty smooth :D
Very proud to be a part of this unique company!
Jeez, I was young! Way too fast
Ok next time I visit the fam in CO I'll have to stop by this place the selection looks great :)
If you were shooting baseballs instead of tennis balls this could be the trailer for the sandlot. Nice work, science is fun!
你想證明7D和5D3一個水平嗎?
Great!
DOPE AS HELL!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
No, nothing was cropped. 7D was shot at 11mm, 5D3 at 15mm, so only slightly wider FOV on 5D3, and that is apparent here. If you look at center crops in my comment link, there's no real loss of quality. And, don't forget, aliasing adds some false detail to the 7D because of line-skipping. My take is that neither camera is ideal for deep DOF landscape or architecture work.
My guess is that you cropped the 5DIII because the 7D is already automatically cropped, so maybe you lost out some quality there. Only my guess
look at the still of the crops in the link above to see which is more detailed (I chose a detailed shot), moving footage is too hard to judge.
don't let your perceptions deceive you. I made some center crops, so tell me which is which. browncowvideo (dot) com (slash) crops (dot) png
Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for the closet rod tip, that's great. I've since bought an Igus unit for my paying work, but hope this project still inspires DIY'ers.
I just made this camera slider, I was able to purchase everything from Home Depot. In their closet section they have heavy duty chrome bars. The one I bought was 8 feet, but I just cut it to 4 feet with a hacksaw. Great camera slide idea, thanks browncowvideo!
moving moving! you practice please!!!
nice Cape you used
@willhawkinsphoto Sorry, I don't recall. I would guess 1/4". I basically just looked at the screws I needed to put through the material and grabbed an appropriate bit.
