being everything everywhere all at once in london with my best friend
its been awhile! I felt burnt out creatively, academically, and to be quite honest with finding myself in general so I took some time off from making videos. not that I've necessarily figured out exactly who I am, but it is crazy how much you can learn about yourself in a few months just by reflection and being open to new things. anyways, Sarah and I went to London together and had so. much. fun. we saw everything everywhere all at once and I cried so much that I actually had to hold a tissue to my left nostril because snot was free flowing out of it. it was disgusting. but the message really resonated with me and reminded me to appreciate everything just that extra bit more. enjoy this short video and I hope to post more soon. thank you.

Happy Saturday! This video has been in the works for a LOOONG time. Honestly, every time I sat down to work on it I had no ideas nor motivation and this is what I ended up with. So actually, I think Rory was even more relatable in the later seasons when she struggled. Most of us do struggle in various ways. It just seems especially apparent when we have obvious advantages - think money or talent or education. But not all of us have that internal strength to allow us to become great people. Most of us are lucky to get to average, or maybe slightly above average. I see Rory in that way. She has advantages, but she is far from perfect.

I fundamentally disagree with the premise the character was let down by the writers. I think the path they choose was engaging and complex. Not everyone suceeds in life and the fact the writers decided to portray that was a more mature decision than simply a smart girl from a rich family suceeds

As a dude this never surprised me, I see women behave like Rory more often than not, whether they have a lot of not. Incapable of being criticized, selfish, mean, egocentric, I mean the list goes on with how A LOT of women behave now a days. Introverted or not, girls now a days just behave exactly like Rory. I see Rory, and I just see another girl doing girl things. Which is unfortunate cause when I was young and the show first came out I thought she was so pretty and cute, with a nerdy side. But just turned out to be another average chick

wel if you think about it, i know a person who lost her mother very young and people always told her she was so smart and poor of her and tell her evetyrhing you do its okay and perfect, like rory. And as an adult is a very selfish person and only think about her and expect people to tell her shes perfect all the time. Well, in a way its very realistic what the autor did here. I always hate rory´s character since episode 1, i guess i always saw it in some way.

I wish Rory had a better ending but I love the show … it is amazing . But Rory did really mess up in the middle. That is a little bit because of her mom, but we can’t really blame her mom completely. He mom did make a feel a bit too special sometimes and was really the “ scolding “ type of parent . Parents who scold aren’t always bad ! Thats what makes us who we are tdy . She also was selfish from the beginning like what she said . I think everyone has flaws that was fine . And stubbornness also kinda runs through her blood line . What was really annoying though is her insensitivity to other’s feelings especially the boys she dated . I know she came of as a good kinda girl at first but she did not really know how to handle things that well . She did not know who date or what to do !!! Personally I think that she should not have dated when she was 16 . Maybe that was not the right age for her … I don’t blame anyone for the things she did , like her mom and her grandmother etc… Although they are contributing factors it was still her choice . I did not expect the show to be completely perfect where Rory never makes Any mistakes and turns out completely good very successful ( that would be boring ) there were ups and downs but I wish she turned out to be more successful! But In the end she did go back to Yale and kinda got her life back together ( I guess right ? ) so this my opinion! One of my fav shows and my MY FAV CHARACTER IS LORELAI GILMORE ( Rory’s mom not rory 😅)

Growing up is realizing that Rory Gilmore was occasionally a toxic person. A loveable, but occasionally toxic person. And on an un-related note, Mitchum Huntzberger was right unfortunately in the end regarding her and journalism.

You are wrong. Rory is not a monster. She is a good person going through a difficult life. Growing up with a mother who gave birth to her at sixteen is hard. Especially because she is trying so hard not to be like that. Rory Gilmore is amazing and she is most definitely not fucked up like you are trying to make her out to be. Shut up and maybe try rewatching the show without having a twisted mindset.

I've re-watched the show about once a year, every year, since it went off the air and I agree with some of her comments. The show hits different when you start calling Rory on her actions. The part she has to play in things. Don't get me wrong; I still love Gilmore Girls. It's a great show. And I don't think she is a monster. For me, it's mostly how she handled Dean and the Mitchum situation. And then later in the Netflix series she further hurts her case by treating her boyfriend terribly (and that's all a big joke to her and Lorelei mind you) and cheating on him with Logan, making fun of fat people, and then her acting entitled at the Sandy Says interview, showing up entirely unprepared which is incredibly unprofessional. She messed up with Dean three different times in their life together and essentially dumps him not once but TWICE for two other guys. She knew in her heart of hearts that she didn't really love him, but just couldn't leave him be and played her part in breaking up his marriage. I think these things are very human and when you start to look at her that way, I can almost appreciate the show more because people screw up and make mistakes. It's realistic. That anger you feel about this video reminds me of how I felt once I grew up and saw the show differently from an adult's perspective.

