    Next time you make one make it with 2in or bigger pipe. I'm going to make one like you have but with a 3" piece of steel pipe. Then you can plumb a fan on one end and get more heat volume.

      It should be fine to use with that, just use safety measures. It's all pipe and the blower.

    More 'efficient' by leaving the doors wide open allowing the vast majority of the heat just race up the chimney like a standard open fire....🙄

    Add a drescher external combustion air pipe and you're going to get a lot more efficiency

    Heat rises so if you put the pipes going in at the bottom and you have them coming out the top it’ll generate a flow of heat without a motor.

      It's actually 3 1/2" steel pipe. I wish you had elaborated on why you wouldn't use bigger pipe. But thank you for the idea. I'm going to build one.

    • @ironsharpens5677
      @ironsharpens5677 Рік тому

      You would need a strong enough "blower" source to push through a larger pipe. And I would not use a hair dryer.

      Do not use ductwork it is to thin. You would need electricity to run the blower.

      I feel like this would ruin the fire place a little bit. I mean the sounds from fireplace are satisfying and nice but the blower is not what i really want to hear when at home. Interesting concept tho I agree.

    • @johnpop5066
      @johnpop5066 2 роки тому

      @@estonsman4566 problem with fireplace is it's not efficient at all in terms of wood utilization or even heat. They are nice but only provide a minimum heat, air and heat go right up the chimney. This is why inserts and stand alone stoves are added to fireplaces in the first place. But you are correct in that even a decent insert put into a fireplace needs a blower and as you said, they make noise. A formal blower on an insert isn't as loud as putting some sort of DIY blower such as this example. My preference is a stand alone added to a fireplace, the issue with that is code, you need to build out the bottom stonework etc. to achieve full 16 or more inches needed to cover any coals hitting floors. I think it's worth it to install additional tiles on the floor to expand the front and put a stand alone right in there, with that for light fires and open flame you can use a screen and leave the doors open.

      @@hopester0217if you made it with small baffles to hold heat while air comes thru, would be a better design. Basically getting a pipe hot then running a plastic blower thru it. Not a great design
