for an authentic Colusseum experience River was beating up everyone with her legendary mace
This was a tough day for River. It was hot and we walked a ton, we told her when she wanted to complain about all the walking or heat she could just hit us with that bottle and we’d take a little break. We got hit a lot… 😆
@@NooksBackpack That's great :D I can 100% understand, we also had some tiring trips when I was a kid. Hikes were fine, but I remember city sightseeing being super tiring (and sometimes boring)..
Yeah, as cool as it was it’s not too interesting to a 7 year old. She was a trooper though.
My beautiful country Tunisia 🇹🇳🌺🏖️
When Vesuvius erupted in 79AD, the pyroclastic flow went West towards Herculaneum, everyone hid at the port (this was the coastline then) Unlike Pompeii which got hit with tons of rock falling and burying it, this town was ash, and is also why it’s better preserved than Pompeii
Herculaneum was covered in lava, not ash though
i just went to pompeii last month and didn’t see these?
Thanks not Pompeii
@@Just_blew oh the caption has #pompeii
Pompeii, the volcano that killed the whole city with its smoke and ash.
This is Herculaneum not Pompeii.
May I have more information?
At the very beginning of this video I explain it better: ua-cam.com/video/pCJz5L63duU/v-deo.html
Nice!👍🏼
My grandma is going to take me on this trip
Enjoy! Sit on the West side of the train (right side going to Texas) for the best views
❤❤
Fun video. Generally it is a toilet under the stairs. And the rooms in the front are either shops if they open onto the street, or maybe a business, but unlikely to be servants quarters since this would be the first room guests would see. And the old pipes coming down from the second floor are usually also coming from toilets into a cesspit. Fresh water came from aqueducts.
Oh, that’s very interesting about the toilet, I thought they only had public toilets but it makes sense the rich folks would have em. I know about the shops but I always thought those first small rooms were for servants. If not them what or who would be in there?
If you get a guide book, they will likely say what they think the use was for each room. Archeologists love to make guesses and then disagree with each other. But Roman’s were very consistent in their housing designs, so they actually know pretty well.
Excellent Trip To Herculaneum. 🌋🏛🍕
The basilica was, in Roman times, not a church. They were public buildings where the business/government of the town was conducted. That style of building was taken over by the Christian Church as good worship buildings. That's why Roman Catholic Churches are called basilicas.
Ahh interesting!
you have a wonderful family
not servants.... slaves
Trips like yours are exactly why Amtrak long distance services are necessary. They do something planes can’t do and that’s link smaller towns to larger cities.
I never even thought of using Amtrak before this trip, flights are so much cheaper in Dallas and it really adds up when having to buy 5 tickets. Plus, the Heartland Flyer just got approved for an expansion into Kansas to meet up with the Southwest Chief. That will add a ton more options (not till 2029 though)
@@NooksBackpack They say for every $1 you invest in public transit you get $4 back. I think you and your family demonstrated that beautifully when you ate and explored locally in Fort Worth! Arguably couldn't have happened driving or flying. Pretty inspirational!
Great information. I did not know the Tex Train from Ft. Worth to DFW airport existed.
New subscriber! Your videos are so helpful! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thanks! Good to hear they’re helpful, I had trouble finding good family related stuff when I was trying to plan for this trip, especially this cruise.
Hi, I'm from Palermo, nice video, we call the orange you ate a "fake orange" precisely because they are very bitter compared to real Sicilian oranges!
Ahh! That explains why there were so many on the trees 😆
So, overall , would you cruise with MSC again?
Yes, and happily. However, I’d make sure it was a port heavy itinerary. While the ship is very pretty, there’s not a ton of activities and those there are can be pretty crowded. We made a review video after the cruise, I’ll try to get it put together and posted in the next few days
hey, did you take a tour guy?
We got a taxi for the day at the port. Pretty easy setup, much cheaper than an excursion and basically does the same thing
@@NooksBackpack thanks:) another thing, do u need a pasport to enter the country? the countries after the bording day.
The night before Tunis the ship gives you a card to fill out (I showed it in the previous Sea Day video) just bring that and your cruise card to get off in Tunis. However, I noticed the excursion folks getting off the ship had their passports with them, so I guess it depends on what your plans are off the ship. That was the only place I saw anything with passports, all the other stops you can for sure leave it in on board.
Can I email you?
Probably the best way to get ahold of me (other than messaging here) is through my discord: discordapp.com/invite/amuj3Ky Just say hey when you get in there so I know it’s you, then you can dm me
We’re following your cruise because we are going on the 25 of may
Here's a link to day 1 of the cruise: ua-cam.com/play/PLi0h8xxi5NpT0YDLc_1bDsxqa25ThQRAF.html
We are doing this same cruise in about 3 weeks so I am on the lookout for any tips/tricks. I know you haven’t got to this point in your posts yet, but if you did the MSC excursions, do you remember when they started for Tunis and Pompeii?
We didn’t do any excursions, they were just too expensive for all 5 of us. In Tunis when you get off the ship there’s a taxi terminal, we paid €90 for a taxi to shuttle us around all day to Sidi Bou Said, Carthage, and the Medina. Worked perfectly and way cheaper than an excursion. We basically just told him where we wanted to go and he dropped us off and waited till we were done. We even ended up staying longer in Carthage and he took us around to several old sites. By the end we were worn out and skipped the market. We got off in Naples but still went to Pompeii that day. You can take the Circumvisuviana train straight to Pompeii for Napoli Garibaldi station, super cheap (but crowded) ride
@@NooksBackpack fantastic info! Thanks so much!
Hola. Gracias por compartir estos videos. me gustaría saber qué noches temáticas había en el barco.. muchas gracias.
We had a White Night, Tropical, and Fancy Night. We didn't really participate in any of the themed nights but felt a little out of place because almost everyone else did.

I don’t know why the algorithm showed me your video, but here we are and I’m glad I found you :-) Your family is very cute. I hope you enjoyed the trip! What surprised you the most?
Praise the Algorithm! 😆 My biggest surprise was how easy it was to use the public transport; tube, bus, train… it was my biggest worry before but it was super easy to navigate.
@@NooksBackpack if you love the public transit you should come try it here in Switzerland 🇨🇭