I guess the show is all about the contract between Rory and mother. She did exactly the opposite of what her mom did at every age she turned. Her mom was a baddy teenager, but Rory was the cutest angel. Loreley had a beautiful adult life, she's the real star for me. But Miss Rory sucks.

i just finished the show for the first time and liked that she was kinda floundering in the revival, but i wish they had showed more of her struggle in the original show! maybe i missed the subtleties but it felt like things were ok.. then she’d have one episode of struggling, then right back to being okay. i wanted to see rory struggle and not immediately have her problems solved with money. like one thing i always think about is maybe having her not get into harvard, and having to cope with the fact she couldn’t get into her dream school or smth, but that wouldn’t hinder her future plans!

I'm a couple of years too late but I have watched both this 2005 film and the 1995 miniseries but I prefer the film. In my opinion, the 2005 version has the better acting, better costume, better music, better cinematography, and the emotions better portrayed. It's obviously less true to the book because of the 2hr time constraint compared to the 1995 6hr version. But it's higher quality in everything else.

You discuss Rory as if she was a real person. Everything she did was decided by the writers of the show. So you should blame them for bad writing. I think they created a character that does not always live up to peoples' expectations and makes mistakes, has ups and downs in her life, quite a normal human being.

When everyone expects you to be perfect all the time, act like an adult even when you are a teenager, always the one more "adult" among your peers, listen to your mother's problems and start to be a mother to your own mother, when you get older you start to question whether that person is you or not. Like it is really you or its all other peoples expectations. You start to question your motives. Because lets face it, NO kid wants to be that stressed when they are growing up, sometimes you want to mess it up a little bit. If you are not open to make mistakes when you are growing up, it breaks you when you actually make a mistake when you get older. When you were little, you had this idea about life; you were naive but then feel stupid for being naive. That kinda breaks you as a person. I think alsa being a good girl image makes people be more harsh on you when you make mistakes. Everyone gets corrupted a little bit while growing up, but when people look at you with expectations for your whole life, they want you to see a great journalist, or in my case, a great lawyer, but in your inside, you just do not know who you are because of all that studying and suppressing emotions.

I think the writers were saying something deliberate about millennials and about raising kids in a way that coddles. Rory was a spoiled only child. At the same time, she also had massive daddy and abandonment issues, which further contributed to her emotional instability. She was told she had so much promise for so long, too, which is a recipe for a lot of pressure.

I would suggest to any young person (I am still young!) not to identify too much with fictional characters, if at all. Your identity is unique and while the experiences of a character on the small screen may resonate with your own experiences and while you may find yourself or aspects of yourself represented by a character, you are still a person and the character is still a character. You don't obey the same laws of physics, so to say, as the behaviour of the character will always be dictated by the whims of the writers, the conscious or subconscious actin decisions of the actress, the executive meddling, the TV ratings etc. My point is, Rory's character may embody some of your experiences, but crucially she cannot embody all of them and she is not representative of you. Just because Rory crashed doesn't mean you will. Just because she burned out doesn't mean you will. With time you learn to imaginatively adopt the pov of a character rather than identifying with them, but when I was a teen i, like so many others, fell into the trap of drawing conclusions about myself based on fictional depictions. Had I seen Gilmore girls ten years ago when I was Rory's age I would have identified with her no doubt and I would have taken her character arc much more personally. Watching her grow up from a distance makes it clear she was set up to fail by her surroundings by being given all these high expectations. You can see how no character in the age groups of Chris, Lorelei and Jason and Rory and Logan was able to live up to the harsh aristocratic demands of their families. Rory also never was challenged to reflect on her actions as a person because Lorelei, Luke, her grandparents and others never confronted her about her behaviour and always viewed her as this angel child.

  • @officialzylo

If her grandparents didnt get so involved in her life, she would have been so succesful

  • @blatherskitenoir
    @blatherskitenoir 2 місяці тому

Rory got all of Lorelai's worst characteristics (her inability to bend, ever, and her extremely high standards) but none of Lorelai's best traits (her independence and stubborn determination to chase her goals). Which means Rory is unable to compromise or settle, but lacks the ability to fix things or deal with setbacks. The second something doesn't fit what Rory wants or envisioned, she runs back to the comfort of her grandparents, who are happy to arrange things for her just-right. However, even the most-beloved grandkid hits an age where that stops being cute and acceptable, and Rory never learned other coping skills, so by the end, she is floundering around in the deep end on her own.

The problem with Rory is that they always treated her like she was the good girl, the perfect child. So when she became to make mistakes and act like a human she such failed. No matter how good a person can be we are humans and we are going to make mistakes, they didn't should romatizate everything she did. Btw, sorry for my mistakes in english 😅. I'm a English student.

I totally disagree with this. Rory had so much pressure on her to do great, Stars hollow expected so much from her because she went to Yale and Chilton. She didn’t know what to do with her life, something I know very well. The show was trying to be realistic, showing how much pressure is on young adults shoulders. She was still very young and was just so confused! I sort of think that she got a little spoiled, but that’s the writers fault.
