Hi, I really enjoy your content and have a collaboration idea I’d love to discuss! Would you be open to connecting via direct message?
is there a way to boost that top speed? 19 mph is a little slow on a public road.
Hmm interesting
Beautiful!
Absolutely crazy that car was involved in a very serious fire at the Charlotte motor speedway liie a year or two earlier. That car was cursed with fire. Search Phil Ross wreck
Gary Bateson crash looks like russle Phillips kinda
My parents were in the stands right where the crash took place. My dad said he could feel the flames coming from the car.
What a nightmare... R.i.p. gary...
This is the most painful death in NASCAR history. Burning alive is much more painful than cutting off the head or body and bleeding.
What a horrific way to go. May he RIP. My deepest condolences to his family
Wow!
This is better than nascar 08
A quanto pare è quasi bruciato vivo. Terribile. Riposa in pace amico. Che la terra ti sia lieve 🌹
What a terrible way to die, RIP man
Very sad RIP too good for this world anyway mate.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Jesus...
Why couldn't car 88 just turn left?
i think he was trying to avoid the 60 car that was loose
This is so sad, he was locked up against the wall and could not escape the fire, this is the 1st time I’ve ever seen this happen and I pray it’s the last 💫
Connel must have known that Batson is still inside his car. Why didn´t he just moved his car backwards or forwards until Batson´t car tilts over to give him root to quit the car? I mean, it´s not that his car was totalled.
Honestly bro he didnt really have a choice after he got unbuckled and ready to get out the fire was already creeping up. Even if the car was still mechanically capable of engaging reverse its more of a fight or flight decision that he made and that was to get out while he could. Im sure looking back he would’ve tried to but theres nothing you can change after the fact. And even if he did safety crews seemed to be no where in sight to put out the inevitable trails of flames that would ensue.
Wow,so sad☹️ R.I.P.,🙏🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
RIP Gary - may he drive faster than ever, where he is now.
Safer Barrier and Hans device could save him and more drivers.
The other driver even tried to go back and save Batson, it appears, but you could tell it was so hot he could not withstand the flames.
I was at this race and it was absolutely horrific. I'll never forget the crowd screaming in pure horror as the car caught on fire. I never watched another Sportsman race again. None of those guys from that series should have been allowed to race there. They were not experienced enough and the races were all shit shows of wrecks and bad racing. It was too fast and too banked from what they were used to running on. I had a friend of mine on the rescue crew and the fire was so hot it took awhile after it was put out before anyone could get close enough to the car to extract him. Just a horrendous event that never left me. I won't watch it again.
Really? How long did it take the fire crew to arrive at the scene?
@@ash27slick74 Not long. 30 seconds to maybe a minute. The problem was this was when cars raced back to the line. So they had to wait for all cars to drive past before they could respond. The rescue crews weren't that far away but they had to wait before they were cleared to go out on the track to respond. After they were cleared it took another 40 or so second to get out of their rescue vehicles, grab the fire extinguishers and start blasting the fire which by that point was huge. They got it out but by then it was too late. The worst was watching the flame ignite from the bottom of the track and crawl up the banking to the car where it ignited the whole fuel tank. Everyone knew what was going to happen and there was absolutely nothing anyone could do about it. The rescue crew was one of the best in the business. They tried to get in there but there was nothing they could do. The whole thing lasted maybe 3 minutes. Horrendous accident.
@@kowalski3769 Wow, that's obviously very horrible. I asked that question because I've seen videos where the safety crew at various motoring events over the years has taken over a full minute to get to the crash site. I was just seeing if the response time has improved. During the '80s and '90s and early 2000's, I was a regular at Raceway Park, Englishtown New Jersey. I was just a regular guy racing my street vehicle but I did attend pretty much all of the major events especially when the big dogs came to town; Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein, John Force, Don Prudome etc. Sadly, I was in attendance in 2008 when Scott Kalitta died in his funny car in 2008 during qualifying. He was traveling over 300 miles an hour when the incident happened and it was completely horrific. The safety crew got there as quickly as they could in this particular incident but there was nothing they could have done to save his life. Also, at the drag strip I've seen minor incidents but the safety crew was usually spot on with the arrival time. I'm guessing in that particular racing event that you were at, it's a lot more difficult to have the safety team arrive at the accident safely, not to mention slowing all the other cars down.
@@ash27slick74 A fellow Englishtown, NJ fan!! I used to live in the area and went to the flea market there anytime I could. Never was able to go to a race there unfortunately. Back to the wreck. They didn't have far to go from where the emergency crew was stationed at the bottom of turn 4 and the entrance to pit road . They just had to pretty much drive right across the track and go another 100-200 yds to the wreck. The cars were racing back to the line so there were a bunch of cars that had to pass before they could get there. I can't remember if they had a guy fully dressed in a whole fire-suit on 1st arrival truck or not. Even if they did it would have been impossible for him to help Batson. The way the car was wedged made it really hard to access quickly. It would have been extremely difficult to get him out of there under 'normal' conditions. Now throw a huge fire into the mix??? Even if a responder was in a full fire suit and got there, it would have been impossible to extract him. The fire was so big and hot that fire extinguishers didn't really help that much. They tried but they really needed something with a lot more extinguishing power and unfortunately that truck was a little further away. The rescue units at CMS was/is top-notch!!! They responded the quickest and best way possible. It all happened so fast that there really wasn't a whole lot anyone could have done. It was just a horrible, horrible accident.
Why did 88 keep him pinned against the wall?
Heavy damage to the steering I would imagine. 🤷♂️
That was raw as fook
Sickening
Never realized how many died back then nobody talks about them
Worst way to die in a crash
Gary Batson dies in the 1992 CHARLOTTE Sportsman 150 qualifying race
RIP Bob Jenkins.

Was that the sportsman race in Charlotte?
Take your time firefighters 🤔
That’s just awful.
What a horrible way to go, near burned to death on the spot. Better to go quickly than have that.
I have no clue why I’m coming back to this 11 years later, came to this event with a friend for a birthday party and all I can remember was being scared shitless because of how loud these fucking things were, just had to look back on it
Was this speedway cursed ?? 😮😱?!? How many other times has THIS kind of accident happened ? ..In this exact manner. ??!?!?... . Ever ??!?😱😳😵😔😭🙏🕯️🌻🌺🌼🥀💮🌹🏵️🌷🌸💐
9:03 that was me! 👍🏻great vid! I talked to you at the race. Hope to see you again!
"succumbed to injuries"....the boy burned to death...
Geez do yourself a favor and do not watch the version that shows the actual fire. It is horrific 😢
