Not Just Sunday (December 1981 KDKA)
Переглядів 1747 місяців тому
Not Just Sunday was a long running religious oriented show on KDKA, hosted by George Eisenhauer. Eisenhauer was better known for being KDKA's announcer and for doing many voice overs and commercials throughout the region. Very little of his on-air work survives. This show features his daughter, Cindy Baltzer, and her students from Grandview Elementary in Derry, Pa. Note: The slate says 1980, bu...

KDKA News: Radio Takeovers (January 1993)
I remember growing up in Harlem from 1981 to 1990. Seeing it go from this to what it's like today is ridiculously impressive. No more crack viles everywhere. No more junkies sitting outside my door. 80's NYC was a battleground for real.
A where are they now for the others.. Ed Long got his doctorate in psychology and has become a tenured and well respected professor at Central Michigan University. Also has published more than a few books. Janie Litras (now Dakan) and her husband run a successful boat sales, service and supply company in Lake Elsinore, California. Both went on to have very successful lives beyond what they already had going for them pre- PYL. Larson was truly a tragic figure. This was the highlight of his life and ultimately he lost it all, some by his own doing and some by crappy circumstances not the fault of his own.
Brings back memories. Knew a whole bunch of street kids back then. In the 1980's. In SF and LA. Most of the street kids in SF did not end up on Polk St. That was a really nasty scene. After what I saw and heard about the Polk St scene I would not think twice about a bullet in the head of the predators who abused those kids. Which is exactly what that scene was. Child predators. What you saw in the video was a very sanitized version of what that scene actually was. As for what happened to those kids. If they turned tricks for more than 3 to 6 months on Polk in the 1980's then they would almost all have died of AIDs in the 1990's. Or committed suicide. Very few survived more than a decade. None survived without very serious damaged. Based on the people I knew and stories I heard runaways were about two thirds push / one third pull. Two thirds left home because of serious problems at home. Sometimes due to personality clashes. Often due to parents going through their own serious personal problems / family crises.. One third of the kids ran away because they were young and stupid. If some kind of contact with home was not quickly reestablished then bad things usually happened. Rapes / beatings / drugs / very abusive "relationships" / suicide attempts etc. The ones who lucked out survived as part of a "family" that looked out for each other. Plus there are a lot of good people out there. Random acts of kindness by individuals who are paying attention really do make a difference to kids on the streets. But the secret is to realize you can help people but you cannot "save" people. Only they can save themselves. As for Social Services, "Homeless" organizations etc. Totally useless. Support groups of those who have been through the experience are the only organizations that give any useful help. But there is a real limit to what outsiders can do. That very bright and articulate kid was heading towards self-destruction no matter what his parents did. Or anyone else. Knew a bunch of people just like him. They nearly always ended up dead. One way or another. Either in accidental OD's or more often suicide. The lucky ones ended up in prison long enough to turn their lives around. There is no "fixing" those people I'm afraid. For a start their profoundly traumatic early experiences on the streets are not something that can ever be "fixed". It was funny seeing the grim ER of SF Gen on Potrero Ave from before the rebuild. Very different now. Still the same great staff. Best hospital in SF.
Genius..!!
Man. This was 26 years ago. If they could've only had a clue how even very much worse things would get in the media. 😢
"The ultimate whammy came for Michael Larson on February 16, 1999." Damn, that's cold blooded.
Blast from past Tracy and Alan prb7155
Absolutely loved Gene and miss him to this day, besides “mastering” the tenor sax, selling out clubs here in the U.S. AND Europe especially after he got out of prison in 1969, he was a GREAT human being, had a BIG HEART, sweet person, & absolutely loved my late sis Gerry (his 2nd wife also known as the original “red top” and “Jeru”😏), & was a loving stepdad to my niece Roz....AND, just days before he slipped into a coma and passed away my mom whom he soooo loved and respected, led him there in the hospital, to give his life to Christ, he Sincerely cried like a baby in gratefulness to God and mom and her prayer team from church prayed and ministered with and to him for a few hours, he was so very happy and at peace at that point.🙏🏽
He was a complex man. Focused on his career intensely, found marriage difficult, not a good dad, amazing comedic timing and charm. An American icon
Spending a good part of my life in Tucson, enjoy these videos
a 9 or 10 year old Bonnie Bedelia Culkin is in this show. (Yes Holly McClane is related to Kevin McAllister. They are aunt and nephew.)
I loved watching him, when I was younger
The last line of the whole documentary is "he may not be up above" 💀💀💀💀💀💀
The response to the question regarding Muslim and/or Middle Eastern students and education was pathetic.
Jonny has been gone for so long that it almost seems like a dream that he was even there. Did any of us truly understand just how good we had it?
WQEX was the weird young sister of WQED.
Is that a young Tom Selleck in the cologne commercial? Looks like he was driving Robin Masters’ car.
Be drunk in the Spirit.
1:22:46 i didn't know FDNY Had there own bus
We really need more comedians like red skeleton. A one of a kind
NYC and America 🇺🇸 owes a great deal to him, even in the 21st century!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
That last piece he did, just showed what a piano player he was
Karajan, eat your heart out
Interesting to see John Williams conducting something else other than Star Wars
Jackie Gleason has lots of soul...great comedian but also a natural dramatic actor...and so likeable.😊😮
❤Watched him every week when I was growing up.
3:36 He may be playing a senator here, but in my eyes he'll always be the Fig Newton guy. Hit it, Hal!
"times like these...were made for Taster's Choice!" Sheer poetry.
Beautiful, thanks for posting
0:44 From 1973-74 season - at that time, it was the last season to use the slogan "This is the Place to Be."
The Birth of the UPC Code. Who knew it took till 1975.
Thank you so much for this!
No one will top his clean and very funny jokes
Seems like such a better time then today. I was born in 90s and that was great but just how things are today makes me sad to think how far society has regressed.
Just did a walk around video on FiFi for my UA-cam channel and what an amazing aircraft Just absolutely amazing machine 🛬
7:45 "We have 9 typewriters". Pre-PC era. Eleanor Perry wrote screenplay for David and Lisa, Ladybug, Ladybug, The Swimmer and other '60s classics. I think this is her only filmed interview.
Making unhealthy and greasy food look sexy since the 1970/1980s era of tv advertising ! 😮😅
He had the most gorgeous smile
15:00-16:00. Best part of the interview
Never thought Lucy and her many spinoffs were funny. I'm now 71, grew up watching Jackie Gleason and still love him and the entire cast.
The greatest put-down of this program ever: "It''s not 60 Swingin' Minutes."
Koch claims that subway crime is exaggerated. Adams says the same thing riday . Some things don't change over 40+ years..
Freegen pot holes. ate my pinto . never understood how the city never fixed them.. some people got hurt..Jagoffs..
I live in Altoona and remember watching these thanks to a rooftop antenna, signal was stronger at night so I could sometimes see these
Still love these guys - brings happiness and sadness in their songs.
The best comdeian of then and now. No use of bad language, just him and a great show. He makes me laugh to the point where I'm snorting, crying with laughter and coughing my guts out. No other comdeian has done that to md until Mr. Skelton. That shows how great he is. He's one of mh idols and one of my heroes who has saved my life
And great to see Christie Moore in a grand wig.
I'm 34 years old, and I love Red Skelton. Here in 2024, and Red is still the best ever!
Fabulous thank you
What a great performance! He was such a great entertainer.
